Summary: One of the best
Review: Where else can you find action, comedy, and just a little self mockery? This is an anime about mecha pilots who watch anime about mecha pilots! The captain of the Nadesico has a crush on the cook, the cook spends half his time piloting mecha--with inadequate training, the first mate has a crush the captain, etc.This is a crazy, fun, anime that employs all the best elements of any good series. It's both serious and comedic, and has a riveting plot line. A good buy any day.

Summary: Danger Zones has Love, Action, and a Polar Bear...
Review: The 3rd DVD of Nadesico is the best so far. The love triangle between the communications officer, captain, and Akito gets even more complicated as Akito isn't sure who he likes yet. To further complicate things, they find a strange woman who seems to have it in for our fickle pilot also. There are more Gekigangar scenes that are really cool (and seem pretty familiar to their own situation). Also, the Jovians come out with cool new weapons that are even matches with the aestivalis and even the nadesico itself. This leads to some really neat combat scenes, but the bad part is that if they fail, the world may be destroyed. There's even a funny song in there. Hope they can act like a team to get the job done. The DVD ends with the coolest filler episode about the nadesico's computer. It has the best SD scenes with Akito flying about in the computer, but this time his enemy is his greatest love. That's right, Gekigangar! What will he do now? This is the best DVD video so far in the nadesico series. It has everything. And as for the Polar Bear... you'll have to see for yourself. And, as always, Ruri is convinced that all the people on the ship are idiots.

Summary: Too much, too much!
Review: This volume is by far a volume for fan service. First, Megumi drags Akito on a date in the virtual reality room. The setting is a school wear Megumi wears an incredibly short skirt. Before Megumi can start to move on Akito, they're attacked. It was Yurika's fault for this attack happening. The same scenario in the virtual reality room takes place with Yurika in a short skirt. In the end of the episode, Akito ends up comforting Yurika. The next episode is too much. A swimsuit episode, featuring yet another woman after Akito. Except this one wants to die with Akito. Akito ends up being saved by Ryoko and the nut girl is left on the island. One of the greatest gags in the volume was seeing Megumi, Yurika and Ryoko try to cook for Akito to win his affection. This is the most emotional and entising volume yet. A must have.

Summary: The Nadesico goes through some changes
Review: Being badly injured in the last battle, the Nadesico is taking a break by broadcasting a children's TV show on how the Nadesico functions. The Nadesico ends up finding the Crocus, one of the ships sucked into a Chulip on earth. The admiral of the Nadesico goes aboard the Crocus and orders for the Nadesico to go through the Chulip or he will fire at the Nadesico. Just then, the Jovians attack. The Nadesico embarks inside the Chulip while the admiral goes down with the Crocus. The Nadesico arrives on the other end of the Chulip which is right near the earth which is also in the middle of a battle. While Akito, Yurika and Inez are sleeping together in the recreation center, Ruri wakes Yurika up and the Nadesico wins the battle. It took the Chulip 8 months to transport the Nadesico to the other end, so a lot has happened. The Nadesico now agrees to help defend the earth for awhile. The Nadesico docks on the ship known as the Cosmos and recieve a new pilot, Akatski. The five pilots head out to fight the Jovians again and Akito gets lost in space. Yurika and Megumi goes after him, but end up being stuck with Akito lost again. Fortunetely, the Nadesico interveins. This volume was very fast and exciting. The love between Yurika to Akito, Megumi to Akito, Inez to Akito, Jun to Yurika is just too funny. This volume also explains a little more about Akito's past. Its just too good. You have to see this show!

Summary: Things get more complex on the Nadesico
Review: Meet the three new pilots. Ryoko, Hikaru and Izumi. Ryoko is a devoted pilot, Hikaru is a big fan of anime and Izumi is downbeat and very happy/depressing. After escaping earth, the Nadesico picks up these pilots who escaped from the exploding space colony. The three girls are pretty funny and manage to add more spunk to the Nadesico. While the Nadesico makes it way to Mars, Yurika gets stuck with performing funerals for all those who died in the explosion at the space colony. After a massive attack from the Jovians, the Nadesico finally lands on Mars. The only problem is the survivors do not want to go back to earth. So says the designer of the Nadesico, Inez. Inez goes on the ship and explains, but then the Jovians attack. It is revealed that Chulips are actually dimentional tunnels. The Nadesico ends up winning, but ends up killing all the survivors except for Inez. This is a great volume. This volume also propels Megumi's love for Akito, not to mention Yurika's love for him as well. The dub is ok, but I wish ADV would work on the noise level. Other than that, I find this anime very fun, fast and exciting. Pick it up now. You won't be dissapointed.

Review: This is an awesome anime and is definetly worth getting! It has great comedy and some very cool robot fighting scenes. If your an anime fan you should really get this!

Summary: One great, and one so-so episode...
Review: Personally, I thought the first episode on the volume was the best. The second was too cliched for me. The first episode of the volume is extremely entertaining, it's funny, it's exciting, it has tons of action, a strong plot, and some character development, all in one episode. This one great episode easily makes up for the so-so accompanying episode. The second episode isn't a total loss, either, though. Despite the unoriginal plot, there is a bit of character development going on with Ruri, with her actually saying more than "Baka bakka" in the episode. Overall, this is another great Nadesico volume.

Summary: Entertaining As Both A Story and a Parody
Review: ADV Flims markets this series in the US as something like "Japan's Most Popular Anime Series". While being very popular in Japan (and for good reason), it's not even the most popular anime title they've ever brought over - by a long stretch. That's fine, though. Nadesico is a series that doesn't even take itself too seriously. Nadesico blatantly parodies not just mecha-genre anime, but shojo romantic comedy and classic anime of the 1970s and early 80s. It does it with such style, though, that it's terribly easy to forgive its occasional lack of subtlety. The basic premise of the series is that roughly two hundred years in the future, the Earth gets invaded by aliens from somewhere out around Jupiter. After being pushed back to the boundary of Earth, one of the major corporations of the planet decides to retake some of the valuable technology left on Mars. Most of the capable people left have been drafted into the military. Left with the choice between intelligence and stability, they take the former. The series eventually ends up reaching beyond this premise, but for the first four episodes - the first DVD - we see the crew working it's way to Mars and all of the troubles this presents. The action and comedy are fast and the plot definitely follows a "take no prisoners" sort of approach with your attention. ADV has done a decent job with the DVD here. The one continual complaint - I find it a valid one, but many see it as nitpicking - is that much of the on-screen Japanese text has been replaced by English overlays. This does have the advantage not fracturing your attention. However, people like me can sometimes be purists who would rather slow down and watch everything frame-by-frame. This issue should not, however, stop you from buying the DVD. "Nadesico" is a solid, funny series with some very clever parody. ADV should be congratulated for bringing it to the US is not for some of the liberties they've taken with both the advertising and the video itself. I definitely recommend the DVD and the series.

Summary: So much to say, so little space. (So why am I wasting it now
Review: This is volume one, which introduces the viewer to a vast majority of the crew and sets the foundations for the rest of the series. The Earth is at war with another planet. To combat the enemy's limitless robot army the privately funded Nadesico is sent on a research mission, against the wishes of the military. The crew is top notch, if not insane. Nadesico is one of Anime's best. While it is true that much of it is based on cliche, the way it takes cliche to its natural conclusions while mocking the entire process has turned it into one of the most beloved of all anime. Blending comedey, drama, and action together, it succeeds where so many others fail. While the show does tend to become more melodramatic, and admitedly more compelling, towards the later episodes volume one, which contains the first four eps, tends to be more of a mix between comedey and, yes, okay, melodrama. There's a lot of comedey. A lot. The kind that causes millions of geeky anime fans to go ballistic with laughter. Never has simply saying the word "baka" gotten so many laughs. The extras are excellent: the opening and closing videos unfettered by credits, crew bios, and a note from the translator defending his translation of the dialogue, which at times conflicts with fan translations.
