Summary: Miyuzaki once again blows me away!
Review: That was one awesome movie! It had such detail and meaning to it. I found it ironic that the guy who was turning into a demon was the only person who wanted to keep peace. It was beautiful, a little on the violent and bloody side though. GREAT movie! A MUST SEE!!!

Summary: So you enjoyed Spirited Away and thought you try this, too?
Review: This is a fabulous classic anime film from Hayao Miyazaki, and I recommend it highly. However, if you're new to Miyazaki and anime in general I would recommend caution and an open mind as well. Unlike most American animated films, anime is an adult genre and this film is not for children. It is very violent (pushing an R rating, in my opinion) with a complex plotline, mythical references, and much that the kids just won't understand. There isn't the nudity often found in other anime - the absence of which seems to be a Miyazaki trademark - so that's a plus, but if you're looking for something suitable for children I would recommend some other Miyazaki films instead. For the youngest, the English language versions of "My Neighbor Totoro" and "Kiki's Delivery Service" are adorable. For those who enjoyed "Spirited Away," I also highly recommend Miyazaki's adventure "Castle in the Sky."

Review: This one's ok. If you're used to hardcore manga that shows gore and nudity, don't even bother. However, the plot is pretty cool and it's definetly one you'll never want to stop watching. Also, the graphics are pretty cool.

Summary: Numbingly VIOLENT - NOT for children
Review: What was the filmmaker thinking? Have we become so desensitized that we would let our kids watch this? Have we become so desensitized that we ourselves would want to watch these 2 hours of carnage? The extreme violence in this movie, including graphic beheadings and every other manner of killing you can imagine, not to mention the slicing off of limbs, and about a hundred thousand gallons of blood, makes it very very very unsuitable for children. I don't know what it was rated but it deserved to be rated R, verging on NC-17. Unfortunately, the continual violence makes this film somewhat numbing and in a way, and ultimately dull, for adults. There is very little in this movie that is not a fight or battle or attack of some kind. I would recommend instead, SPIRITED AWAY, a vastly superior movie suitable for everyone by the same filmmaker, a movie that should be considered an instant classic of animation. Princess Mononoke, however, gets a thumbs down.

Summary: A Fine Adventure.
Review: With a completely un-Western mythology at its core, it is easy to understand the reluctance that most people have in embracing this otherwise great film. The story is intricate and interesting, the characters are all multi-dimensional, and the animation is amazing and original. I own this film and another from the same director, with equally stunning animation: "Spirited Away." This film, however, is more brutal and action-packed, bloodier and bolder in its concepts. While "Spirited Away" was superb in that it embraced all the possibilities of fanciful fantasy, this film has more adult themes and situations that are both interesting and overwhelming, layered with emotional depth and scathingly violent. I heartily recommend getting both films, because I think both are excellent, but for decidedly different reasons.

Summary: Another Great Miyazaki Film.
Review: The list of great Anime films made by Miyazaki is very long: Castle in the Sky, Warriors of the Wind, Spirited Away are a few that come to mind. This is the first really commercially successful Miyazaki film in the U.S.A. (He's a BIG DEAL in Japan), watch this film and you will know why. Detailed animations, use of colors and interesting story lines are all hallmarks of a good Miyazaki feature. This film is no exception. Disney is now distributing his films in America, there's no way they could make film like Princess Mononoke so the did the next best thing. If you are not an Anime fan like me, then Princess Mononoke is a good introduction to the genre. Anime fans, you already know that you should buy this film.

Summary: Impressive..
Review: This movie blew me away when I first saw it. The drawings (90% still drawn by hand and not with the help of a computer) are very realistic and the characters are not too Japanese-looking, which is kinda strange sometimes.
It is a fantasy story with Gods and Demons and sometimes reminded me a little of the Lord of the Rings, so if you like that kind of storylines and animation this movie is a must see, it's the most impressive Japanese animation I have ever seen.
Voices are done by Claire Danes, Billy Bob Thornton and Minnie Driver as a Queen wanting to kill the Forest Gods.
The most incredible creatures are little forest 'elves', small mushroomlike creatures with revolving heads and strange sounds. It is not for children! Heads and arms are shot of and it's very bloody at times, so keep your young children away. Even I was impressed by the graphic scenes.

Review: Miyazaki pulls another winner! Amazing animation, beautiful story, and capturing characters, all expected from Miyazaki. It truly shows the connection between humans and nature. A must-see.
