Summary: a differing opinion
Review: I was hot with anticipation when i first saw this movie. I'd heard great things about it, and even saw Siskel and Ebert give it 2 thumbs up. An anime that could capture the imaginations of even the snootiest of movie reviewers would HAVE to be great, right? Not necessarily. The animation and CG compositing are exceptional, in strong competition with Disney's latest, Tarzan, in the eye candy department. The original Japanese voices made you feel something that you simply won't get with animes dubbed into English. Towards the end when Batuo screamed out, "Motoko!!!" and her response was hollow and weak. You never get those feelings portrayed by the American voice actors. The story wasn't all that gripping to me. I was confused at many points and just when I thought I understood something else would come up to confuse me again. I finally got it after watching a few more times. I suppose my only qualms were with the story which I felt was a bit weak at times. It has a Blade Runner-esque feel to it, but I never was too hot for that movie either. I'd recommend this movie on DVD for the great visuals and sound and to compare the original Japanese dialog to the English dubbed. But to get a good deep story, watch Wings of Honneamise.

Summary: Ghost are always found in shells
Review: This movie is one of the best anime movies i have ever seen. It's even better than Sailor Moon (most movies are). It's crazy story line will keep you hooked. Speaking of anime i can't wait for Princess Kononoke to be out in theaters.

Summary: truly amazing
Review: this was the greatest of all japanese anime films I've ever seen, me being an anime addicty, the blending of computer animation and that of anime was superb. The story was magnificant, and I was able to follow it from the begging. A must see for every anime fan

Summary: list movie
Review: Motoko says: My all time favorite movie. The creation of a new life form is the plot of this masterpiece. It has stunning graphics and a plot line that is so complex it is a litmus test for your own intelligence. The one liners are a gllimpse of brilliance ("All things change in a dynamic enviroment") and the dialog lacks the cheesiness usually associated with Anime, especially those dubbed in English. This movie was a religious expeience for me. A, P.

Summary: Pretty Good, not the best however...
Review: After I saw this movie, I thought that the plot was deep and the animation was awesome. A little hard to understand at first (you may have to watch it 3 or so times to fully understand it). The story is pretty good, but Ive seen better anime, plus the movie drags on and on. Although, I have to admit that the KMFDM song in the beginning rocks (playing when previews of other movies are showing.)

Summary: Do you have a Ghost in your shell?
Review: Finally, the comic has been made into a video! I managed to get a hold of the laser disc (English-dubbed on the digital channel, original Japanese dialog on the analog channel) and it is letterboxed. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the video remained true to the comic, albeit with a little creative freedom in terms of plot chronology of minor details. This is a tale of the future. In the year 2039, ghost-hacks and thermoptics (you'll find out what those are once you watch the video) are commonplace. Major Motoko Kusanagi must find out who the Puppet Master is and what he wants. Bateau, Kusanagi's colleague, does what he can to help her out. Not to say that he's her flunkie; they are partners working for the Security Division, Section 9. CG images and hand-drawn cel animation come together in this riveting, highly-charged powder keg of Anime. The plot is staggeringly more complex than that of American animation by any means. If you take a break in the middle of the video, you may as well go back to the beginning and start all over because the plot's details will evade the casual observer. You cannot watch this video as casually as you would watch an American movie; it is impossible. If you thought "The Hunt For Red October" and "Seven" were mind-bogglers, don't even bother watching "Ghost In The Shell" because it takes most people I know more than one viewing to fully comprehend it. I found that having read the comic helps to understand the video. It's a story that makes you really think, and its moral is really something to think about.

Summary: Not for the no-brainers
Review: Awesome animation, as well as a great plot, Ghost in the Shell is not for people who prefer less talk and more action. The action sences themselves are increadable, but they arent too frequent. If you dont really get the plot after watching it 2 or 3 times, its youa and not the move, so dont complain about it, go watch something that fits your mental capacity (like pokemon).

Summary: kick ass movie
Review: If you're looking for an anime that has action, drama, sci-fi, and extraordinary animation see Ghost in the Shell. Also if you have seen the Matrix and liked it, well the scene from the building where the pillars are just getting trashed by bullets was based on this movie. The story plot for this movie just KICKS ASS. This is one of the anime movies that I've seen that doesn't actually base its roots on extreme violence or naked breasts bouncing up and down.
