The war between the Federal Forces of Earth and the space-based Zeon regime reaches a dramatic conclusion in the two-part episode "Shuddering Mountain." Shiro and Aina defy both the corrupt Federal commanders and Aina's maniacal brother Ginias, using Shiro's damaged Gundam to destroy the Zeon mobile fortress, the Apsalus, in battle scenes that are well staged and exciting. In a curious coda, Michel and Kiki search for their lost commander amid the ruined hulks of the war machines--and find the child survivors of a Zeon medical experiment. This emotional resolution is markedly different in tone from the rah-rah victories in conventional mecha series and makes 08th MS Team an unusually satisfying adventure.
