Summary: study, study, study, study, study, study, study, study!!
Review: Both volumes of Goldenboy are absolutely hilarious! If you like ["off"]humor, this will definately become one of your favorites. I feel that the movie is best watched in its original Japanese language with English subtitles so that you can truely enjoy the sounds and expressions of Kintaro Oe. I would have to say that episode 5 was by far the funniest!

Summary: Goldenboy = Gold
Review: Goldenboy is anime comedy at its best. A hint of hentai (perverse themes), a hint of Japanese education, and a hint of everything that can go wrong when you're new at something.
Always a pleasure to watch Kintaro Oe and his blunuderous misadventures.
As far as the dvd goes, it's excellent. The quality is never arguable and the detail of the menus are always drawing attention; plus, the fact that Japanese and Chinese languages can be heard/selected is always an upper (and it's usually mandatory in anime dvd's).
Thumbs up for the golden glory!

Summary: Golden Boy wins Oscar for Best Goofy Anime
Review: Kintaro Oe starts out each day lusting after a different girl. All girls he seeks want nothing to do with him until the episode is almost over. That is when Kintaro makes his exist with the girls desperately wanting him. Golden Boy is an original anime. It mixes sexual themes with education. Yes, you actually can learn something by watching these cartoons. Kintaro may be a pervert but he seeks education which makes for a pretty entertaining and highly humorous anime. A+ for Golden Boy.

Summary: The lusty, righteous hero continues ...
Review: Through each episode you see a different angle on the nature of a young man with passion for life, work and women. The viewer is also treated to a different angle of life in Japan with each installment. Episode 4 takes Kintaro from the freezing Tokyo winter into a warm indoor swimming school where he faces the fridgid heart of an Olympic swimmer who has no time in her life for anything other then her athletic prowess. The underdog Kintaro undergoes a month long training to try and beat her on her own turf, and in the end succeeds by unexpectedly revealing her emotional deficits. The 5th episode is a look at the dichotomy of interests within a proper young girl of the Japanese traditional elite where Kintaro again must overcome the interests of the lady in subject in order to win her affections. Her conservative, majestic appearance is juxtaposed by a broiling, hateful sexuality below her pristine veneer. This time around, it is Kintaro on his bicycle versus a woman on a racing motorcycle in the perilous mountain passes of western Japan. There is a unique little cameo by the creator Egawa in a Porsche 911. During the final 5 minutes is the most amazing chase sequence anime has ever seen, and the technical aspects along with the humor and craft of the story are incredible. Lastly, Kintaro works as a production assistant in a sweatshop animation studio forced by consequence into an impossible deadline on the smash cartoon 'Golden Girl'. An insightful parody on the A.P.P.P. studio which made the 'Golden Boy' series brings a slew of unique characters into the show and allows understanding of the anime artist's lifestyle. In the end, Kintaro must find each of the women in his past adventures in order to complete his mission in animation and save the studio from going under....but now the shoe is on the other foot and the women WANT Kintaro for themselves.

Always a pleasure; Golden Boy doesn't disappoint due to the complexity of the characters, the clever plot turns and rich skill of animation. There is always an interesting view on the relation between men and women with Kintaro on the defensive against his own hormones and their guile, or on the attack against their fortified hearts. The art is supreme- I was just watching the amazingly human animation on the third episode. Obviously the crew used plenty of photo reference and video to accurately recreate the specific worlds for each installment. The first DVD is a combo of all information put out by ADV to help assist the Golden Boy VHS series in 1996, and further extras are lacking but unnecessary since the entertainment is in the show itself. A must buy for anime fans! Caution: sexually explicit situations.
