Summary: Waste of time
Review: I love Fulci's zombie flicks, but this is something very different. Evil nuns coming back to take revenge sounds like a cool idea but trust me, the execution of the story is really bad. The last 20 minutes are so confusing and stupid I just wish I hadn't even bothered with it. House By The Cemetery, Gates Of Hell and the Beyond blow this away. There is some decent gore here but it doesn't save the film. Fulci had just lost his touch at this point, so I'd say see this only if you are a completist.

Summary: Another Great Fulci Film
Review: Im fast becoming a Fulci fan. Here is one that is close to "The Beyond" in surreal horror. Sadistic, satanic nuns being crucified with the nastiest one to make a return centuries later. You have all the Fulci gore (yes an eyeball or two included) and Lucio himself as the inspector. A+++

Review: Not much of a plot with this one, still great to see someone other than Anchor Bay attempting the Euro-Horror genre. Director "...Lucio Fulci began his career as a screen writer and moved to the directors chair in 1959. His hyper-violent horror films have had a huge following in Italy, Europe and the US. Demonia is one of the last and best films he complete before his death in 1996. Lucio Fulci also directed the hugely popular Beyond (1981) City of the Living Dead (1980) currently available from Anchor Bay." The Plot: While on an archaeological dig in Sicily's Valley of Temples, Toronto professor Malcom Evans and his companion and former student, Liza Harris stumble upon an ancient ruin. The local towns-people wish to keep the secrets of the tomb buried for good. Still somehow with her recurring nightmares Liza seems drawn to the forbidden site, and needs to find out more about the story of the 16th century convent on the hill. Yet all who seem to enter are stricken with bad luck. The gore is traditionally Fulci, with cats attacking a woman who then has her eyeballs ripped out, some crucified nuns, and a man that is split in two. Also look for Fulci in a cameo as an Interpol Agent. I don't usually rave over the color of a DVD, however this one really stood out for me, hopefully that has something to do with the special treatment given by Media-Blasters, who until recently specialized in non-adult anime, and live action Japanese films. Their new off-shoot 'Shriek Show' will cover the Euro-sludge market.

Summary: Fulci asleep at the wheel...
Review: Now, some might disagree here, but Fulci wasn't exactly a great director. Bava blew him away, and Argento came in at a distant 2nd, but Fulci only had like 4 decent films, and those with almost no plots. This film, being part of his many attempts to return to horror, the fact of the matter is, goes limp. All good gore fans saw House, Gates, Zombie and the Beyond, and with good cause, cuz' they're the only semi-watchable films he made. This film had 2 or 3 cool gore scenes, ridiculously overdone, and completely unestablished. There were two shots of nekked nuns which added to the film's quick-scan-ability on DVD, otherwise, not worth a half hour of anybody's time. The plot rots, but the image transfer is great. Trust me, save your dough and buy something with replay value.

Summary: Minor Fulci Effort
Review: Sicily, 1486: A group of angry men convey several nuns to an underground chamber. Here they tie the nuns to crosses, then proceed to crucify them. . . .Canada, 1990: Professor Paul Evans is preparing an archaeological expedition to visit Sicily in search of Greek remains. (The Classical Greeks established several city-states as colonies in Sicily.) One of his graduate students, Liza Harris, who is part of the professor's team, attends a séance and has a strange vision of nuns being crucified. . . . The expedition arrives in Sicily and begins work at a dig site near the coastal village of Santa Rosalaria. Liza wanders off to investigate the ruins of a medieval nunnery overlooking the site. Something in the atmosphere of the ruins seems to disturb her. She eventually finds a passage leading into a series of crypts beneath the nunnery. At the lowest level, she finds'a group of rotting female corpses, affixed by nails to wooden crosses. Deeply puzzled by finding physical remains that match her earlier vision, Liza goes into town and attempts to consult the town records. But she finds that several key passages dating to the late Middle Ages have been removed from the records. A strange woman appears and promises to give Liza the answers she seeks if Liza will visit the woman the next day. When Liza goes to meet the woman, the woman tells here about the old nunnery. The sisters there were really devil worshippers. They lured young men to the nunnery, then killed them during the course of wild orgies. The villagers of Santa Rosalaria finally decided to eradicate the blasphemous evil of the nuns, in the fashion Liza has already seen in her visions'through crucifixion. Meanwhile, several murders linked to a phantom female figure have occurred in and around Santa Rosalaria. The locals are convinced that the archaeologists somehow have released the spirits of the evil nuns. A mob gathers, and sets out for the ruins. Inside, they set fire to the corpses of the nuns. This seems to end the menace'but Liza dies also. Apparently the spirit of the head nun had been possessing her and using her body to commit the murders. Demonia is a slow-paced and unrewarding effort from 'wizard of gore' director Lucio Fulci. The murders are simply an excuse for Fulci's customary gruesome exercises, and the general rationale for the supernatural menace is poorly defined. I was disappointed by this film.

Summary: Not Fulci's Best.
Review: This film is really not Fulci's best work. The storyline is weak and is fairly boring, although there is some worthwhile gore scenes, and of course, lots of ocular trauma. Only if you're a real Fulci fan, would I recommend seeing this movie at least once. Otherwise, I would leave this one on the shelf.

Summary: An underrated Fulci film
Review: This is one of my favorite Lucio Fulci films! For those that are there for gore there are some really great scenes to behold! One scene where a guy gets split in half down the middle! The Story itself was pretty good. the only bad part of the film is like Lucio said is the bad Photography, that and its abit (just a bit!) slow during the begining. Highly reccomended to Fulci fans and fans of killer nun genre! Please note that it may take more then one viewing (like Dario Argento's Inferno) to Appreciate this film so if you don't like it the first time, see it a second time you might be surprised! I also must say because of the review at the top, spouting that the film takes about 40 minutes to get going is abet off, its more like 20 minutes until we see the first murder, unless you count the opening scene of the Nuns paying for what they have done. Also I must point out the pacing the film has which was pretty well done. I mean you want to see the end of this film for its hellofa climax! Just one more thing, the quality of the film was due for two reasons(I'm not talking about the dvd but of the film itself). Being that the production could only afford camera equipment that was something like 30 years old might explain it. Also the fact that Fulci wanted this film to be dreamlike. I still say its one of Fulci's best(not quite up with The Beyond, ZOMBIE, or Don't Torture A Duckling. But the film was well done, and it is one of his best of the late 80's early 90's era) Worthy a look for the Eurohorror fan. Fulci Lives! jak
