Summary: it's true, it won't work on a PS2
Review: *sigh* I really hate it when companies are making a really great thing, then change it. If all you have is a PS2 don't even think of picking this up. Finish your Bebop collection instead or something. On a side note, they changed the casing too, and it's horrendous. Thinner casing, bad snap shut thingie, and it's harder to take out the DVD and put it away than just about any other DVD case. Why Bandai? What have I ever done unto thee...?

Summary: Escaflowne Vol.5 won't play on your PS2, why?
Review:

First of all, this is truly a masterpiece worth adding to any otaku collection out there, it's incredible two thumbs up!

Yes, I guess I will join the frustrated club of people who can't get the damn disc to play on their PS2s. I don't even know myself why is that, I guess it was mastered in a different way than the others that makes it incompatible with Sony's system. Last night I was going to get ready to see it when I realized that it didn't want to play and I got this "Unable to read disc" message, I was shocked. I tried to change the Region on the PS2 settings but it did not work. I was going to send it back to Amazon but I read in time the customers reviews and found out what was wrong. It is a real shame that companies that bother to bring to America such splendid anime series don't care about translating and producing high quality products, the only thing that is going to happen is that anime otakus will question the anime quality and even think that a certain serie is not that good. It is just like Slayers first set where the Japanese sound phase was inverted and play wrong on many people DVD players.

Fortunately, I know that Escaflowne is a true winner and the animation, music, and storyline are clearly planned to achieve one of the best animated series I ever seen in my life. The music is beautifully composed and arranged properly throughout the whole series, giving viewers a feel of the story, it really makes me be part of it. I just love it! ...One thing that I don't like about the dub version is the characters voices, they just don't have the passion that the Japanese had and therefore something is missed from the original version. An example of this can be found on disc 1 in the four episode "The Diabolical Adonis" when Merle is captured by Allen's soldiers. She tells Van that Fanelia was burned down and everyone died defending their town. Check the dub version and then the original and you will see what I mean. It doesn't have the same energy nor passion to efficiently communicate the message. It's a good try though but not enough. I also discovered that if you are watching the first episode right after the prologue ends the disc stops playing and you get the same message I mentioned before. A bug? was it mastered incorrectly? who knows for sure. ...

Anyway, if any if you otaku have any problems playing this or any other disc let me know, maybe we can all do something about this situation. Bombed Bandai with millions of emails and give them a hard time perhaps? Also, if anyone knows where I can lay my hands on the Escaflowne movie let me know please.

See ya all!

Summary: What you get is great, if you can get it to play...
Review: As for working or not working on PS2, I don't know, but it also doesn't like to play on my DVD player. I usually don't have any trouble with the player, but these DVD's (1-4 that I already own) are very tempermental.

As for the show, it's probably one of the best anime titles I have ever seen, and even the dubbed track is nicely done, and the voices agree to the characters. (Even dilandau, who sounds like a woman drill-sargent). The artwork is very nice, and the fight scenes are beyond most other shows. I recommend this series to anyone, and will definatley be buying (and finding some way to watch) #5.

Review: Escaflowne is the one of the greatest masterpieces ever. And I mean ever. Everything is done right... from the plot, the characters, the originality, the beautiful music, everything. If you are into the fantasy genre, you have to check this out.

Summary: Doesnt work and PS2, but Bandai denies any responsibility
Review: Great series, but unfortunately Bandai has just about the worst customer service imaginable. They take several days to answer emails concerning their products, and once they do answer your email, they deny that there is any problem on their part and blame all difficulties on sony. Nevermind the fact that their new casing is cheap and their new method of making these DVDs won't work on ps2s.

Summary: Why stupid people shouldn't write reviews!
Review: I don't know about you people but these DVDs work fine on my player. My best advice for you all is to not compalin if your $300.00 dollar gaming machine doesn't work quite right and go out side and buy a "good" DVD player.

Summary: go buy this now!!!
Review: I finally broke down and bought Escaflowne, I was lucky and was able to get a limited boxed set at suncoast ><. I strongly suggest you get this series, and do not read the little synospis online it will ruin it for you...but back to the review, i can't say how much i enjoyed this series. I am a yoai fan, and if your reading this you know what that is... I always, and i mean always change the character's relationships around so that its always two boys/men. This was the only series in which i could not break the male from his female love intrest to pair him with another guy ( your safe Van, Allen)... for me that takes a very good series, and i am not saying that with a grain of salt, so Buy this series watch it, and then watch the movie which is also very good, however the movie is very dark outright were the series is more stuble darkness... BUY ESCAFLOWNE BUY IT... i know the noses get kinda annoying with there sharpness... but its very good, god i think i am going to go watch it now...

Summary: Buy This DVD!
Review: I really don't know what the other reviewers were talking about. I own a PS2 and the Escaflowne DVD's work just fine on my player. With that said I'll continue my review. I absolutly love this show, it is a must see for any anime fan. this show has everything, great fights, romance, drama, mystery, and even a little humor. All the characters are great, there is not one I don't like, even the "bad guys." I haven't seen the fifth DVD yet but im sure it will be just as great as the others. The last episode's cliffhanger left me wanting more. What's going to happen to Van? Anyway this is a great show that everyone can enjoy. my little brother likes it and i didn't think i could get him to watch anything but Pokemon. So buy this DVD! There is even a plus for the girls...plenty of hot anime guys!

Summary: KILLER EXCITEMENT!!!
Review: I should of discover escaflowne anime long time ago. When they set it out on fox (not to mention soooooooooooo bad edited!), they made it so bad that many of those that would of been fans say that they will never watch it -either cut or no cut. I never really have the chance to see escaflowne on fox. After I heard that it been canceled and everyone say it [stinks], I have no intension to watch. however, on the internet, a lot of people like it and some dont, I was confused. I went to a local anime rental shop and just rent the first one...... IT WAS VERY VERY exciting.... you'll feel like you are part of the show. you will feel everyone's anger, agression, pain, happiness and so forth. Now I am a proud owner of vol 1-6 ( i preordered 7 and 8).... believe me, this is too good on dvd.... you can choose to listen to dub or sub ( i prefer sub because dub expression looses it... and merle the cat girl sounds so KAWAII!!! (means cute. The music is so good that I bought all the cd soundtrack. What I like about this anime is that everyone has a good background story... very good connection..... Some anime don't live up to this expectation like MAZE.. believe me that one is so low. OKay enough said, Volume 5 dvd.... I dont want to spoil you but at the end of this volume you will feel so good..... sooooo good that you will start making yourself a escaflowne mecha out of anything!. I am never a fan of any EDITTED anime.... they lose the story and lose fans that would of been fans. I am glad I didn't watch the one on fox or else I would of never watch the uncut version. Plus, limited time, if you collect 1-8 of escaflowne dvds.. you will get tarot cards set (mail in offer from proof of purchases) ....... The best damn anime I ever watched.... list: 1) Escaflowne 2) Slayers next and try 3) saber j marionette.
