Summary: Funny, sweet anime for the whole family
Review: I encountered this anime title by chance on the internet and decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed.

The storyline follows an apprentice demon called Risky and an apprentice angel called Safety. Both inhabit the same body, and they magically transform from one into the other when the moods of people around them change. In the first six episodes on this DVD, the two intervene in the life of a teenage Japanese schoolgirl named Moe who is having relationship problems. Risky attempts to cause Moe more misery and to take her life, while Safety attempts to make her feel happy. Both are inept at their work, however, and Moe ends up befriending both beings. In the seventh and eight episodes, the storyline switches to a teenage girl who lives alone with her father in a setting that looks like Eastern Europe. The father is a craftsman who builds life-sized automated dolls. He spends more time with his work than with his daughter, so his daughter is unhappy. Risky and Safety again intervene. Unfortunately, this storyline continues on to episode 10, so viewers will want to buy DVD 2 to finish watching the storyline.

The animation for the series is good, but it is neither especially stylized nor technically superior compared to most anime series. Nonetheless, the animation has some artistic merit. The subtitles seem to be true to the translation, and the voice acting for the English dubbing sounds good. If anything, the storyline is the only thing that holds this series back, although the stories have both some depth and some humor. The subject material is really aimed at younger girls rather than a broad audience. The storyline also suffers from a few non-sequitious jumps that are confusing to the viewers. The humor could be a little more madcap than what is presented, but the comedy builds up nicely as the series progresses.

I would suggest this series to both anime fans that like romantic comedies and for families with young girls.

Review: I took a chance with this DVD, the first ever release from AN Entertainment. I usually don't like cutsey shows, and I'd never heard of this one before, but my curiosity got the better of me. And so did the show! Risky Safety is a really charming little gem that anybody will love, regardless of whether you're an anime fan or not. The characterizations are just so appealing, and the story is really well written. The English dub is also surprisingly engaging and natural sounding, which really helps create a great atmosphere.

I was thrilled to discover that the DVD features a really attractive reversible cover and a great insert of really intelligent and informative liner notes that are also included as a bonus feature on the disc itself.

The episodes are only 10 minutes long, but they're a perfect length to keep you interested without bogging down the pace. This is seriously a surprisingly addictive little show. Don't let the look fool you into skipping over this one. If you like good anime, I bet you'll fall in love with Risky Safety the same way I did.
