Summary: A must have!
Review: I saw the movie a year ago in the Fantasia festival (Montreal) and since I looked forward to own it on Dvd. Simply one of the greatest anime I've seen. A must have. It's a instant classic with Akira, Ghost In A shell, Ninja Scroll and Perfect Blue. Great graphic,Good music and powerful sound effects! It's a nice remake of the red riding hood in a twisted japan future...

Summary: Jin Roh, It's Grrrreat!
Review: I saw the movie at Ai-Kon 2001 Anime Convention. I am very impressed with the amount of animation and the storytelling. If you heard of the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, this is a great version of it...

Summary: A True MasterPiece
Review: By watching this movie, I feel I have been part of a Anime Film History.

This film amazingly uses one of the most well known story in the world to describe one human's darkest struggle with his animal instinct and human emotion.

A truely masterpiece scripted by the director of Ghost in the Shell and Patlabor 2: The Movie.

Summary: The Best Anime of the new millenium so far....
Review: I just saw this film in theaters. It has got to be the most emotional film that got to me since perhaps Schindler's List. JIN-ROH, THE WOLF BRIGADE could maybe be described as a "politico-military love tragedy thriller". Produced by the renowned studio Production I.G., with a script by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell), this is a very strong debut for young director Hiroyuki Okiura.

This film looks incredible from beginning to end. Unfortunately, this may be the last anime movie to be done using hardly any computer assistance. The anime employs over 80,000 hand-painted cells and has taken 3 years to make. The character designs are excellent and individualistic(characters actually look Japanese. No large eyes to be found). There is great attention to detail in the movements of the people and objects on screen. Everything moves realistically down to the last motion. I also liked the dark and muted color scheme. There were many instances where I could question if I was watching animation or not. In fact, I think this movie looks more realistic than the real world.

The sound is excellent. There is sound everywhere in this film from the murky and creepy sounds of the tunnels to the chirping birds flying through the town. The guns used by the Panzers sound *powerful*, the cars cough, and the trees rustle. Like the animation, everything is done down to the last detail.

The music is written by Hajime Mizuguchi (Please Save My Earth/Vision of Escaflowne) which is melancholic, eerie and beautiful. It fits the film perfectly. I only wish that there was more of it since the film doesn't have much music in it. Everything is well composed and creates the perfect atmosphere for the scene it's in. I own the OST myself and listen to it almost everyday. The one track that I know will stick in your head is the ending theme which was composed by Yoko Kanno (Macross Plus/Vision of Excaflowne). The ending theme brought me to tears the first time I heard it in the movie (which I'd like to note is sung by Gabrielle Robin). I highly recommend that you buy the soundtrack.

All of the Japanese voice actors voices fit perfectly and every voice expresses the character's emotions. From the cold and serious voice of Fuse to the quiet and sincere voice of Kei, this film delivers some great voice acting.

The version of the film I saw in theaters was English dubbed but it was done carefully and each of the voices fit the characters excellently.

Jin-roh tells a dark tale, of the tragedy of the failure of the human spirit. The way out seems to be there, but is it? The fairy tale must reach its ending. A wolf is still a wolf even if for a while he can masquerade as a man. Hopefully this movie will be released soon in the US so more people can experience it strange and dark beauty.

Summary: Simply amazing
Review: I've been a fan of animated films for years and Jin-roh is arguably the best I've seen. The art is clean and stylish, yet conveys great realism. The animation is fluid and the character/weapon designs are exquisite. All the above qualities describe many quality Japanese animation films such as Spriggan and Koukaku Kidoutai (Ghost in the Shell), but what makes Jin-roh truly exceptional is the complex storyline, which gives the classic tale of red riding hood a modern interpretation. With the theatrical release in US, hopefully this film can make more US audience understand the beauty of anime and set new standards of domestic animations...

Summary: Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
Review: Wow. This is probably the best looking animated film I've seen. (I haven't seen Akira in a long time, so it's difficult to make the comparison, but Jin-Roh is just as good, if not better.) The characters and the backgrounds look utterly realistic and the movements are extremely smooth. And those CAPO soldiers! Man, I still get the chills down my spine thinking about those red eyes... As with most Japanimation though, the overly convoluted plot made it less enjoyable. I absolutely loved the intro and the action scenes, but the middle of the movie was slow and a little hard to follow. Oh, the version that's playing in the theaters now is dubbed in English, if you are fussy about things like that.

Summary: DVD Review
Review: I bought this DVD knowing it was an old title. However, I am a fan of GIS and so I figured Jin-Roh would be as graphically enticing. For the most part it was. However, I was completely dissappointed by the video to digital transfer. Being a Bandai DVD I would have hoped for a little bit better quality. For the most part Anime distribution in Japan is monopolistic to Bandai Visual / Emotion. So when I pleasingly saw the Bandai/Emotion symbol on the cover, I figured the quality of the DVD to be similar to other region 2 dvds they carry. It was just a video transfer. The only other DVD I have purchased that is similar in quality would be the Macross Plus Movie Edition. Although Jin-Roh does have dual language tracks and subtitle options, I was still hoping it to be more like GIS. But either way, being an anime fan, I will proudly add this movie feature to my collection.

Summary: What Happened?
Review: Opened great and then went nowhere. So slow. The animation is quite lovely but there was no real movement to the proceedings. I really hate to say it but most of what I have seen by Mamoru Oshii I haven't liked all that much. He seems to be a guy with some great ideas here and there (and a few repetitive ones) who doesn't really know how to make them work as a whole. I absolutely hated that live action film he did "Avalon." Ghost in the shell was okay. Haven't seen the new one yet though. Anyway, don't believe the hype where this film is concerned.

Summary: a great work of art
Review: in a different japan ,where the society didn't react calmly to the economic growth that followed the defeat in world war two.we see both ,the society and government ,taking up extremism to solves their differences.and two individuals who got caught between them.
directed by Hiroyoki okiura-a key animator in ghost in the shell-and written by mamoru oshii, who took the original ,and more bloody version of the grimm's fairy tale rotkappchen-little red riding hood- as a background theme to this story of political rivalry, deception and love.
this anime film is a great work of art.watching this anime feels like walking in an art gallery .you get confident animation, various and pleasing use of colors with a realistic depection of gun fights and action.

if your looking for another ninja scroll, then this is not your movie.

if you want to add a great anime to your collection, then what are you waiting for? buy it.

p.s. no making of video in this dvd.

Summary: great animation wasted on lifetime channel style story plot
Review: The story plot is hum drum and geared very much like a movie script written for an actual lifetime channel movie as opposed to a more apropriately written script .Just wasted talent on a drab script .The two main characters being a man and woman roam around town trying to deal with depression they have over the loss of a rebel girl .Dialect is spearce in this movie .At least it has alot of gun fire but even that display is a bit drab .Great animation work which is why I rated it a three .
