Summary: Atlantis Is Not All Washed Up.
Review: As I'm sure many of you have heard, Disney's new film Atlantis is receiving some really negative reviews. I, for one, don't think the film deserves such panning. Yes, the animation is more like Disney films of the past (101 Dalmatians or Lady and the Tramp, for example,) but that's what's nice about the film. Most of the visual images in the film are undetailed, old fashioned, and unrealistic, but that's what makes it so impactful when computer animation is used in key sequences where emotional impact must be made. The viewer doesn't take the computer effects for granted seeing that he or she hasn't been bombarded with them throughout the entire film. I think this is smart movie-making, and it worked for me. Besides all of this, the film still looks pretty good! As far as the plot goes, the film is very complex and multi-layered...not your average animated film. The editing is very quick-paced, and many small children will no doubt be lost in the shuffle. It's obvious that Disney is changing with the new wave of adult animation, and Atlantis is a product of this change. The film is deeper than I expected...you won't find any of the standard sing-songy moments in this one. The characters are richly defined, more human not in their images, but in their depth, and that makes for an engrossing experience. Atlantis is, in essence, an homage to animation of the past...a film for those of us who grew up on such great classics as The Fox and the Hound and Lady and the Tramp. We are the ones who will appreciate what the animators have done here, and will come away happy that we decided to take the journey. I know I was.

Summary: Pretty good movie for Disney
Review: While it still doesn't hold up to anime, Disney pulled out a good story this time with Atlantis. The animation wasn't that great, it was just inline with what you may expect from Disney, although there are a few scenes that are pretty good.Most amazing thing: never did they break out in song and dance! That deserves a star just on it's own. ^_^

Summary: My favorite disney movie
Review: I will be honest with you, I havent gone to see a disney movie in theaters since the little mermaid but I went to see this one and I am really glad I did. Unlike past disney movies it is not a musical. It does have subtitles as mentioned becuase some times the "Atlantians" speak "their language" (Atlantian... Atlantic... what ever) But I only remember them being used like twice for one or two sentances and it isnt a huge deal if your child cant read them, they should still get the plot line(We brought a 6 year old and 2 five year olds and they understood and liked the whole thing even though we never read them the subtitles). I would say this is best suited to 8 or so year olds (boys would most likly enjoy it more than girls) but my friends and I (16 to 17 year olds) enjoyed it and I plan to buy it when it comes out on DVD. If you like animated films or anime I would see it some time. Maybe not in theaters but rent it or something.Its worth it.

Summary: Great melding of past and present animation styles
Review: With so much hype being bestowed on box office champ "Shrek," I, for one, was elated to see a film that craftily blended traditional animation with the computer-generated effects of contemporary filmmaking. "Atlantis" is a welcome return to the adventure that Disney did so well in past classics as "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," "Swiss Family Robinson," and, to a lesser extent "In Search of the Castaways." The visuals are strikingly intricate with much detail to the backgrounds. The appearance of the "leviathan" during the first reel is expertly done and the resulting battle is awesome. Atlantis's beauty is overwhelming with the Disney artisans sparing no expense in the imagination department. Disney's use of vocal talent is, as always, exemplary with Michael J. Fox, James Garner (in an uncharacteristically "heavy" role), and Leonard Nimoy effectively bringing their respective two-dimensional counterparts to three-dimensional "life." Singer/actress Cree Summer is outstanding as the Atlantean princess "Kida," while Don Novello shines as "Vincenzo Santorini." Florence Stanley (late of "Dinosaurs") is a scene-stealer in her role as Mrs. Packard, the communications "officer" with a passion for gossip and cigarettes. From the first time that her very recognizable voice is heard, the audience is in for a treat. The movie should appeal to all ages and should stand the test as a perfect beginning for Disney's entry into the new millennium.

Summary: Atlantis is a movie you'll never forget!
Review: Although it went pretty fast in the beginning, it's easy to remember and fun to watch. Who could ask for more? Even though younger kids may not understand the whole crystal/life source thing, well I have news for you: IT'S NOT FOR LITTLE KIDS! Although it is appropriate with the acceptions of dying, the film is rated PG. It's an excellent movie with funny characters and serious ones, a hot Kidagakash (Kida), and after seeing this movie twice, a great concept with a great twist. (You know...) One of Disney's no-talking-animals-or-songs films. Like before, children should not see it if they are 5-. They will not understand and will not like it. Aimed for a little maturer audiences (8+). I'm 11, and I loved it!

Summary: "Naa, let's just make this look like it's for children"
Review: Much like the ill-fated TRON, this Disney spectacle fails to hit the mark. The story begins with a momentum and excitement that feels like the Indiana Jones movies, and one wishes it might have been live-action instead of animation. As the story quickly begins to lose all sense of logic and time and place, it becomes populated with a band of disjointed (even in their animated style) characters. They are intermittently funny, but as the adventure wears on, the story reveals an Atlantis, and its many strange secrets, as a bizarre, unlikable place. The over-the-top crystal concept is so strangely remote and undecipherable I can hardly imagine a 7-year old comprehending what the heck is going on. And the inconsistencies in the story are rampant.

Summary: SOOO Disappointing
Review: C'mon Disney, why do we have to do the GUN thing so much. We used to be able to rely on the storytelling magic of Disney, this looks cheap and I hate the level of violence. No longer is every Disney movie an automatic "Must see". Where is the magic of "The Lion King" or "Beauty and the Beast". Too bad the magic is over for Disney movies. Looks like a Pokemon video.

Summary: Not just another Disney's
Review: To see Atlantis without comparing it from another Disney's animation feature is an almost impossible thing to do. Right from the start when the first time I heard about Atlantis, I was already prepared that I will see dances with silly songs, with its too-cute animals as the hero/heroine's companion. But hey, when I made it to the cinema, I see none of those. In fact, I see movies that is more comical, and more imaginative than most Disney animation feature I've seen. F The film starts with a big wave, and Atlanteans trying to survive the disaster. In a matter of minute, the great city of Atlantis sunk into the bottom of the sea. Then we meet Milo Thatch, a linguist whose dreams of finding the legendary city of Altantis. Then, the story unfolds at a brisk pace, and Milo joins the journey to find Atlantis. He eventually finds it, but what happens next? I guess you have to see it if you want to know. The thing is: I was not amazed by the graphic quality. But the storytelling style is fresh, and yet, it is unusual to Disney's long reputation of being a maker of musical animation feature. The visual effects is amazing, altough not as great as those in Titan A.E. I think, despite of some rumor that Atlantis is not good for anime, it is still worth a peek, and whether you love anime or not, I think you might love this one.

Summary: A different type of Disney
Review: I loved this movie. The voices and dialog were wonderful. I'm one of those people who wait until the end of the movie to see who played the characters. Dr. Sweet, played by Phil Morris, plays a strong, wonderful African American. Milo, a clumsy academic, is voiced by Michael J. Fox. The eccentric billionaire is played by John Mahoney, the dad on Frasier. The cast is rainbow Disney, with a Hispanic girl a la Rosie Perez as a mechanic, an African American doctor, a French geologist named Moliere. James Garner plays the villainous general, which he must have enjoyed a great deal going against his "type". Young children will probably have difficulty following the plot, but the visuals will keep their attention. This is the first Disney film with no songs and, quite frankly, you don't miss the musical numbers at all. The pacing is excellent. There are a couple of plot twists to hold your attention. The animation is Disney excellent. I could easily see an "Atlantis" ride coming soon to Disney's park. A nice way to spend a rainy afternoon.

Summary: Atlantis? No! IT's Nadia-Laputa-Stargate ...
Review: It's disapointing that after the Lion King scandle for coping The "Emperor's Forest", Disney has done that again! This time it's back for more ... action! This movie is not only unoriginal, which Disney is famouse for, but this time even shamelessly taken things stragiht out of other films. The characters came straight out of Gainax's "Secrete of Blue Water - Nadia". You can see a rundown of character comparisons here .... Then here is the dialogue which came straight out of Star Gate! The First time Atlantians showed up is copied from Princess Mononoke. And finally, the giant robots, the ruin, the areo combat scenes are just a Laputa's .... Come on Dinsey! I don't mind if things are "inspired from other movie" because if it weren't for these problems Atlantis is not too bad. There are so many talented people in your company, tweak the story around or something, but don't give me a straight copy! Very disapointed... Kids, please don't do this at home. What Disney did was bad. Lets hope Disney can start to straighten up and do something original, or like Pixar.
