Summary: Twilight for the Arcadia
Review: Unlike many who will see this DVD, I have seen the entire opera "Harlock Saga" is based upon. That, along with a familiarity with the Harlock story influenced my decision to see this OVA. Unfortunately this OVA will not make viewers want to see the "Ring of the Nibelung". Just as well, the characters of the gods are rather disappointing and inconsequential to the outcome of this story.Halfway through the 4th episode I knew the big "uchu-senkan" battle was not going to take place, so don't get this OVA expecting a big dramatic shootout. I also wondered what was Harlock doing to move the story along? Harlock mostly stood around stoically watching things happen, ready to deliver his lines dramatically when his cue came up. This story could have been played out without his presence for the most part, unlike the character of Sigfrid whose role in the god's fates was critical. The Arcadia does not have the starring role in this feature, she's just there to move the character's around, blast one battleship and smush a robot. Two stars for fans of the Matsumotoic world. Others need not bother, you will be hopelessly bored.
