Summary: Fun to mess around with.
Review: This was the first anime movie I saw, and I saw it on Laserdisk (so I can't say much about the quality of the sound or color of the DVD...but you can check other reviews for that). But damn, until this day, I have never seen another anime quite like it. You can mess around with the interpretations of the plot so much it can seem kind of ridiculous. I had a lot of fun, messing around with it (and people's minds, too).For example, if you see it as a kind of genesis, it's about:
1: The creation of the first male (females were created first)
2: The creation of the first male ends female domination and starts male domination
3: Women originated far far away from the solar system, but man originated in the solar system, and grew up (literally) on the moon...
4: That is why the moon has no atmosphere (because we blew it to bits...)
5: Women want men (and that all the weird wet dreams are due to pheromones).
6: We escaped from the Moon and that's how we came to be on Earth, with the first human beings being Adam and Eve. Anyway as you can tell, the whackiness factor makes it hard to forget, and even though it can be kind of sexist sometimes (especially with a very obvious gratuitous nudity shower scene), it's a fun original movie to watch, with some of the mecha in this being grafted into many other shows, like Robotech. Ignore my little genesis theory for now (which has been reworked because someone reminded me it was the moon, not Mars...so the producers don't buy into the Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus bit), and watch it for yourself...it isn't as straight and dry as I make it out to be ^_^; LOL there's a lot of other interesting concepts in this, after all (which came first, the chicken, or the egg?)...and if you agree with my theory, send me an e-mail ^_^ I want to know that it isn't just me who thinks like this!
