Summary: The Superior
Review: Char's Counterattack is simply the best Gundam feature of all time. The battles particularly are breathtaking. As other reviewers have said, the two kids are annoying as heck. And you do need to see the original series or movies to understand the conflict between Amuro and Char. But for those of us who love giant robo action, this is the holy grail of anime. I've waited ten years to get this on DVD, and I am not dissapointed. The included booklet is very well done and is a nice extra. The reversible cover is also slick. The music is remastered in both Japanese and English 5.1 Dolby, and it is better than the laserdisc version.

Summary: Dissapointing...and confusing!
Review: I waited with such high anticipation for this movie to finally be released in the US because I had heard numerous comments on how great it was supposed to be. Now, after finally seeing it for myself, I regret ever spending my money on it. First of all, the story was pretty lame, not to mention the characters (except Char & Amuro). That annoying Quess brat was the absolute worst! I'd say the best thing about it were the fights, but alot of times the action was so fast it was confusing. The worst part was the ending! I just didn't get what the heck happened with Char and Amuro! I expected a much more climatic ending to the rivalry between the two Newtype warriors. So in short, I can't say that I enjoyed this one much. I love Gundam, and I honestly think this is the worst of all the Gundam titles I've seen so far. The three original MS Gundam movies are much better in my opinion, even though the animation isn't as good. I recommend any of the other Gundam titles over this one, especially Wing or 8th MS team.

Summary: Satisfying; gorgeous battles; lots of fun
Review: Bust open a six-pack and invite over your anime-nerd friends! This 1988 movie is one of the better installments of Gundam's epic 'Universal Century' storyline, which is the continuity that began with the original series, _Mobile Suit Gundam_ (1979). (The widely-exposed series _Gundam Wing_ on Cartoon Network is an alternate storyline that has no connection to the Universal Century shows. Wing is not without its charms, but older fans like me tend to regard the deadlier, more adult UC shows as "real" Gundam.) Char's Counterattack memorably ends the main story arc of the conflict between Earth and the colonies, and between hero Amuro Ray and "villain" Char Aznable. The animation looks great and the cinematography is quite spectacular, particularly for the time. The familiar Gundam characters (Amuro, Char, Bright) are all shown to good effect here. For American audiences it's a nice change to watch the seasoned, tough, 29-year-old Lt. Amuro piloting the Gundam in this flick, instead of the neophyte teenage heroes in many of the other installments. That reminds me, this movie's mobile suit designs are personal favorites. Very sleek and stylish, but somewhat more restrained than the ridiculously flanged-out, semi-whorish transformable designs in the previous series, _Gundam ZZ_ (1986-7). Love that RX-93 Nu Gundam, and Char's red Sazabi. I remember when I was a teenaged fanboy in the late 80s and early 90s, scrambling through obscure non-English-language catalogs to find something, anything relating to the "new full length Gundam movie about Char!" that I had heard was out in Japan. Hard to believe I now have it on DVD with subtitles. (By the way, the Japanese voice actors are much better. I would recommend going with the Japanese audio + subtitles even if you don't speak Japanese, as I don't.) So why only four stars for this movie, which is like a Fourth of July fireworks show for Gundam geeks? Well, mainly due to the character Quess Paraya. She is annoying, and she features too prominently in several of the movie's subplots. C'mon. If they're going to have half the male characters in the movie going out of their way to impress a female character, they should at least make her an actual bombshell, preferably with an interesting personality. Someone like the haunting Four Murasame, from 1985's Zeta Gundam, in my view the best Gundam series ever.

Summary: Terrible characters can't overcome the action
Review: One of the worst Gundam movies I've ever seen due to the ridiculous characterisation. The hero and the archenemy bickering like former lovers (possible hidden plot twist there), the very annoying, spoiled Quess Paraya and the improbable Hathaway Bright losing it at the end all spoiled it for me despite the lush robot battle porn. One more reason why 08th MS Shotai and 0083 are far superior. Hopefully, when Z or ZZ Gundam inevitably comes out. . .

Summary: Great End to a Saga!
Review: This movie takes place in the year UC 0093. Amuro's great nemisis, Char, has taken control of not only an asteroid, but Luna 2 as well, which decides are a befitting end to humanity on Earth. Amuro must go up against him once more in an almost 2 hour movie, filled with some of the best action you'll find in any gundam series, especially with his awesome Nu Gundam. Totally new... mobile suits battle to reveal the truths and secrets not explored in the original Gundam Mobile Suit. This is a must for any gundam fan, and I strongly recommend viewing it in Japanese, for the character Quess's voice got on my nerves. However, she's meant to be the pest in the movie, so either way it's great. Trust me, you wont regret buying this movie!

Summary: You haven't seen Gundam until you see this
Review: This is easily the best part of the Gundam saga. The battles alone are worth buying the movie. The story, though, will keep you riveted to your seat. All 2 hours and 4 min of it. The dub rivals that of the 08th MS Team (yes, I listen to the dub. I find it easier to focus on the action, and the story than reading what the characters are saying and keeping up). If you think Gundam is ALL politics you've been watching too much Gundam Wing. This isn't "I'll double cross you then triple cross the other guy then double cross him and proceed to double cross you once I'm back on your side." This is Gundam as it should be. No kids piloting mobile suits here (I can never figure out how they do it). Well, that is if you don't count Quess and Hathaway. But either way they stumble into it, so it really doesn't count. The mecha designs are superb. They're about equal to Endless Waltz (that Gundam Wing I understood because I didn't have to worry about missing an episode and getting totally messed up). Still aren't convinced? Hmmm. Just go pay the money and get yourself a movie that is worth every cent. Or miss out on something that is one of the greatest epics of our time. IF you do like this as much as I do check out the following: Mobile Fighter G Gundam (it's on Cartoon Network every day), Mobile Suit Gundam, 08th MS Team, 0083 Stardust Memory, Pilot Candidate (it's really good for a laugh and intresting as well), and something called Outlaw Star. Summary: One of the best anime films out there finally reaches DVD!
Review: This movie is quite simply amazing. The story of the final battle between Amuro and Char is one of the best stories ever told. This movie manages to capture the tragedy of these two men, but also manages to maintain a true sense of hope when it concludes. It's great to see this phenemonal movie on DVD. Let's just hope that Bandai brings Zeta Gundam and Double Zeta Gundam to us soon, and of course the other chapters in the Universal Century Saga (Gundam F91 and Victory Gundam).

Summary: The last great Gundam Movie
Review: Well, after owning a Betamax copy since it was released back in the late 1980's, and a copy of laser disc. It's time to own the ultimate copy on DVD. I watched this movie for the 50th time (Literally) during this year's Anime Expo, I must say, it just gets better every time. Char and Amuro's final battle after the Gundam 0079 and Zeta Gundam Series truely expressed the origin of the the story; this is truely Mr. Tomino's greatest Gundam film ever, and the last "TRUE" Gundam film. Evey Gundam fan must own a copy!!! By the way, I met Mr. Tomino during 1992 Anime Expo, he's a wonderful man:) Vance

Review: Char's Counterattack is a masterpiece of anime, considering the age of the animation in it. It serves as the conclusion for Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. The characters and mecha are well made, and the ending is unbelievable. Can't tell you what it is, you have to find out. See it!

Review: I Own the import version of this movie and i must say it is the best of the six Gundam movies. Anyone who enjoyed Mobile Suit Gundam or any of the side-stories(08th MS,0080,0083)Will love this movie, It has a great story, Awesome Mobile Suits And huge battles that rival Gundam 0083s. This movie is highly recomended to all fans of anime.
