Summary: Disappointing
Review: In this review I will discuss this movie's good and bad points. First, some of the new characters like Sakura, Rose, and Birdie were in the movie briefly but in a meaningful way. Secondly, the dubbing was very good. The scenes with Sakura in them were very cute and humorous, even Ryu's alleged brother Shun had some adorable moments.Now on to the bad points, the back of the movie box claims that this movie is a sequel to the Street Fighter II V series, however this is not the case. In fact Chun-Li is reintroduced to Ryu and Ken (yawn). This movie has character designs by Yoshihiko Umakoshi the result is that the characters look the way that they do in the Street Fighter Alpha games which in my opinion isn't nearly as good as the character designs in the Street Fighter II movie or the SF II V series. The fact that this is a Street Fighter movie I expected the fight scenes to be equal to or better than the fight scenes in the previous SF movie or television series, but unfortunately the fight scenes aren't that great. Also, I was a little upset that some of the Alpha characters that were in the movie like Guy, Sodom, Rolento, Adon, Vega, Dhalism, and Dan, had roles that were short-lived and corny. The story wasn't fully realized by the writer's in my opinion, because it had the potential for being so much more than a story fit for a Saturday morning cartoon show. The characters were also in many cases repeating the same tired lines over and over again which was very annoying.

Summary: The Way It Should Be!
Review: First and foremost, I love the Street Fighter series, ever since Street Fighter II: World Warrior was made available on Nintendo, ahhh memories.
The thing that set Street Fighter apart from anything else were the strength of the characters, diverse yet loveable over time. All had very interesting histories that had led them to this point, (hence the creation of the current Udon comics).
I have to say i love this movie. This film is the way it should be. I'm such a sucker for films which combine an element of destiny and spiritual self discovery.
I think i'm definitely a minority when i say that this animation is better than the animated effort before it, Street Fighter - The Animated Movie. That film had good combat sequences but failed miserably in delivering a story, i mean come on it was so cheesy, it hurt. And the voice acting... OH MY GOD, that was sooo bad!
Anyway, that is in the past and now we have Street Fighter Alpha, it's just soo perfect, adopting a very compelling story, although i do believe it loses its way towards the end.
The writers have done great job with the script, whereby the characters convey themselves the way should be, along with the voice acting which is also perfect. It really is, the script and voice acting make the characters likeable (i particularly like the way Ken was intepreted), we can really understand their positions. Unlike the previous film which made the characters appear arrogant and stupid, it made me hate the characters more than anything.
Also the animation is very nice, with very "arty" moments such as Ryu's blood washing away in the rain, these moments really add to the film as whole.
Sorry i know i'm long winded, but the ending is also worth noting, i don't think many people like it, but i always like an ending with some question attached and climax. All in all, a great film
This coming from a loyal and huge Street Fighter fan.

Summary: A STORY BEYOND THE AVERAGE STREET FIGHTER STORY LINE
Review: PERHAPS ONE OF THE BEST STREET FIGHTER STORYS OF ALL TIME. THE MOVIE DOESN'T ONLY SHOW YOUR FAVORITE ALPHA FIGHTERS, BUT ALSO TAKES A DEEPER LOOK IN THE STREET FIGHTER WORLD. AS RYU TRIES TO OVERCOME THE DARKNESS WITHIN HIM, HE MUST ALSO FIND OUT WHO HE REALLY IS AS WELL AS FINDING THE TRUTH BEHIND A "LONG LOST BROTHER". IT'S REALLY EMOTIONAL AND HAS A SOILD STORY TO GO WITH IT. IF YOU LIKE THE STREET FIGHTER MOVIES AND INTO DEEP STORY LINES, THEN DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GET THIS UNBELIEVABLE STREET FIGHTER MOIVE.

Summary: surprisingly PHILOSOPHICAL for a Street Fighter movie
Review: 3 stars = somewhere in between "BIRDIE doo doo" and "DANtastic!" The weak points of this anime have been repeatedly exposed by the previous reviews, so I won't get into that. But I'm compelled to write a review because people seem to be missing the one thing I thought was interesting about this SF anime: why does one fight? When I got this, I expected a weak plot thinly diguising a series of non-stop fight scenes (essentially, another SF II animated movie). Oh how I was wrong. The fact that it wasn't what I expected was disappointing but also refreshing. In fact, it was downright intriguing. SO HERE'S THE DEAL: SF fan or not, you'll DEFINATELY be frustrated with the plot, character development, resolution, and/or fight scenes. It's either too weak, too underdeveloped, too slow, or too subdued. BUT!!! If you don't mind thinking a little when you watch a film (i.e. if you're not simply looking for a mindless viewing experience), Street Fighter Alpha will bring up themes and questions you never thought to ask. Why does Ryu fight? Chun Li ponders this question. So does Sakura. As does Ryu himself. "One possessed of an evil spirit
will fight out of pride until his dying day,
and most likely to kill...
...just like Akuma who took up the Dark Hadou
and whose hands are now dark with the blood of his own master..." A street fighter's life is all about fighting. But for what purpose? It is the old age question of identity, of the meaning of life (hey, street fighters are humans too!). Ryu must find an answer to this question, not only for HIS sake (or rather, the sake of his soul), but also for the sake of those who look up to him (Ken, Chun Li, and especially Sakura). It was an audacious move on the part of the filmmakers' to instill such a reflective tone into a SF anime. I can say that as an aspiring screenwriter the intent was honorable, but the execution was lacking. As for the DVD itself, the video quality is excellent while the audio is only stereo for the Japanese language track (as opposed to the 5.1 DD for the English language track). The "MAKING OF" is pretty weak (it's basically a music-only montage of the filmmakers talking, drawing, writing, etc), but understandably so since it'd be impractical to have a real documentary. Finally, the "INTERVIEWS" are a bit disheartening, mainly because seeing the voice actors talk about their dubbing experiences breaks the illusion of the world of Street Fighter. Moreover, they're a bit bland. So I advise those of you who haven't already seen them to refrain from doing so. That's about it. As everyone else has already suggested, RENT FIRST.

Summary: Good dvd, BAD movie
Review: Very dissapointed with how this movie turned out. I don't where the script writers came out with younger brother angle , but it doesn't work. Rule One : Don't rewrite histories of established , tried-and-true ,bread -and-butter characters , geez! Some scenes are very reminiscient of Akira and Dragonball Z , only very hacknyed and lame. Too much groaning and powering for SF in my opinion. The whole movie kinda floats around with barely any screentime for all those new Alpha fighters. The movie SHOULD have been based around a tournament , with nice, lengthy fights..only nauseating or incredibly short fights here.
And the character designs are ugly and very strange..I loved the art in Street Fighter II V...how can they drop the ball on a feature film?!
On to the DVD, video and sound quality are excellent , and I was pleased by the extras (interviews with the REAL cast for once). And the requisite trailers..if you are SF fanatic or completist , then go ahead pick it up. Otherwise , look elsewhere.

Summary: great Anime
Review: This anime has some very nice backgrounds and such - the water training scene in particular has a zen peacefullness to it. The animation during the fight sequences is generally done very well and there are a few moments that are awesome. The drawing style is unique and I really liked it. The story is pretty weak - typical street fighter "with great power comes great responsibility" I guess. Some of the fight scenes are really spectacular - though I found myself waiting a bit too long for them sometimes. I understand that the whole movie cant be fighting, but when you name a movie Street Fighter I just wanted a little more. All in all I would say this is easily as good as every other street fighter movie made and I appreciate the inclusion of Akuma, though it would be nice to see Guile and Dhalsim play larger roles. Down, Down-Forward, Forward+Punch.
As far as the extra features go, I dont know, I never watch that crap. If you are really looking for an awesome anime, this is definately one of them, but if you havent seen Ninja Scroll or Vampire Hunter Bloodlust then I would say get those first.

Summary: NO AKUMA?!?!?!?!?!?
Review: Having seen SF: The Animated Movie and the trailer for SF: Alpha, I was expecting a lot from this movie. Alpha, sadly has more negatives than positives. The animation was great in some areas of the movie and horrible in others, the last fight scene for example. After watching the beautifully choreographed fight scenes from SF: The Animated Movie, Alpha's fight scenes look like they were produced from my 10 year old sister and not from an experienced martial artist. The animation wasn't consistant either, it would be great....then drop to [bad]....great....[bad]....you get the idea. The music and voice dubbing were done very well and surprisingly, the english voice over is better than the original Japanese version. The story was okay at first....Ryu trying to overcome the dark side of himself.....but went off the deep end when the biologist science freak was introduced as the main villian....and not AKUMA?!?! That's the worst part of the movie!!! I was looking forward to seeing Ryu battle Akuma....but that never takes place unless you count that teaser scene between Akuma and Ryu at the end of the credits.....seems more like it was just a marketing jig to lure people into buying this movie....another draw back to Alpha was the lack of characters, you see Vega, Zangeif, and some other Alpha characters for only a short while....they're all just cameo appearences.....sad...my recomadation is to buy SF: The Animated Movie, if you haven't already bought it.....and I'd only rent Alpha, if you haven't seen it before....even though Alpha was a let down, Manga seems to be working on a second Alpha movie(check out their website, it has a picture of Sakura and Akuma on their homepage)...I still am Street Fighter fan, so I can't wait to see the next Alpha movie....hopefully it will have Akuma fighting his time around or better yet, Akuma fighting Bison...

Summary: Not as cool as SF2 but cool nonetheless.
Review: Even though I am a bigger fan of the FATAL FURY franchise than I am of Street Fighter I still recommend this to anime and video game fans. The quality of animation in this entry is quite stunning. A lot of time and care has been put into making this look like a work of art and some scenes and shots are definitely way past cool. The sound design is also more sophisticated than most other anime video releases. Stereo seperation and ambience comes through with clarity and more authority than you would imagine. The DVD sound great in 5.1. The story is stonger than I expected but still not up to the standards of SF2. The bad guy just isn't nasty enough or threatening. And the movie kind of suffers as a result. M Bison is barely glimpsed and he looks kind of different. Gile is completly absent. Vega is gone too. I wouldn't really say that this entry takes place in the same universe as SF2, which is a shame because it was so much better than the live action movie. Ken and Ryu's friendship is mostly the same, tho that is where any similarity ends. But there is a whole animated series to back SF Alpha up, so if you dig it...there's much more.

Summary: SFA? Not Really! Key word Alpha
Review: This movie was flawed in many ways. First off, it's not a sequel to SFV, but that's a good thing. SFV is different from The SF series, so a sequel to SFV should have a different title. The problem that arises is that the makers didn't know what to do and I feel they rushed this. SFA should be about what went on after Ryu defeated Sagat and before the next tournament. This movie should have been a prequel to SF: The Movie. If it was marketed that way and actually was that way, people would have flocked to it. But what we have is 80 minutes of confusion and an annoying little brother. There is little mention that Ryu defeated Sagat. There was no Sagat trying to reclaim his crown(like the game) and, while dealing with the Dark Hadou, only little annoying teaser visions of Akuma. The premise of this story is simple: make it in between SF1 and SF2 and have Akuma and the Dark Hadou play a big part in it. (If I wrote my version here someone reading this would rip me off) but anyway the makers of this movie should have known what they were doing before they started this. I'm sure one of us fans could have wrote this movie better.

Summary: Street Fighter Alpha: Definately No SF2!
Review: After seeing street fighter 2 the animated movie, and being entirely engrossed by an interesting and well thought out storyline, executed with the same axcellence, I had very high expectations of Alpha. The one big thing I wished for was contunity...after realising there was none after 10 minutes or so I hoped for at least a good storyline. To be honest the storyline is very very bland, and you wouldnt expect something so cheesy in a feature film of the Street Fighter Calibre. The animation is marvelous, but I definately prefer the "rugged" animation of SF2:Animated Movie...after not getting a good storyline, or continuity with SF2 (or even to an extent the SF series...e.g a MADE up "baddie" and some dissapointingly uninvolved appearances by the likes of Vega, Adon, Birdie etc...) I finally hoped that I would get a glimpse of Chun-Li in the flesh...It didnt happen... :-P
