Summary: Outlaw Star brings a GREAT example of Anime at it's greatest
Review: I am a fairly obsessive anime fan to say the least, so my experience with anime series is rather vast (wow, i'm modest! ^_^), but Outlaw Star is one of those series that I will NEVER forget. Usually most anime series brought over to America contain plots of pure violence and gore with SHALLOW characters who might as well be robots OR a series where too much is focused on the character and the plot makes you fall asleep. I am happy to report that Outlaw Star is able to perfectly blend a well-rounded amount of action, suspense, humor, and plot along with characters that are actually interesting and FUN to watch develop throughout the series. Luckily for me, this was one of the first anime series that I ever watched and has kept me on my anime-obsession craze ever since. The story is WONDERFUL, the storyline is serious yet HILARIOUS, and the characters are people you'd like to go to the bar with after work or do things with on the weekend. WATCH IT!!

Summary: Outlaw Star DVD Collection 1
Review: First,this is an awesome DVD. I personally think it is better than the all popular Dragon Ball Z. This is the story of 2 outlaws,Gene and Jim,who take a bodyguard job from a lady name Rachel. We later find out that Rachel is the outlaw Hilda. Pirates attack Gene,Jim,and Hilda because the pirates are after Hilda because she stoll something from them. I'm going to let you find out the rest. This DVD is more than worth than the money you pay for it. Also,try to get the other 2 DVDs as well. All the characters are so well done. Simply amazing.

Summary: Cool anime, lousy DVD
Review: Outlaw Star is one of those animes that is cool from the first episode and doesn't stop. If you have the money, pick up this DVD. While it may seem pricey, you get your money's worth since there are fewer episodes on the VHS tapes. But what seems to be a pattern in anime DVDs is no special features. These two discs lack a lot in that area. Still the series is so cool it doesn't really matter. You can watch Outlaw Star on TV if you want see the inferior edited version.

Review: If you saw Outlaw Star on Toonami and liked it then you will just love this DVD. It contains two disks the first one has 5 episodes while the second has 4. They both have a choice of languages English or Japanese and the choice of subtitles. I was a bit disappointed by the extra features. Though it has a model sheet for each character and a textless begining and though there both good that's about it. But the quality of the episodes really made up for it. If you are going to buy this DVD then I suggest that you also buy the other two cause as soon as you finish with this one you will want to watch the other two. But if your like me you'll have to save your allowance to buy the other two first. So you'll probably end up watching it over and over again.

Summary: Outlaw Star-Quality Anime
Review: After i saw the Outlaw Star series on cartoon network, i simply loved it. the characters and the relationships they have with each other were great. So i of course went to get the dvd because i wanted to get the full package and see the series as intended. When it arrived i saw that the cover art was nice and slick. there were two discs and i popped them in to start viewing episodes. the menus quickly got on my nerves as did the music. At the beginning of each episode there is a little monologue/sermon followed by the opening sequence. this opening quickly becomes old after a few episodes. The animation is great but the song becomes annoying and detracts from the experience. The episodes on these two discs are mainly to introduce characters and plot elements. Overall the dvd is great but only get it if you are going to get the others.

Summary: Good Animation, Very Good Story, Great Value.
Review: So you're Joe schlub anime fan (like me), you see Outlaw Star on Toonami, and you think "hey, this is pretty good." Why should you buy these discs?Well, in my case, I missed 1 1/2 episodes while taping, and I had a general suspicion that some of the plot holes were due to editing for US TV. I really liked the characters, so I bit the bullet and ponied up for the 3-volume set. Was this a wise move? After finishing them, I vote yes. I won't reveal story info, but I'll say the series as a whole is definitely interesting. There is an Indiana Jones-esque treasure hunting feel mixed with a slick, sci-fi universe and engaging character interaction. I would guess there is about thirty seconds of extra footage in 10 or 15 episodes of the 26 episode arc. Mostly it seems to have been cut out because it displayed sexual relationships or seedy sex-related locales. I suppose it makes sense to cut this for the 12-under set, but none of it was very ribald at all. Language was also edited. Also cut from the CN airing of the show was an episode "Hot Springs Planet Tenrei," due to about three or four minutes of frontal female nudity and about 15 minutes of action revolving around frontal female nudity :). Having watched both "versions" of the show, I would definitely say the uncut show is the better, with a tad more cohesiveness and a fair amount more of characterization and color. However, you don't miss a whole ton of story by watching the edited shows. Sights and sounds are pumped up and very good. Pipe it through a Surround sound receiver (the discs are in stereo, but a good receiver will create virtual channes for near 5.1 sound) and crank up the volume. Outlaw Star is a show with good sound effects and good music. Watch it loud! A note on voice acting: I really liked the english dub. I found it hard to get into the japanese audio track, as some of the voices didn't seem to fit as well as the english. Picture quality is nearly flawless, only a few pixellation spots. The extras are pretty sparse, but it's not some great travesty. At about 2 hours per disc, 2 discs per set there's enough value to forgive minor flaws like this. There are one or two nagging questions I have, mostly regarding character backstory (how did Gene and Jim meet? What the heck was up with Harry M.? He seemed to lack credible motivation...). Also, the conclusion left a number of dangling threads which hopefully will be picked up in a new installment (after all, it did say "To Be Continued" and "See You Next Time" at the end...) In sum, though, if you saw the CN show and want a nice set, this is definitely the way to go. If you want to give it a try, Buy Vol. 1, which, containing the first 9 episodes is definitely enough to tell whether you like it or not (The "I'm hooked" point is around episode 4 for me, "When the Hot Ice Melts."). If you don't like it, you can resell it for probably $20 or so. I doubt you will, though. Outlaw Star is genuinely funny, occasionally thrilling and always interesting.

Summary: Outlaw Star, one very interesting tale
Review: If there's any word I have to use to describe this story, it's "interesting." As a science fiction fan, I have to say that it combines a believable future along with incredibly unrealistic science. As an anime fan, I have to say that it's a stunning universe with everything you could possibly need to occupy fans for hours. I commend the producers for only making it a twenty six episide series, it's not so long that the interest begins to twindle. It's pleasing to watch with a full character crew of interesting and non-cliche characters. The hero, Gene Starwind, isn't the usual perfect guy that is portayed in anime. He's obnoxious, arrogant, rude and treats women without any respect. However he's a downright likable guy who shows skill, cunning, resourcefulness and morals when the situation gets grim. There are certain scenes or lines that are overdone or just plain make the show look stupid. There's a lot of important details that are dropped casually, and having a DVD copy makes it good to look over to see what you missed. All together, it's a very enjoyable series. I saw a trailer for "Angel Links," which is the spinoff, on the second set and it looks, well... stupid, and lacking all the effort that was pounded into the original series that makes it unique. I recommend anyone who likes to watch intense action coupled with likable heroines to purchase this. There's a lot of drama in too but you can just fast forward if you don't like the mushy stuff. =p

Summary: Wacky and Somewhat Cliched, but Fun
Review: Outlaw Star is, mostly, a bizarre mish-mash of subjects. There are spaceships and mecha, bounty hunters and pirates, as well as magic. Throw in a total disregard for the law of gravity and a bunch of spiky-haired protagonists, and you have the classic anime film. The show I can compare this to best is 'Cowboy Bebop.' In its technology, art, and treatment of the cowboys-in-space theme, the two are very, very, similar. The main difference is that 'Outlaw Star' doesn't place as much emphasis on style, and it includes plenty of magic. The magic appears to be the same quasi-religious stuff we've seen in 'Doomed Megalopolis' and 'Vampire Princess Miyu.' Normally the contrasts would be a strange juxtaposition, but this is anime we're talking about. If you're an anime veteran you'll already be so familiar with the ideas that suspension of disbelief is not an issue. If you're new to anime, well... this is par for the course. The show itself is surprisingly well done. The plot and action are adult enough to make things interesting, but not to the point that little kids can't enjoy it. The animation is average. Like all anime, it's quality depends on whether you're watching an action scene or not. The action scenes are fluid and explosive (if a bit improbable) and the rest of the show is composed of the usual still shots with minimal body language. (you know, how their lips move and the rest of the body is frozen?) However, unlike 'Evangelion' and 'Ghost in the Shell' these frame-saving slow-downs aren't glaring and don't interrupt the pacing at all. That's a good thing, too, because in terms of plot and animation 'Outlaw Star' is pretty much average. It doesn't compare with 'Lain' or the later episodes of 'Eva.' The show's real strength lies in its quick pace and humor. Normally dry Japanese humor is an acquired taste, but not so with 'Outlaw Star.' It's genuininely funny. In the end, that's the bottom line of 'Outlaw Star.' It's strange, it sometimes doesn't make much sense, and it ignores the laws of space physics, but in the end it all adds up to be just plain fun. If you're looking for hard-edged sci-fi like 'Akira' and 'GitS' you won't find it here, but if you're a fan of comedy sci-fi like 'Cowboy Bebop,' 'Trigun,' or 'MAPS' you'll get a kick out of it.

Review: Outlaw Star is got to be one of the animes that kept you in your seat and made you ask for more! In this DVD it contains up to 9 episodes in a 2-disc set. Only negetaive part of this DVD is the casing. The box is so wide and thick. Unlike volumes 2 & 3, volume 1's casing is sort of strange. It's also hard for me to pull the DVD's out of the case. Now to Outlaw Star. I can't believe the little things they edited out on Toonami. You got to purchase this DVD cause watching these episodes uncut is like watching extra deleted fotage. Buy This, it's a great series!

Summary: Reason to buy this rather than to record on Cartoon Network!
Review: You should buy this DVD without worrying about "Why don't I just record the show on Cartoon Network?" First of all, this one, and the other 2 versions, are un-cut. There's some cussing, extra scenes, and Character Image Galleries. You can make it talk in English or Japenese audio. You can also choose what part of the episode to go to, and last but not least, on Collection 3, there's an episode that was never shown on TV. If you got a DVD player, BUY THIS DVD AND THE 2 OTHER COLLECTIONS!!!
