Summary: Under-developed plot/characters
Review: I did not have any background with Lodoss prior to this DVD set. The characters were amazingly interesting (esp. the Beserker) but, they were UNDER-DEVELOPED. As new characters joined the group, I patiently waited for them to eventually display their awesome power or to at least contribute to the grand scheme of things, but all their roles were disappointingly minor. I think they were included as a cameo to please fans of the novel. Same goes for the villains, who were very impressive visually, but never really did much. Extremely unsatisfying and frustrating. Most importantly, episode conclusions always took me by surprise, since they did not occur on cliffhangers--it seemed as if not enough had occured to justify a conclusion. This DVD is not recommended for those without prior background with Lodoss. I think it is more meant as a supplement for die-hard fans, because as a stand-alone, it is extremely unsatisfying and leaves many questions.

Good points: Wonderful soundtrack, Great Animation.

Summary: Record of Lodess was a excellent choice for DVD!
Review: I saw this several years ago on a copy of a copy in VHS. It was well done for DVD. I especially love being able to watch it in Japanese with english subtitles. The only way to view this! Well worth the money spent. My only wish is that it had the option for w-i-d-e screen.

Summary: Good Story and Excellent Animation - Worth the Purchase
Review: The Record of the Lodoss War is an earlier japanimation that was re-release onto DVD. This DVD release compiles the entire 13 episodes into one package of two DVDs. The Lodoss War Series is very typically of many japanime with plots within plot stories as well as brilliant animation added to the work. If you like deep plot lines and good animation, Record of The Lodoss War is a must for any collection. I gave it four stars because the story never discloses where the main characters came from in this world. Still the story builds to a climax and with multiple twist and turns throughout the series. I really enjoyed this release.

Summary: Superb. Buy it!!!
Review: This is what a fantasy series should be. The various subplots provide more depth to the characters and make Lodoss the best series I've ever seen. The only complaint was it was too short! 13 episodes is not enough!!

Summary: An excellent value for all fans of anime and/or fantasy!
Review: An absolutely wonderful story. There are quite a few reviews of the story, so I'll focus on the DVD version itself. Mostly, it's great, I just have a couple complaints. First, the subtitles cut out every now and then. Also, there aren't chapter markings just before the opening and ending themes, making it hard to jump straigt to the songs. Finally, the video source was apparently the English dub, as, for example when the bard sings at the dance (which was kept as Japanese in the dub), there are subtitles on the video itself in addition to those on the subtitle track. Still, well worth getting.

Summary: A Fantasy adventure Tolkien would have loved!
Review: If you like RPG games or fantasy, this is an anime for you. A warrior, dwarf, wizard, elf, thief, and cleric gain experience and strengthen their friendship as they battle trolls, kobolds, dragons, evil wizards, dark elves, witches, kings and warriors for the future of the Island of Lodoss.

In the second DVD there is a short feature with interviews from the people involved in this anime. The beginning song is in the first DVD and the ending song is sprinkled about. The languages included are Japanese and English. English subtitles are also available.

Summary: Get this right NOW
Review: Lodoss Wars is just plain awesome, the only thing that ticked me off was that in the later episodes the subtitles won't appear at times, this got to be very annoying. If it wasn't for that I woulda given it 5 stars. Still, don't let that keep you from grabbing this especially at the low price of $40!!

Summary: A great deal
Review: An epic tale between the forces of good and evil. Without a doubt The Lodoss War is one of the best fantasy stories I have ever read or viewed. It is well worth the money. And I can't believe what a deal it is. Only $40 for the entire set.

Hoooray for DVD!!!!
