Review: ....THIS SERIES WAS THE BEST!!! I RECOMEND THIS TO ANY FANSASTY VAMPIRE FAN!!! And if you are a yaoi fan this is for you.... there is only 13 eposides but they are all great. Trust me...get this anime.

Review: Erm... First off, his name is HISOKA. ^^
Secondly, this series is an amazing one. Sadly, I do not believe there is a sequal. If you're a die hard fan, I suggest watching the subbed version, as the Japanese vocal work is considerably more enjoyable than that of the English version. (This is my opinion, and is shared by many fans I've talked to...)
As mentioned in the "review" (which as another reader gripped before, is essentially a spoiler), homosexuality is implied. Whether it limited to the twisted 40 year old rapist/murderer Muraki, depends on the viewer's interpretation. To shounen-ai fans, it seems quite obvious there is an underlying "something" between Hisoka and Tsuzuki. But this could be just as readily taken as a strong platonic partnership between the two. So if you're looking for frequent make-out scenes between two guys, might I suggest a little series called "Gravitation?" ^^

Review: I actually have only seen the first three DVD's, and was planning on watching the fourth one as soon as possible. And I love the series for as far as I've seen. I was actually just looking at the Editorial 'Review' to see which of the DVD's it was, because I can't ever remember how many there are or which one is which. And, most unfortunately for me, that 'review' was NOT a review at all, but a synopsis. Also more commonly known as a SPOILER. Now, I've just lost the entire element of suspense for the end of an AWESOME series! ...Anyways, all griping against the reviewer aside, this really is an awesome series and I can't wait to see the last DVD - even after reading that spoiler. So buy it...

Summary: Dub Makes My Teeth Grind
Review: While I enjoy the stories of DoD, this one left me scratching my head a little. I got the gist of it, but it seemed that we were given a vague background information, not enough and not anything specific. (SPOILER: who ARE all those people Tsuzuki is supposed to have killed for instance? How did he know about his heritage? Um--and about Muraki's various motivations...could 'ja let us in on who that was that took care of your brother for us, doc? And it would be helpful to know WHY you want to go to all that trouble AGAIN.) Of course, I haven't read the books yet, but even so, shouldn't this be evident from watching the movie?
My second plaint involves the entire series: it's those consarned english and american voice actors! Their voices make my ears bleed, especially the two doing Hisoka and Muraki. I know Hisoka is world weary, but he's still a kid, for crying out loud. His voice actor sounds old enough to be his father, or at least a much older brother. Muraki sounds petulant and snotty rather than insane and evil. Thus I tend to watch with the Japanese sound track and the subtitles. Even those are translated into such unnatural, convoluted English as to make my eyes cross. In V.1 for instance, Muraki says something in reaction to being blasted by Sazuka's fire and the translation is "How impertinent!" Now, that may be what the exact translation of the Japanese is, but instead of sounding angry and menacing it sounds just plain silly. (And, since the voice actors speak this godawful translation, it sounds even sillier in their painful voices.)
I give it a 4 for art and story, but have to knock off a star for those godawful voices!
