Summary: Real dissapointment with Mental ray
Review: Do not buy this DVD..A lot of promises made with this dvd but none kept at all.Half the dvd is about how to wait while images are being rendered and most of it is useless explanation of the basic Maya shading networks that even a beginner would know.This dvd does not explain or even mention the use of the Mental ray shaders.Just runs through the basic parameters of setting up a mental ray render,well you do not have to spend that much money to learn that!!!Basic mental ray tutorials are scattered all over the internet and you can get them for FREE!!
Cant believe that this DVD is labelled REAL MENTAL RAY when all it is really is a major scam!!

Review: I REPEAT DO NOT PURCHASE! Its a waste and the people that made this DVD should be ashamed and slap themselves, you can learn all they say just on tutorials, and even MORE than what they did. HECK im such a noob to Maya and they tought me nothin, if your lookin at this, just look at some tuorials, save you money and a headache, Plus he has a REAL annoying voice.

Review: Judging for the previous reviews, I thought that I had finally found a good set of Mental Ray tutorials. However, I was wrong. These tutorials more or less just graise accross the basics of mental ray and the hypershade menu. I expected a more in depth explaination of how to set up Global Illumination using Photonics and Final Gathering. They mearly give brief examples of these techniques and nothing more. Where's the examples of fine tuning and animating with GI? And then there's the Mental Ray Shader library, which they don't even mention. Probably the most powerful feature of the software. ...

Review: Oh boy. This DVD pushes the envelope for instructional videos. There must be 3 hours of click-by-click tutorial in there, and these guys really know their stuff! The material is *dense*. Believe me, you won't be watching this all in one sitting! My computer doesn't have a DVD player, but I was able to contact Mesmer support through the email address on the insert and they gave me a URL to conveniently download the scene files etc. I highly recommend this since it is my opinion that the best way to use this DVD is to follow along, pausing and replaying sections so you don't fall behind and get lost.

Review: This DVD content ranges from junior to professional levels in
harnessing the power of mental ray.
With this fast-paced video I was able to use the mental ray renderer more efficiently in Maya.
The crew at Mesmer's unique teaching style when disscussing mental
ray concepts are easily applied to the mental ray renderer using
other 3d packages like Softimage's XSI. All in all, a definite
must-have for taming mental ray in Maya.

Review: This DVD is apsolute waste of money.
It's not cheap, promisses a lot, delivers nothing.
The length of the DVD is due to fact that when they
render a picture you are waiting until image is rendered.
It's like if you bought a book about painting,
and you watch on video how the paint dry...
This is just one of huge wasting of time on this DVD.
None of the work on DVD looks truly proffesional,
and the level of explanation is just like simple demo,
which is just not enough.
I haven't learned anything from this DVD, I doubt anyone
will except total begginers which might find this interesting
if they never heard of Mental ray, but they start learning
maya.
