Summary: Tom and Jerry are cool but...
Review: ...this DVD presents them in an incorrect aspect ratio. The cartoons are unique in the fact that they have aspect ratios between 2.35:1 and 2.55:1 with some serious thought put into compositions. This DVD is just plain, old fashioned 1.33:1 (pan and scan) with half the picture hacked of the sides of each short. If Cartoon Network pay money to redub sound effects on present airings (some of which are in their OAR) then I would have assumed that Warner would also produced an anamorphic widescreen DVD with a 5.1 track. Stick to the TV airings. At least they are sporadically in the correct aspect ratio.

Summary: Typical Warners DVD production...CHEAP
Review: Having seen the cartoons on this DVD I can tell you that it is once again cheap DVD production done by Warners using grainy film prints of the cartoons done for a full screen format, these cartoons were originally photographed in widescreen. A big thumbs down to both Warners and Cartoon Network for using cheap production standards with DVDs.

Summary: i've got this on VHS
Review: i've got this Tom and Jerry project on video and so maybe there's a difference with the DVD? when i watch the video i've got {it's in a clam shell case}, they look just as if they were from Cartoon Network. there's nothing bad about them that i can find. my favorite cartoons on this video are "In the Hollywood Bowl"; "Two Mouseketeers"; "Texas Tom"; and "Cat and the Mermouse". the only thing negative is the running time. just 72 minutes and i know what some might be thinking. commercial free 72 minutes is LONGER than something with commercials. this is true. but, Tom and Jerry, classic or contemporary, are always good if given proper stories. i didn't like the cartoons where they were "pals" and fought a common enemy. i also didn't like the Gene Dietch versions either, but they're better than the friendly versions that Hanna-Barbera produced after being intimidated by anti-violent, nonsensical protest groups who had influence over advertisers and the media-at-large. if you doubt me, just look at how the media paints cartoons like this as violent even though in the next scene everyone's in perfect shape. Unrealistic violence does not harm anybody and neither does realistic violence for that matter. it all boils down to a viewer's psyche and NOT a silly anti-violence spokesperson CLAIMING how harmful these shows are. this, like i said, is great as far as i can tell. i don't have the DVD version. get the VHS and see if there's a difference. but from my perspective, there's not one thing wrong with the VHS i've got.

Review: Tom and Jerry's second DVD collection of classic cartoons has been butchered, like the first one. "Mucho Mouse" is shown in a pan-and-scan format, where no less than 40% of the picture is chopped off of the sides. Tom and Jerry should be shown in their original format. I don't care about the "black bars," I want to see the full picture, and that is not what I see on this DVD. I wouldn't recommend this DVD even at a bargain price. Don't support censorship and avoid this DVD!

Review: While I'm very happy to see Tom and Jerry showing up on DVD finally, this volume is somewhat disappointing in comparison with the earlier Tom and Jerry's Greatest Chases. For one thing, it's 30 minutes shorter; there are 14 cartoons on that first disc, and only 10 on this one. For another, there are no real "extras" (those listed are really aimed only at children, which is fine--but come on...). The first disc saw a nice clip with Jerry and Gene Kelley dancing. Surely there are other archival 'extras' that could be included. Thirdly--and this is something of a minor point--the "menu" music is atrociously bad. Child-synth. Just leave it without music next time or use actual archival sound from the cartoons. I sincerely hope future releases will also delve into the less "PC" T&J, with "mammy" yelling "Thomas!" at the cat. I'd also like to see some of the Chuck Jones cartoons from the 60s put out in this series. The Pluses: * You get great cartoons. Tom and Jerry are always good (well, until you get to those godawful Gene Dietch monstrosities). * Picture and sound quality are what you would expect. * The disc has a -very- convenient "Play All" feature (listening, Simpsons? Listening, Disney Treasures?) Definitely worth the money, though a bit more in terms of content (akin to the first release) would be preferable.
