Summary: The war gets tougher
Review: After being in combat a bunch of times, the 08th Team comes under attack by the most powerful suit made since the Big Zam. The Obsolis. Piloted by Shiro's fate-brought-us-together love, Zeon pilot, Aina Sahalene. When the 08th Team is called into action, Sanders starts getting cold feet about the mission. Ever since he joined the Federation, hes had bad luck on the third mission of any assignment. Fortunetly, Shiro has confidence in him and they prevail while Aina escapes. In the next episode, Eledore and Michael are captured by the Zeons. However, they escape using the old punch-each-other-out method. However, after some extreme battles, Eledore ends up going to the hospital. In the last episode, Shiro and his squad are called out for a long term dessert mission. Since Michael has to run the hovertruck all by himself now, he starts having doubts about his own abilities. Fortunetly, Kiki arrives and starts taking a liking to Michael. Then the worst happens. The Obsolis shows up. THis time it means bussiness. Shiro goes in for a suicide move which ends the episode in a cliffhanger. Overall, a pretty cool tape with the killer debut of the Obsolis. More fun to come.

Summary: Everyone will make it back alive!!
Review: Another entry from the expansive Gundam Universe. 08th MS Team is yet another excellent twelve episode story line that draws on many of the themes expressed in the Gundam Universe but always keeps them seeming fresh and invigorating.

I was once told that by and English professor in college ( or at least the university that passed for a college that I went to) that " Plot is irrelevant. It doesn't matter what you write about.". On the contrary!! Plot is everything. And 08th MS Team proves that with the right story everything falls into place.

Ensign Shiro Amada is the commander of the 08th Mobile Suit Team in the One Year war. Face with combat on the front lines Shiro is forced to make difficult choices when the choices aren't always as clear as black and white.

This DVD is a little short on the extras. You have a credit free opening and closing sequences. That's really about it. The picture and the sound however, are crisp and clear as a bell. Bandai made sure they had done a good job on the transfer and it shows. For those who are partial to subtitles they are offered in English. But Bandai's stable of voice actors are among the better crop. The English dialogue doesn't sound strained or labored. Most "purists" will only watch subtitled anime. But on 08th MS Team the English dub excellent.

This is one of those anime series that you can proudly display in you DVD collection. And one that could possibly convert the non-anime fans who don't think that animation can be a medium for serious story telling.

Strip away the giant robots, space ships and fantastic weapons and at its core you have a story about REAL human beings. That's what it's about. and that's why it works.

Summary: A breath of air from the cloud of Gundam Wing
Review: First of all, you probably want to get the first volume, otherwise this one won't make much sence.

Rather than the pretty boys and fancy suits of Gundam Wing, this series is all about the role players, the people who do the behind-the-lines dirty work in a war. It focuses on Ensign federation pilot Shiro Amada, and his Mobile Suit team fighting the Duchy of Zion. The series takes place at the same time as the original gundam series(U.C. 0079 in Gundam-time). But takes place of earth rather than in space.

The animation of this series is rather well done, with drab greys and greens making up most of the palette. It has it's share of the anime trademark "pan-over-still-image" shots, but they are few, and handled nicely.

The characters are well animated, and unlike the characters of Gundam Wing, are very REALISTIC: Gritty, tough-as-nails, but also mortal. Each one adds to the story with his unique personality, the foolhardy but noble Shiro, the gritty Karen Joshua, the grim Terry Sanders, the goofy Aladore Massis, and the introspective Micheal Ninorich.

The mobile suits are well-designed and interesting. They don't have the "invincibility advantage" that the GW models have, which also makes battles against the Zion Zakus more interesting, because the battles are realistic, with neither side having a decided advantage over the other.

Story-wise, the series is fairly well done, for the fact that it concerns the standard troops of a military group, doing things that a realistic military group would do. The plot in involving, though surprising, so I won't spoil any of it for you.

That's it for now. It may not be my fave anime series, but it's up there.

Summary: True Spirit of Gundam...
Review: forget Gundam Wing. Those are for kids. the 8th MS team is what Gundam is all about. This is a balanced series that tells both side of the war in a very human way -- love, friendship, trust are all discussed. ALso, it shows that there is no absolute good or absolute evil in war, but all are guilty. It's mecha are not the all might invincible robots of GUndam Wing, and this is a good thing since it enhances the real struggles that pilots go through in war. And last but not least, it is great animation. You can't go wrong with this. As good as the other great series of Gundam -- 0083 Stardust Memories.

Summary: One of the greatest Anime Saga's of all time
Review: Gundam wing was nice, sure, if your into that kinda kiddie stuff. This is what is in store for american gundam fans that want serious gundam shows. Its a war through the eyes off the feds and the zeon. there is no wrong or right. both sides are equally to blame. When i first watched this i was blown away. It wasn't "my mech is is better then yours" or "I'm a wimpy newtype (see Mobile Suit Gundam and Chars Counter Attack)who goes bezerk." no it was waht really goes on in war on any kind of military base. The mix between the characters of the 08th Team is wonderfully done. and the part about Sanders the reaper was an excellent touch. Most kids would hurl if htey saw this anime ucase they wouldn't know what to think. mostly cuase there too defensive of gundam wing *shudder* I think that one of hte greatest anime sagas of all time is here to stay.

Summary: 08th MS Team Rocks!
Review: How could you not like this series? If you were weaned on Cartoon Network's Gundam Wing series as your first Gundam, I'm very sorry. Wing is the black sheep of the series. If you've seen any of the other Gundam series, then you will instantly love this one. Great characters, som very funny moments, awesome storyline, and not to mention the beautiful artwork done on this series. The only bad part is that this series is very short and the extras on the DVD are slim. In the end, it will leave you very satisfied.

Summary: Excellent addition to the Gundam series...
Review: I did see the original series of Gundam, which made me think of a good story on a tight budget. I saw Wing which was a long & realistic series (politicaly anywayz) on a very large budget. This 08th team should appeal to a much wider audience. The first thing that make me say "this is cool" was the fact that all the vehicles/robots from the orignal series were here, but execellently redrawn. This will also make you laugh out loud many times. Also much shorter than some of the other series, but there is alot in each episode.

Summary: great
Review: I don't know why people feel compelled to compare this to Gundam Wing since both series have nothing in common, and they both occur in two completely different universes. The only comparisons that can be made, however, should be in regard to the actual Gundams and pilots themselves. The Gundams are mass produced mobile suits piloted by regular soldiers; much different than the seemingly invincible mobile suits piloted by extraordinarily talented teenagers from Gundam Wing (and even Gundam X in some respects). Series like this is what Gundam is all about: action, story, drama, and of course mecha. The human aspect to war is also ever-present, which draws from the emotions and lifestyles of each character. All four volumes of this series are highly recommended.
