Picture is ok but blurred. Episode three has a rather bad transfer fault, or the source master tape was in that condition. It looks like taken from an 80s VHS cassette. But never mind, at least there are no remastering faults like in Rhino's first season boxset!SOUND QUALITY (4/5 STARS)
Original stereo soundtrack - unchanged - no flaws but a bit flat naturally. EXTRAS (1/5 STARS)

"The Ultimate Doom" 3-part story takes place in the first season of The Transformers from 1984. Don't know whether this episode was the best to be chosen for a test release or not. It's not one of my favourite episodes.
A am a huge fan of Transformers. My life wouldn't be the same without The Transformers... WHY DID THEY CANCEL THE SERIES!!!

Summary: It's nice to have them on a disc, but...
Review: The picture quality is that of a VHS tape. If I wanted VHS quality on a disc, I would have burned my own VCD. No retouched video, no fixing the occasional mis-coloring (i.e. the Autobot Symbol turning puple or Transformers being mis-colored), no extras.... nothing... On a side note... I also bought the Heroes (Rebirth 1-3) DVD and it contained the same 3 episodes as this disc (the label on the disc does read Heroes). I wrote a review on here about it... but did anyone else have that problem?

Summary: I know this is made for kids, but why the kid's portion?
Review: The show is great and it's great it's coming to dvd but why is it being dished out like this in tiny bits! I'm sure everyone else would much prefer it if the first two dvds were the whole of the first series 8 episodes on one, and the other 8 on the other... because who wants to have to keep changing discs? A dvd is capable of holding 266 minutes on 1 side of a disc(dual-layer) 8 22 minute episodes add up to just 176 minutes leaving plenty of room for extras such as adverts! also if the show was split up into 10 8-episode discs and 2 9-episode discs, it could be released in a cool correctly-ordered 12 disc box set which I'm sure would appeal to fans much more than episodes scattered all around the place. Also I'm sure that most people would prefer the choice of seeing the episodes as they originally were(abridged), with the intro, recap, advert break animations & the credits (The X-Men Phoenyx dvd as an example of an abridged version, Good One!) rather than a pasted together like a movie unabridged version. Although, why can't we have both, anyone who has got the fantastic Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition knows that with that you have the choice of having extras scenes inserted in without a whole new movie in there, if they can do it in that, why not other dvds? As I thik of it they could stick the adverts on the disc, with all the rest and maybe you should be able to choose to see the toy adverts as a replacement for the original advert breaks! I'm going to wait to buy my Transformers DVD till it is done in an organised fasion.

Review: The Ultimate Doom is one of the Best 3-part Transformers episodes of the whole series. This is one of the good episodes of season 1 of the American Transformers series. Megatron has made a compromise with an Evil Scientist, Dr. Archiville to control the minds of human beings using a microchip called Hpno-chip control. He and Megatron uses the mind controled human beings to steal energy knowing that the Autobots can't attack or hurt humans. One of the first human beings chosen for this plot is Spakplug Witwicky, Spike Witwicky's father, using him and making him do evil deeds for the Decepticons. If that wasn't worst of Megatron's scheme's this is. He has found a way to bring the Home planet of Cybertron into Earth's orbit using the spacebridge. Cybertron's orbit around Earth creates earthquakes, tital waves, and thunderstorms that Megtron uses to make energy. He uses the mind controled slaves to help him make energon cubes. Can Optimus Prime and the Autobots stop Megatron from controling the humans and from bringing Cyberton to Earth harnessing Earth's natural Resources? Find out. Buy the video and DVD to see what happens! This video/DVD also has an incredible fight scene between the Autobot Skyfire and the Decepticon Shockwave! A must see!

Summary: Not worth the effort!
Review: This is a HUGE dissapointment! I cannot believe Rhino is butchering the Transformers series like this! I just picked up the first installment of the ROBOTECH DVDs (vols 1 and 2) and I respect what they've done, obviously these people took the DVD edition very seriously and were thinking about the fans and the preservation of this 80s classic when they put this together; the episodes are all in order, there's 6 episodes per volume AND they've done a neat box set with some cool extras, all for an excellent price as well. Quite the opposite for TRANSFORMERS, I hate what Rhino has been doing, and I honestly think they would have been better off not releasing any DVDs at all! I'd much rather keep the TF bootleg video collection I got with every episode in oder and all of them G1 instead of mixing all of it like a cocktail with this so called "official" releases, seems to me bootleggers have a better idea on how to please the fans. And what the hell is Galvatron doing on the cover of this particular volume anyway??? It's time to take animation a little bit more serious! Thanks but no thanks Rhino, if you wanna do something do it right or don't do it at all!!

Review: Three episodes (3-parter) of the first season. No extras, average picture quality but better than VHS. Sound is very good quality, Dolby 5.1 remix but without disappointing special effects! I love it - think of buying the whole boxset!

Review: Transformers: Villains is a.k.a. "The Ultimate Doom," a three-part story arc from Season 1 of the classic Transformers cartoon series of the 1980s. Megatron and the treacherous Decepticons join forces with the arch evil scientist Dr. Archevil (Get it?). With the help of hypnotized humans, the robotic planet Cybertron is transported into Earth's orbit, upsetting the stability of the univserse. It's up to Optimus and company to set the worlds in balance once again. The rating of three stars is based on nostalgia. Objectively, the production on this DVD is subpar. Rhino made a few goofs on the packaging, which have been adequately detailed in other reviews. Special features on this DVD include the following: Chapter Selection......(yes, that's all). The picture and sound quality are merely satisfactory. While it is exciting to have Transformers preserved in digital format, there is good room for improvement. Rhino is capable of high quality work (see "Transformers The Movie" DVD); hopefully future releases will be more effective.
