Summary: Excellent DVD
Review: I have this movie on VHS and the audio CD. The sound effects, music and animation of this DVD are excellent. No other DVD that I've played so far has the dymanic range of this one.

The best produced DVD I've seen to date.

Summary: Great animation, story lacking
Review: The animation is great, some of the best I've ever seen. Fluent movement. The plot, however, came together towards the end and in the beginning was not understandable. The anime was a dissapointment compared to the manga by my favorite artist Masamune Shirow. I suggest the manga. I don't see where the anime ties in.

Summary: OOOOO yes.
Review: This was my first anime ever, and it was the movie that turned me on to the whole genre. The only problem is that the movie is a tad slow and I feel more could be done with the plot, but the philisophical (spelling) ideas brought up in the movie are facinating, the animation is beautiful and extremely detailed, and the voice acting is terefic... well, at least in the subbed version. It's terrible in the dubbed version. Also, I really wish more of a soundtrack is used... when it is used, it evokes a wonderfully eerie feeling (check out the minimalistic music during the scene where the puppet is getting beaten by the Major in the water... I love that scene 'cause the music makes it so surrealistic). But despite a few _minor_ shortcomings, this is still a fantastic film and it only improves upon repeated viewings. O, and I'm gonna smack the next person who compares this to Blade Runner. I mean, WTF? The plot simalarites are nonexistant! Whatever. Just be sure to go the extra mile and get the subbed version.

Summary: Ghost in the Shell - Flash over Substance
Review: I would like to give this film 2 1/2 Stars, but it won't let me. I think this film is gorgeous, it is beautifully animated and backed up by a rich score. Sadly, the storyline did not live up to its surroundings. It is populated by cold and uninteresting characters. The story brings nothing new to a vast series of other anime titles with the same theme. I certainly think it is worth watching, but certainly far from the best in anime.

Summary: It's a prototype of matrix
Review: it's greatest sci-fi plot.it's for hardcore sci-fi and manga fans. you must have knowledge in computer network, Artifical Intelegent and a lot of Buddhism to understand all story-plot. It is a century that human ws defeat in business and social by inteligent and strategy not by war like matrix. if you seen some scene u will know that matrix is copy from this story (exp. a hunt in china market) , same plot(the world AI won) and etc.,( have connector at neck to upload data or connect with another)

Summary: great animation movie - poetic sci-fi
Review: The original manga from Masamune Shiro was somewhat a great experience. But instead of just trying to render the manga to the screen, Mamoru Oshi (patlabor 1&2, Jinro...) created a real piece of art! Both the design, story, rythm, animation, drawing and music are absolutly astounding! This is not just a sci-fi movie. It avoids all the "clichés" and is more poetic than violent. If I had to keep only one movie, this will be the one.

Summary: Its great, and its not!
Review: Ive seen the premier Anime's, Macross Plus, Oh My Goddess, and this is the only one I didnt like. WHy? There is so much emphasis on plot that is so incredibly confusing and complex, I couldnt figure the movie out completely after seeing it 2 times. Art was supremely good, the absolute best, but try to ignore the plot if you wish to enjoy.

Summary: Truly a deep anime...
Review: "Ghost in the Shell" is a movie which should be seen many times over to grasp its full content and hidden implications. It also has incredible animation and action scenes, but it is the complexity of the plot and the masterful incorporation of metaphor and symbolism (very rarely successful in movies) which truly make it a work of art. For anyone who writes it off, dig a little deeper...

Summary: Don't waste your time and money- see the Matrix instead
Review: This was a poor movie, not even saved by two, or should I say one and a half action scenes- one where the major fights an Uzi toting baddie and the end fight, with a bug-like tank. The music and environment shots were too long and horrible- as boring as Blade Runner. There are a lot of incomprehensible technotalk scenes AND lots of philosophical psycho-babble scenes. Plus, the animation is UGLY. The major looks ugly, the men look poor, and there's a lot of black. While I didn't LOVE the MAtrix, it too was confusing, it made alot more sense than Ghost in the Shell.

Summary: DEFINITLY THE BEST ANIME...YET
Review: Ok, let's make it short. The movie is very good, but not excellent. The animation is outstanding and imcredibly realistic, the atmosphere well rendered, the music very addictive, and the speechs far from dumb. However, the biggest asset, the story, has been too simplified compared to the manga. I found the animation and the cinematic style to be the most interesting aspects of this movie. If you are looking for a philosophical movie, this is not the one. Read the manga instead, it's as great.
