Summary: anime at its best
Review: this one shines and its grandstandly animated. one of my favorites in anime movies. a young man(BIlly Crudup) is stricken by a boar god and he has to go on a journey. soon he comes between a war brewing between the animal gods(featuring voices of Keith David and Gillian Anderdson) and a greedy lady(viciously voiced by Minnie Driver) and he falls in love with Princess Mononoke(played great by Claire Danes voice),a girl who is housed by the wolfs and theres also a greedy fat man(Billy Bob Thornton) in the mix, the lady and the fat man want the head of the forest spirit but if they do so they will create chaos and everything will be distroyed. some great moments include the cutting off of the forest spirits head, the showing of Iron Town and the cute white forest spirit spirits whose heads turn and click(funny). other voices contributed are Jada Pinkett Smith and John DiMaggio(who voices Bender on TV's Futurama).

Summary: Excellent Miyazaki fairy tale
Review: Okay, before you get this movie (and you should!), it's definitely NOT for children because it's excessively violent at some points. Make them watch My Neighbor Totoro instead, another of Miyazaki's great films.*SPOILERS BELOW, BUT JUST BUY THE MOVIE!*
That said, this is an enchanting, riveting tale about a boy who has to overcome the demonic disease festering in his hand after a battle with a giant boar that could potentially kill him if he doesn't hurry. Surprisingly, it grants him incredible killing strength (there's one scene where he beheads a man just by shooting an arrow at him). He meets San, a girl raised by wolves, who tries to protect the forest from the evil Lady Eboshi. War erupts between the humans and the boar tribe, but Miyazaki demonstrates that the overwhelming power of nature is superior to that of collective human strength, and both sides find closure after they restore everything back to its proper place.

Summary: Miyazaki outshines Disney
Review: I used to think that Disney put out truly great animation that touches the souls of those who watch it, that is until I watched this film. Disney has done at least one good thing in the last few years, which is to bring Mononoke and other Miyazaki movies to America. I applaud them for it, even if they don't always appreciate the masterpieces that they are selling. Princess Mononoke is an anime movie, but in many ways it is beyond anime. Although it is steeped in Japanese history and mythology, this is a film that has meaning for people of every culture, dealing with universal themes such as ecological preservation and the often self-destructive ways of human nature. It even comments on the relationship between men and women. All are subjects that American movies have tried to contemplate before but not with nearly as much intelligence or respect for the audience. There are no real villians here, creeping around with their evil intentions; not once does the audience feel that they are being preached to about Right and Wrong. Mikyazaki simply presents characters who are doing the best they can in a bad situation, as all people do in real life. Granted, in real life, raging Forest Gods aren't trying to kill you. But suspension of disbelief is easy to acheive when you have a meaningful story line and characters that people can actually care about. The animation is simple compared to Spirited Away, but is just as beautiful and fits well with the starker atmosphere of the movie. A lot of it reminds me of old Japanese paintings. I'm glad to say that there was a minimum of computer animation used in this film and the whole movie has a rich hand drawn feel. The score by Joe Hisaishi is simply grand (I'll plug the soundtrack while I'm at it); since I've seen this movie I'm not only a Miyazaki fan, but also a devoted Hisaishi listener. It's a shame, then, that such a perfect movie would be given such a mediocre dubbing job. Disney did just what I expected they would do. . . they chose actors based on their names and not on how well they portrayed the characters. It's pretty obvious that those in charge had publicity in mind when they cast Billy Bob Thornton, of all people, as a Japanese monk. Claire Danes is too whiny and childish to play the dour San, and Billy Crudup is just dull in the lead role of Ashitaka. I will give credit to Minnie Driver, however, the only one among them who did as good a job as her Japanese counterpart. Driver is a dead ringer for the sophisticated and strong-willed Eboshi. Regardless, I suggest this movie not only to anime fans but to anyone who likes a good story and strong characters who don't adhere to Hollywood conventions. Take the time to read the subtitles. I should warn that there is some gore and violence, but it is used tastefully and in regards to the plot.

Review: There are no words that can describe how great Princess Mononoke is. Myazaki reall out did himself in this movie. This mobie is the best anime movie there is. It has action, drama, spirit, and adventure all in one. I can't totally describe how good it is but when it was over Impracticall died cause i wanted it to go on forever. It blew me away. It's just...Amazing.

Summary: an epic adventure!
Review: This is one of the best films I've ever seen. For those of you who like fantasy and adventure you will be glued to the screen for the duration. The action is non-stop and full of suprises. There are many compelling characters, the sound track is excellent and the story is top notch. The film opens when the last young warrior called Ashitaka of a village notices something unusual in the woods approaching his village. Some sort of mysterious beast makes himself known and begins to attack Ashitaka and begins chasing him. This is no ordinary beast, it appears to change form and consists of a bunch of worm-like creatures. Everything in its path is destroyed with ease. While Ashitaka tries to defend his village, he manages to shoot the beast with two arrows which eventually incapacitate it, but not without a cost. While Ashitaka was defending his village and attempting to keep the beast away, some of the worm-like creatures grab hold of his arm and cause him great pain leaving an unusual scar. Later, after consulting with the wise woman of the village, Ashitaka is informed that he has been cursed by an evil spirit and is in grave danger. There is however one chance of him curing himself. To cure himself, he must travel to a far away land and find the great benevolent spirit of the forest. On his journey to finding the great spirit, he faces many trials and tribulations, meets friend and foe but most of the people he meets are consumed with anger and hate which makes it all the more difficult and adds an element of complexity to the story. The film makes two very powerful points about man and his quest to dominate nature and about the consuming and destructive power of hate and anger. The destruction of nature can only lead to man's own destruction and anger merely fuels more anger and hate which if not stopped will completely consume the individual.

Review: i havent seen to many animes but i know that this one is GREAT! i think that every anime collecter should have this. probably my favorite anime. if u know anything about anime u will like this.

Summary: Close to the Pinnacle
Review: Mayazaki reached the pinnacle of his art in SPIRITED AWAY, but this film was the prophesy. This is not a film for apolitical people, nor is it a movie for those who prefer their films to be wrapped neatly and tucked thematically. The destruction of the earth is not a poetic vision, but a fact. Mayazake understands the fact of worldwide environmenal dissolution by the responsiblke manner in which he addresses the issue. This is his first truly beautiful film, one in which the landscape and characters possess immediacy and plausibility. The musical score is sensational and the voice-dubs work more effectively than I imagined. This is a movie about the destruction of the world -- viewed through the eyes of liberals and conservatives. The concludion of the film will haunt you and make you suspicious of partisan formulas for interpreting life-saving issues. Very fine and more than worth double its price.

Summary: Stand for natures!! Stands up for nature!!
Review: I love this movie!! I got as a birthday present and just love it!! Miyazaki is just so wonderful! all of his movies I have seen so far which is like 4 so far counting Mononoke!! Are awesome! Kiki was the first one I saw ^-^ its my favorite next to mononoke. Miyazaki's style is so unique, the characters are amazing they are so cool even the bad guys! the cool thing about mononoke is that there isn't a main bad guy which is nice change from disney movies. Plus all his movies have strong heriones and barely any romance, Mononoke, kiki, Laputa, and spirited away had no romance or no kissing. Thats the great thing about Miyazaki's films he doesn't belive that girls should be fed romance instead a sense of adventure,determination and strong ming . So moms get these films they show girls how to be strong and nice and to be themselves, . Laputa, spirited away are PG good lesson on friendships and being brave, Kiki is G but has a good lesson on growing up, Mononoke is good its lesson is to stand up for what you believe in and to live ,PG-13. That and the characters fight with their beliefs and determination rather weapons, mononoke and Laputa fight with weapons somewhat.
so why five stars because its a classic. plus nobody should miss out on these great flims.
