Summary: A good piece in the puzzle
Review: Outlaw Star is just a cool series, hand down. Assuming you have seen Vol 1, this set seems to just be a bunch of mismatched episodes, but if you go further and watch Vol. 3, it all ties in. I have not been disappointed in this series and this volume, while seemingly not-as-relevant, is fun to watch. The Seven Emerge is pretty cool in a dark kind of way ... while The Strongest Woman in the Universe is truly hilarious. Learn more about Gene and Jim and their travels with Melfina, Aisha, and Suzuka.

Summary: The outlaw star is shining
Review: This DVD is a must have for any outlaw star fan. One of the main reasons I like this series on DVD is because they pack 9 episodes in one package. Coming from someone who had to suffer through purchasing all 8 evangelion dvd's this way was a god send. The animation and sound get a good boost because of the digital quality, but I just love to view it in it's best form. Also I love cartoon network, but they love cutting out seens that in my opinion help develop the characters and story. This series has everything from extreme action to the cutsey romance stuff, and Aisha Clan Clan shown on the cover is all the comedy you need. If all you've seen of this series is the cartoon network version I urge you to check this out. Its also a good anime for amatuer otaku (anime freaks) who just now realize other anime exist beside Dragonball Z and Pokemon.(There cool too of course). Not too bloody and not too kiddie this is an adventure series for all ages

Summary: Great value on quality show
Review: This is the second Outlaw Star DVD set. It's two discs, containing 9 episodes (10 - 18); mine came in a slimline case the size of a regular case, but some come in a double size case. Outlaw Star is a well-done, if not thoroughly original, science fiction/action show. The basic premise, as set up in the first disc set, has Gene Starwind end up with a highly advanced starship, the Outlaw Star, which is controlled by an artificial girl named Melfina. The pirates who built the ship and a pair named the McDougal brothers, hired to destroy it, are after him.

These episodes vary in quality. Some are individual and episodic; others tie into the main plotline, which involves the purpose for building the ship and creating Melfina. There is one bad episode here--the story is poor, the characters go off-model (they are drawn incorrectly), and the animation has corners cut all over the place--but the rest are of at least fair quality. If you liked the more humorous parts of the show from the first disc set, my two favorite episodes of the series so far are on this set. It's not perfect, but it is a good deal and a good show (doesn't every show vary in quality to some degree?). There is a continuing story, so you should start with the first set, not this one.

Summary: Outlaw Star (a must for Anime fans)
Review: This Review Can be seen for the Outlaw Star Dvd collection 1-3. I am writing a review for the WHOLE series.

Outlaw Star tells the tale of Gene Starwind and Jim Hawking. Who inevitably end up leaving there home planet and getting caught up in a race for the Galactic Layline. On there way they will meet lots of friends and enemies such as Melfina, the McDougal Bros., Aisha Clan Clan of the Ctarl Ctarl, Sazukie Twilight and a whole bunch more in this action series from bandai that keeps you laughing while it delivers great action. What is the Galactic Layline? Well people say that at the Galatic Layline can be found a great treasure. But if you wanna know more you'll have to get the dvd's (or the tapes). Outlaw Star can also be seen on the Cartoon Networks Toonami (although they cut a bit). Anyway I hope this review was helpful. Be sure to check out my review of the Outlaw Star spinoff, Angel Links.

Summary: More Creatures, More Information, and LOTS More Action!
Review: This second installment of the Outlaw Star DVD collection is teemed with tons of action, humor, and more information about the main plot of the series. I personally am very happy that each DVD collection has 9 episodes per package, which saves you the trouble of buying a lot of DVD's to get the whole series(this way, unlike the videos, once you have all 3 DVDs your done), even though the price per DVD is raised a little more than your average anime DVD. These great episodes introduce you to the full universe of Outlaw Star, the great Space Race, the treacherous McDougell Brothers, the various aliens of the universe, the murderous Anten Seven(mercinaries of Hazanko, a powerful pirate leader), and the hilarious 'Strongest Woman in the Galaxy' tournament(just as a little teaser, Gene has an odd part to play in this). With all these wonderful episodes, you can't miss when you buy the Outlaw Star Collection 2 DVD. Never mind the price--it's worth every cent!

Summary: The Story Starts to Sag, Bigtime
Review: To be blunt, 'Outlaw Star' is not a particularly brilliant show. It handles the "space cowboys" theme with no small amount of cliches and stolen plot lines. The exotic variety of radically characters (some of whom wield religious magic) is nothing we haven't seen in a dozen Capcom fighting games. Worst of all, sometimes the errors in space science are so glaring you wonder if the writers even have a single brain cell.

Nonetheless, the first DVD had enough new ideas, humor, and downright cool stuff that the show was fairly entertaining. Brainless, but still very entertaining.

I can't say the same about the second DVD set. Its like being on an artistic rollercoaster ride: There are long stretches of pointless and mostly asinine plots punctuated by moments of high drama and artistic beauty.

Melfia (surprisingly) steals the show. The best scenes on in the collection surround her search for identity, her conflict with Harry MacDougal, and the sexual tension between her and Gene.

Unfortunately, that's about it. Everything else is silly, pointless, and at times downright nonsensical. The worst offenders are the episodes with the bug, the wrestling contest, and the search for sunken treasure. None of them have anything to do with the overall plot; they are merely side adventures included to stretch the series out a little longer.

The animation also takes a nose dive. There is so little movement in this series that sometimes it feels like you're watching a Macromedia 'Flash' movie. There are a few moments of startlingly fluid motion and cinematography, but they are too few and far between.

I suppose that has to be the bottom line for this installment of the 'Outlaw Star' series: You'll find a few moments of brilliant storytelling dragged down by several hours of generic, asinine, garbage. If the series' length was cut in half, it would be one of the best shows on either side of the Pacific, but instead it just drags on, just below average.
