Summary: Intriguing Anime
Review: Birdy the Mighty is funny and action packed. The visual effects and voice acting for the dubb is fantastic. I love sci fi anime. If you love this I recommend you see Battle Angel and Macross(don't know which movie or volume if any other).

Summary: Birdy the MIGHTY!
Review: I picked up the this video blindly at the video store, and saw that it was by the same director as Ninja Scroll, and since I had heard a lot about NS, I decided this might be good enough. Man, I was so blown away! I absolutely loved this video, I watched it about three or four times! I was so impressed by this simple, unknown anime title, that ten minutes into the show, I was already laughing and yelling "yeah! she's cool!". With excellent animation, a fair plot (though there's much to make up for that) funny/cool characters, what could be better? Oh wait, I have the answer to that: to be a longer series.

Summary: Excellent Anime!
Review: I rented this simply because the box looked nice. I wasn't expecting it too be all that good. Boy was I wrong! I watched it four times, and then came to Amazon.com to buy both tapes.

The animation is excellent. It's easily on par with that of "Ah! My Goddess!" The amount of action is incredibly too, including several superb fight scenes. Most anime will show the same punch from 3 different camera angles or show a still-frame of the character on a moving background, but not Birdy. All the action is wonderfully drawn and acted out.

While the plot is only fair, the concept behind the plot is very cool. There are a few instances of jokes or lines that don't translate well, but even they aren't too bad.

The character Tsutomi was a bit too whinny at times. However, all the other characters, even the extras, were very good. The best character of all was Birdy. Her voice actor was simply amazing. You can feel the frustration, relief, etc. in her voice. The artwork for her was very, very good. I would love to see more characters with two-tone hair.

One last thing I should mention. Birdy has several rear nudity scenes, but no hint of sex. It's not that bad, and would only upset a very puritanical person. (Actually, old Loony Tunes episodes had rear nudity at times, and they've been shown on network TV for decades).

In almost every department, Birdy the Mighty is superb. I haven't seen anything I like better. My only wish is that the series was longer.

Summary: "Birdy" A Great Action Movie!!!!
Review: This is one of the best animes ever! Birdy, an alien girl of the Space Federation, comes to Earth to track down outlaws. But along the way she gets into an accident that nearly kills meek worrisome schoolboy Tsutomi Senkawa. In order to save him, his body becomes fused with hers whereas one can change into the other at appropriate times. Together, with Birdy's super-strengh and powers combined with Tsutomi's knowledge of Earth culture, they both embark on various adventures, the main one dealing with a serum that could turn people of Japan into lizard-like mutant soldiers, which carries off to the next video. What I like much was the animation which is very colorful and often exciting to watch, with a sharp visual sytle that helps a lot. The plot is good and I enjoyed the interaction between Birdy and Tsutomi, the villians and starnge monsters they're up against, and the Sankawa family, which don't know about Birdy though there have been some close calls, some mildly comical. The amine also features some of the most awesome action scences in moviedom, especailly the scence where Birdy and a mutant battle it out among the Tokyo skysrapers, causing some hefty property damage. Such is handled excitingly with great graphics, and lot more intense, with great pacing then the "shoot-them-up/blow-them-up" flicks from Hollywood. I highly recomend the Birdy the Mighty videos for any animation fan looking for a good adenture.

Summary: Intriguing Anime
Review: This tape contains parts 1 and 2 of the four-part OAV series. Considering that the series was originally released on four laserdiscs in Japan for at least $50 apiece, Americans are getting a steal.

This anime strikes a fine balance of comedy and superhuman martial-arts action, with great characters to boot. Beautiful and dedicated (not to mention super-strong and hot-tempered) space cop Birdy tracks down rogue alien criminals on modern-day Earth. A terrible accident occurs, and she soon finds herself stuck with high school kid Tsutomu Senkawa as her partner. Not that Tsutomu's exactly thrilled, himself. He's in the middle of exam hell (American college students will empathize), and if he thought he had stress _before_...

Director Yoshiaki Kawajiri's previous work includes _Ninja Scroll_, so you have an idea of how cool the fight scenes get in _Birdy the Mighty_. (In this tape Birdy gets to take on monsters, robots and a powerful telekinetic in hand-to-hand combat). The animation studio was Mad House, whose credits include Wicked City, Ninja Scroll, and Record of Lodoss War. The animation in _Birdy_ stands a cut above television standards, with gorgeous color, detailed backgrounds, and a higher "frame rate" than most television animation.

The story is based on an unfinished manga by Yuuki Masami (the creator of _Patlabor_). Though the anime takes you through a complete story arc (involving the plot of a sinister genius), several other threads are left open at the end of the series. I truly hope they do a sequel, because I wanted to see more, more, more.

(Trivia: if I recall correctly, using the word that means "fall" or "drop" in Japan is considered terrible luck during exam time, since the spoken word "ochiru" sounds _exactly_ like the word that means "fail." Just so you know). ^_^
