Princess Mononoke

Summary: Epic, Darker, Wonderful Studio Ghibli Masterpiece
Review: One of the darkest and most intense Studio Ghibli masterpieces, "Princess Mononoke" is every bit as vast and grand as "Lord Of The Rings" and "Star Wars" and rivals fellow Ghibli fare like "Castle In the Sky" and "Spirited Away" in memorabilty and array of character (both human and nonhuman), creature and concept. The film's character cast is headed by Mononoke, a wolf-raised girl involved in the resistance of animals and nature against the ever-encroaching and ever-dominating human civilization, and Ashitaka, afflicted with a life-draining malady and on a quest deep into the remaining forest to find the elusive cure. Being a Miyazaki-directed feature, "Princess Mononoke" still manages to easily blend in large amounts of beauty, cuteness and charm into the darkly serious and often violent story of conflict. The struggle between relentless human industrialization & expansion and the vanishing natural world is a common theme in many Ghibli movies, but seldom presented in such a warlike and apocalyptic fashion. Interestingly, it does this without demonizing the encroaching human factions. As in our world, in this admittedly less technologically advanced world, the enivirornmental decimation isn't always caused by a burning malicious desire to eradicate our planetmates, but out of - what? Arrogance? Honest ignorance? Unconscious apathy? A defeatist attitude that it's all going to be plowed over anyway so why bother trying to delay the inevitable? Unfortunately, it's the other 99.999% of species that have to suffer the bulk of the consequences. In "Princess Mononoke", the 99.999% are in the early stages of not taking things lying down anymore, and are being aided by some very powerful entities, and the result is one of cinema's greatest epics, aided by impeccable animation and great voice acting flawlessly synchronized into the movie. Complete in itself but still feels unfinished - "Princess Mononoke" is one of the great originals of all time, and now all we can do is treasure it while we wait and hope for a "Princess Mononoke II" to come and be one of the great sequels of all time.

Summary: Animated Perfection
Review: This work of art is incredible. The characters, emotion, action, music... it's all there! This is seriously a movie that will impact you in ways that will stay with you forever - it's a story that we can all relate too. I would definately reccomend this movie to anyone from children and preteens to the most sophisticated intellectual. Emotion surges through these characters with such sincerety that you can do nothing but feel for them. At times you love humanity for the endless strength and neverending determination, and minutes later you will wallow in the imperfections of humans, and how some conflicts have no easy or simple resolution for everyone.
The theme of human industrialization and technological advances vs. the preservation of nature and all things natural amkes for a thrilling movie that intrigues and satisfies audiences with any reasonable expectations. Forest gods and Kodamas make this story even more magical. This movie portrays a valiant human struggle and will have you pulsating with a wide spectrum of emotion. This movie is feeling. There is so much honor and respect in this movie... give it a watch!

oh yeah whoever reccomended the emperor's new groove instead of this movie must not understand that this is a movie that is holy. Disney is so childish and immature. YOU CANNOT COMPARE ANIME TO DISNEY MOVIES THEY ARE DIFFERENT THINGS. Disney is mediocrely enjoyable on its on level, but is not anime. It is sooo white, and unrealistic and NOT HOLY. Princess Mon. is sacred and has the foreign aura about it that demands and gives respect. Disney movies have pathetic slang and feeble jokes that, along with some of the most obnoxious songs ever (i love little mermaid and beauty and the beast but the emperors new groove is out of control), force me to disreguard disney as quality animation.
To further support my beliefs of Disney's are the numerous lecherous scenes the perverted artists draw. You have to fight fire with fire to find these scenes, they're not obvious, but with careful inspection you can see that the friendly nature of disney is just a ploy so that the real lascivious messages can be expressed. In the Lion King they wrote the word SEX (in capitals) in the sky out of the dust that Simba creates when he collapses to the ground (when he is considering taking the crown), and in Aladdin at the balcony scene when the Tiger jumps on Aladdin (if you turn the volume up) you can hear Aladin say "Take off my pants", and in The Little Mermaid during the wedding of Irsella and Eric, you can clearly see that the priest wedding them has a gigantic erection that moves.
In conclusion, buy princess mononoke and sell all those perverted disney movies.
