Summary: Tobe! Gandamu!
Review: This is were it starts. Buy this series.
The Gundam series marked a transition from the human shaped super robots of the era, to a more mechanical design (just take a look at Tomino's Daitarn-3, Zanbot-3, etc., etc.)
This is an amazing story, and heavily grounded in science. This was the framing for characters that would appear throughout the Universal Century again and again, and the founding of classic Gundam archetypes.
A note about the omittence of a Japanese language track. There is none. There is no release of the Gundam series on DVD in Japan (There's a laserdisc version, if you want that). For this reason, Sunrise wouldn't allow a Japanese track to be put on the American version.

Summary: Gundam the original series
Review: This series occurs at the beginning of the 79th Universal Century (UC 0079). Its the Gundam series that started it all. Much of the other gundam series owe a lot to the first one. You will notice similarities between the main "antagonists" of this one and Wing; also, you will notice that it centers around a war. Being created in late 70's, the main difference the bad guys are a little more distinguishable.

The plot line is still intense. The animation not as crisp as 0080, 0083, 08th MS, and Wing. You still have the "Super Robot Look" of the 70's on some of the enemy mobile suits. Treat it as a classic piece of animation and for what it is a piece of Gundam History (created 15 year before Gundam Wing).

The plot centers around the deployment of a rookie crew aboard the a starship called the White Base and the Gundam it supports during the "One Year War", where the space colonies allied to the Zion movement declared their independance from the Earth Federation.

Amuro Ray is the main character who controls the Gundam and Char Aznable his main antagonist. Both have potential New-type abilities that allow them to control their Mobile Suits with much eaze compared to the normal types. The development of Amuro from boy to man will be apparent in the series as well as his New-type abilites.....

Hope this helps and gets you going...

Summary: The Original Gundam
Review: Took Nippon Sunrise 22 years to release the "Tomino" Gundam series. The DVD is great to have, but the English Dubb can use some serious help. As of the show, first timer will have to settle for the 70's animation, but you must watch this series to understand the later series of Zeta Gundam, which is much better(good way to compare them is like watch the original Star Trek vs. the Next Generation). For those newbies, Tomino is the original creater of Gundam, and he later wrote the sequal which is called Zeta Gundam, Gundam Double Zeta, and Spin off movies such as F91 and Char's Counter Attack, and the short stories such as the War in the Pocket and Star Dust Memory. As of the new series such as Wings, G, X Turn A, and 08, those were written by other Nippon Sunrise screen writers, with the intention of creating more models and toys. Watch this series and enjoy it, and let's hope they will bring the Zeta Gundam series here in the near future, and give it a better dubbing job.

Summary: Mobile Suit Gundam - The Battle Begins (Vol .1, Uncut Edn)
Review: What can I say?! Well as a person who enjoyed Gundam in Japan when it first came out I can say that I'm happy to see it out now in English.... However, the english script leaves a lot to be desired.... it seemed to fall flat and was not really felt by the voice actors..... still great to see it out.... if you want top quality dubbing and moving voice actors definately get GUNDAM 08 MS-TEAM (That ROCKS).... maybe the directors of the ENGLISH dubbing for the 08 MS-TEAM series can redo the originals to the same quality. Pity the DVDs don't have the original japanese voices. But then Gundam is generally great stuff anyway.
