Summary: What a Scam
Review: Why this product is entitled "Collector's Set" I will never know. Several of the DVDs arrived all scratched and unviewable, four of the DVDs were in fact foreign editions, and several of the DVDs appeared to be copies, in fact two of the movies stopped immediately with "The End" screen and did not roll the credits. I would strongly encourage anyone who wasted their money on this set to review your DVDs for lack of bar codes, smudged artwork etc and report it to the Walt Disney Company copyright department. How disappointing that Amazon would let a vendor such as this post goods on it's website. Oh yeah - the vendor did not send this expedited shipping as they were supposed to and it arrived almost three weeks after it was ordered.

Summary: Very bad idea, except one major correction to others reviews
Review: This is a terrible collection, no extras, far too expensive..they must think we are really stupid to buy this set.
That having been said one point needs to be made, the older Disneys films were not originaly filmed in what we call "Widescreen" on DVDs. Snow White, Pinnochio, and I think one or two others were filmed in what we call Pan and Scan. These film are not cut they never were filmed in the wider format, just look at the Wizard of OZ it isn't widescreen either.
People need to realize that widescreen films were not possible until about the 1940's or 50's and even then it was soo expensive not all films were made in that format.

Summary: Anthology? Nothing now
Review: I was surprised to read that many of the DVDs in this collection are no even in widescreen. They dared to charge this much for a collection and put in the cheaper versions as well. Watching movies in their original widescreen version is one of the major reasons why DVD format is awesome. It is a real dissapointment that they couldn't "spring" for the widescreen that usually runs [a little] more, boo hoo. I would NOT recommend this set, it is WAY over prices, and you will miss half of some of these movies seeing them in "pan & scan". And don't get me started on why "The Lion King" was not included but "The Lion King 2" was!!!!!

Summary: Dinsey needed a Cash cow.
Review: So many people have been screaming for Disney to go DVD and they did. People rejoiced, but sadly the result is no good. These DVDs are overpriced and Not that great.

Disney should have taken a look at the a Bug's Life 2 Disc set for Content and Prince of Egypt Disc for presentation. Okay sure these discs are all Full Frame but Hey Mulan would have been cool in Anamorphic!

Disney has proven their intentions buy releasing substandard DVDs just to make some extra dough. A mere upgrade from their VHS versions.

Buy this only if you want don't own the vhs tapes.

OH What's up with the Lion King II? When did Direct-to-Video titles become Classics?

Summary: Some Good, Some Bad
Review: Ok, ok...I have got to say that the biggest thing that dissappoints me about this set is the lack of some real true classics. As many have said, The Lion King, one of the best...Aladin, who can forget that...and if Disney would get off of it's back side and see the truth, they would release Song of the South on DVD and add it......I do love Lady & the Tramp, Jungle Book, Little Mermaid, and (although newer than the rest) Mulan....But Lion King 2 stunk bigtime, huge let-down...Hercules, BLAH BLAH BLAH...101 Dalmations, Pinochio, and Peter Pan are definately the classics that have earned their right to be in there. One last thing....with DVD's today typically going for about 20 to 25 bucks....why in the world are these averaging [price] a pop, and they don't even come with special behind the scenes, deleted scenes, special add on stuff that make DVD so awsome..............

Review: Don't bother with this set.

Summary: GOOD, BUT TOO EXPENSIVE!
Review: This set has many classics but this is a real [expensive]!Who ever heard of 9 movies for ... dollars anyway? If you buy these movies separately it will be a much smaller price.I still give it 5 stars because of the great movies inside the package.People keep putting this down because they didnt include ALL of the classics but keep in mind that the title says disney dvd collecters set 1!...?
The only other flaw is that they put THE LION KING 2 in the set even though its the first set and they havent included the original LION KING yet.Go ahead and buy this set if you have a lot of money, you wont be dissapointed

Summary: A real steal
Review: ... For that price you get several great movies. When we first bought the set, our son was not old enough to enjoy many of the movies. However, when we went on the Disney Cruise he discovered Hercules and he was so excited to see that he had it when we got home. And Mulan is also a great movie - our son loves Mushu. ...

Summary: Hey Disney; need a dictionary?
Review: Disney Buena Vista needs to get his facts straight and is in desperate need of an update about the meaning of the word "classic".
In my dictionary, it says something in the line of: "Something that has sentimental or special value, preferably from some time ago."
Disney regards just about everything they release as a classic. It's wrong, and they know it; they just don't want to see it.

Let's take a look at some Disney-flics I regard as a Classic:
Pinocchio fits that bill, Snow White too, 101 Dalmatians, Aladdin (Robin Williams is just great), Jungle Book... See? they made enough films that can carry the "Classic"-title with pride.
Their sequels however, are not.
You just can't make a sequel to a fairie-tale, let alone call it a classic. Those two things just don't mix.
Sequels to a fairie-tale is just greedy moneymaking. Fine by me: they need money to create the bigger movies. But PLEASE Disney; don't call these cheap ripoffs classics, and don't put them in an overpriced box, hoping that customers overlook The Lion King II (or rather; The Lyin' King; Kimba, anyone?) and Hercules, alltough that's still a funny movie, but not great.

So, my advice to you who reads this review: just buy the movies that you like, and leave this miserable failure on the shelves, letting Disney know they just can't pull anything off.

Summary: Yooo Haw
Review: What is all this rumor about? This is the classic anthology. I understand that some people are really disappointed by the choice of movies - BUT it is very nice. There are only a few of bouns features, which are not necessary to mention BUT it offers some movies which are just not available today. Therefore, my kids and me really like this collection. The picture quality is excellent and the sound quality according to the source - more than 50 year old movies. I don't think that the price is a bargain - not at all. I bought it for about 100$ which makes it somehow a bargain.
If the price would not be this high, I would fully recommend this collection to everyone interested in Disney movies. Currently I can only say - buy movies at better price / quality relations than this.
