Review: Cyberpunk Babes in Battle-Armor! Take Bladerunner, cyberpunk it, throw in a few (litterally) killer babes, some bad attitude cyborgs, a run-a-way meglomaniac corperation, Mega Tokyo as your battlefield/playground, and finally top the whole thing off with an array of rock music, and battle mecha, and you have BGC at its finest! Now, just for good measure, throw the whole thing on 3 DVD discs for crystal clear images, and optional extra's, and you are left with a true classic that will last a lifetime! Or at least until the next technological advance in video media comes along.

Summary: great collection, plus a comment about the packaging
Review: Firstly, I think the content of the collection is great. I did have one small problem with the subtitles disappearing for a minute or two, but nothing that couldn't be ignored. The characters in BGC are refreshingly unique and each has her own storyline throughout the episodes. One tends to get lost in the first couple episodes until you figure out what is going on, but after that it is really easy to get into. The dvds also allow you to choose sub vs. dub, which is a great feature for those who can't make up their minds. That said: like others, I was unimpressed with the big box they put the jewel cased dvds in. I'm pretty picky about everything fitting in nicely. However, I discovered you can buy just the character-decorated clasp cases - identical to the ones the non-collection dvd versions have - at multimedia 2000's site (and ONLY there, which is why I am mentioning it), so for all of you who are considering not buying it because of the packaging, my suggestion is buy this collection here, grab the clasp cases separately, and you will have one great dvd set! Highly recommended!

Summary: BGC - - A prerequisite for anime fandom.
Review: Having been a fan of BGC since 1994, I was overjoyed when I heard this was coming out. To me, BGC remains one of the standbys of modern anime fare. We have all the right stuff: likeable and striking characters, a gothic cyberpunk setting, hardcore mecha combat action, and ....well, J-pop idol music. It's not as silly as it sounds, either. Most importantly, the storylines touch the heart as well as thill the senses. We have plots motivated by revenge, bitterness, sorrow, the desire for justice and obsession. They make a lasting impression even in today's age of CGI-enhanced animation. I will agree with my fellow reviewers: the packaging was just silly. It was on my software store's shelf for weeks before I realized it was a DVD set and not one of those jukeboxes. Also, I will warn others that the subtitling is embarassingly out of sync in places on disc 2. Still, with these meager flaws, this is a set that no sci-fi enthusiast can be without.

Review: I have to express my agreement with the reviewer from Orlando. The content of the DVD's is excellent, but I'm at a loss to understand why they chose to package the product in such a ludicrous box. I assume some marketing type thought that the package would make the product stand out on a shelf. As the consumer, I don't want a package that doesn't fit in neatly with the rest of my collection. Stick with the standard package and let the product sell itself. BGC certainly doesn't need any marketing gimmicks to help it along.

Summary: Anime chicks fight in slightly confusing Anime style
Review: I like this, it isn't the greatest Anime out there but it is good. the picture quality is pretty good considering the age of the films.There are the usual translation problems and drop you in at the deep end stuff like most Anime. Like what is a Boomer, why isn't the background for Silvia Stingray explained better. Also some of the episodes seem like fillers, the car one for instance. They only seem to establish Pris and Sylvia as characters leaving the other two until the last couple of episodes. They also introduce main characters on a whim expecting us to care when they die, they don't seem to establish relationships between them and the Night Sabres. You may get the impression i didn't like this but i thought it was good Anime. Like a Jackie Chan film you forgive these sort of things in Anime because it just doesn't seem to matter.

Review: I love anime. My advice to you is if you do buy this suite, only watch the last two DVD's and skip through the weak-@ss music scenes. The animation is awesome but the voices aren't very good. This is a decent title but it's not my style. I recommend Lain, ghost in the shell, DBZ, and anything on cartoon network even though it's edited and not subtitled.

Summary: Definitely Worth It All
Review: I picked it up shortly after it was released, even though it took ages for it to arrive through hang ups for the ordered company (Will not mention through extreme dislike, though it wasn't Amazon, to reassure). And it also happened to be among the first DVD's I ordered. I have to say that it's probably some of the best anime I've seen so far, only coming close to being beaten by the other set I have, Tenchi Muyo, and the set I want to get, Macross Plus.

Summary: Good quality anime only let down by the packaging
Review: I remember when the first videos of Bubblegum Crisis were released costing $20 a shot which I always thought were extremely expensive for what can amount to just a half hour video. Now we can get the whole lot on DVD for a fraction of the price. Bubblegum Crisis proved to be a very popular anime both here and in Japan with its Bladerunner-esque backdrops and mood. You can even tell that some things were copied from Bladerunner - for example the character name, Priss and her group, The Replicants. Hmmm! However, this does not fault what is an excellently rendered anime. Sonada Kenichi's mecha and character designs are superb (for more from the same character designer try Gunsmith Cats, Riding Bean, or Gall Force). The characters are very strong, the plot lines equally as good with some questions left up in the air - are Celia and Mackie boomers themselves? I would say that the only let down is that the DVDs could have had more on them. The music videos added as a bonus only consist of four videos. What happened to the two Hurricane Live videos? Why weren't they both included as well? Needless to say that was a little disappointing. Another disappointment was that right at the end of the last DVD, you get a snippit of the live performance by the voice actresses concerts, and yet it is cut off half way through. I won't even start to mention the cardboard box packaging...I think everyone else has just about summed that up. Gripes aside though, this is still an excellent sci-fi anime with hard-suited strong female characters, a wealth of equally strong supporting characters and some truly evil bad guys. Definitely worth watching.
