Review: A freaky dark sci-fi series. It has a unique art style that I haven't seen before. The voice acting was excellent as well. It earned a 16+ rating due to its dark nature, and earned it justly. It's not a series small children would understand and enjoy. I loved it, though and I highly recommend it

Summary: Anime At Its Best!!!
Review: I really can't say enough positive things about Lain. I have watched hundreds of anime series and Lain is definitely one of the top 25 I have seen. I just *loved* the opening song by BOA, and the mix of computer and hand drawn backgrounds just feels "right." Oh yeah, the storyline is first-rate all the way! I highly recommend this series to everyone. And if you have a DVD player, you are in for a *real* treat. The DVD has crystal clear video, and the audio is very clean too... So stop reading this and go buy it!

Review: i bought this on a whim...i read all the amazon reviews(all 5 stars) but was still skeptical.so i typed lain into one of my search engins and was rewarded with over two million sites telling me how good this was.....i bought it...put it in the dvd player....and was instantly hooked. from the opening credits to the ending credits this is an absorbing story. You are litterally locked in lains world as she transforms from a shy introverted 13 year old. i watched the entire first four episodes twice the day i received them and then ordered the second four episodes(knights)after. i will order the third in the series(deus) as soon as it is made available. all in all i was expecting a ripoff of x-files(everything down to the type of lettering used on the cover pointed to it)but what i got was probably the best tv series that has ever appeared on my television. don't take my word for it....check out the web..

Review: Dark and foreboding with a techno twist, this haunting series is absolutely the best anime I've seen in years. The pace is not fast, but the author has created a compelling story set in a wired world. Unlike most anime, the english dub works very well in this series. And the theme song is catchy too.

Summary: Engrossing! Cyber suspense at its finest...
Review: At the time of this writing, I've viewed the first three of four "layers" of the first "Serial Experiment Lain, 'NAVI'". I find it gripping in that is the most innovative of Japanese anime I've thus far seen. The style reminds me of underground comics of the 60's and 70's but has a freshness of color and motion. The series clearly shows the conditions of the characters; social disconection, benign neglect in a dysfunctional family, social seperation as it is found in both American as well as Japanese schools, etc. The underlying story is of a young girl, alienated from others because of her shyness, finding a connection to what is called the "Wired". It is not yet clear as to the mechanations of her being made aware of the wired other than the E-mail she gets from a dead classmate telling her about how she only left this world for the one she's in now. I greatly anticipate the next video release where we can continue to see the merging of "The Wired" and "The real World" unfold... Warning! This series will be very disturbing to individuals who suffer from dysfunctional social skills. There is a risk I can see the ease of identifying with these characters could lead to emotional distress. The best viewing is Sub-tittled for the simple fact that you get to hear the actual originally intended voice characterization. John Sanford

Review: Absolutely amazing. After watching the whole series, i was in awe! It's mind numbing, thought provoking, and twisted; having you ask questions at every turn. Lain is philosophical and story driven, but has complementing animation: both superb!

Review: This series has had me hooked from the first episode on! I've seen the first 6 episodes and recently got the US DVD release. And what can I say? It's weird, no doubt about that, it's mind-boggling, like, what's real and what's not real? It's also a refreshing title in the endless stream of titles that keep popping up. All in all it's simply a great series that deserves to be seen!

Review: This was my first purchase of an anime video and I wasn't disappointed. I'm still a little confused about it. I came to assume, as I was watching it, that each "layer" was basically an episode of a series. I wonder if it was aired on Japanese television. Well, the summaries that are given for this title, I'm sure, sum the main events all up. There's not much going on in terms of actual happenings. It is quite slow and long, but not bad because of it. I really liked the slow scenes of maybe just Lain walking down some stairs outside. The quality of the anime, its style and air of distinction, that it was more sophisticated than most anime, made me want to see what happens. Although I haven't seen much anime, there is an obvious difference. "Navi" is hard to understand, it uses the term "the Wired" which remains ambiguous. "the Wired" seemed like an extremely imaginative, eerie version of the internet. I have a real respect for the pace at which it unvails and its dark style. Having only seen this one tape in the series (I assume there will be more) I am left with more questions than answers about just who the hell Lain is and what she was doing, what all that stuff was ("the Wired" etc.) I liked it, but wouldn't recommend it for someone looking for humor, violence, nudity, or action. It seemed to have the makings of a compelling plot and I loved the way that it was unique, stylized, because parts of it seemed neurotic and only meant for effect instead of affecting the storyline. Very good, if slow.

Review: By far, one of the creepiest animes out of there. The plot is built up quietly, and before you even realize it you're trapped in Lain's world with her... The theme song is terriffic, and I was impressed that it was in English! 5 Stars is too low for this anime!
