Summary: good anime... bad DVD
Review: As an anime, I liked it. not a favourite... but it's worth watching... what really detracted was the quality of the DVD itself.

I'm the kind of person that isn't fond of watching EVERY intro/ending theme EVERYTIME.

This collection is episode based... each episode with an intro and ending theme... as opposed to a movie with one intro and one ending theme.

Normally being Episode based isn't a problem for me, I have Gundam Wing, which is 49 episodes... I can just click next to skip the intro and go right into the anime... but during the production of the anime they placed only few track breaks (locations the dvd can skip to)... none are directly after the intro... most if not all are only at the halfway mark of an episode.

honesty... I don't like being forced to watch the SAME exact intro 6 times. the only solution is to move the track manually... and GUESS where the intro theme ends... which greatly annoys me.

From an artistic aspect it's good. From a technical aspect, it's poor. there is no excuse for this technical failure.

As an anime, I would give it 4 stars... as a product i would give it less than zero if I could...

If you're like me... avoid watching this anime on DVD... the technical failure will drive you nuts... and it will prevent you from enjoying the anime itself.

Summary: Pretty, but empty
Review: Basically, it boils down to this: are you a fan of CLAMP design? If yes, you will enjoy it. If no, you probably should look elsewhere. I say this because the story is poorly choreographed and fairly cliche. The only thing outstanding in this video is the artwork. Some of it is very pretty. Overall, pretty much your average anime...all style, no substance.

Summary: The Way is Open
Review: I enjoyed Shamanic Princess very much, and on a number of levels. Most obvious is Tiara's visual appeal, but at least as strong is the appeal of both the dynamic magical battles, with their wonderful ritualized feel, and the storyline in which nothing turns out to be quite as it appears. (...)the 'in media res' opening, with the backstory supplied later, is a perfectly respectable and in this case extremely appropriate method of telling a story: We get the main story first, and enough information to usnderstand it, then the backstory is given us, the main sory and backstory illuminating each other in a way a linear telling could not..

Summary: Shamanic Princess? Blah blah blah
Review: I just got this DVD and although most of the reviews for it are positive, I would have to disagree with them. IT WAS BORING. It felt like a chore just to get through the first 1/2 hour, imagine how much more for the whole 3. There was too much posturing, the voice of the main character was irritating and I was dissapointed.

Summary: Beautiful, deep...but so confusing!
Review: I know that some people reviewed this anime as cliche and superficial, but I don't think that they even saw the whole thing. In this respect, it's better to get the DVD than the videos one by one. This is a beautiful, haunting show that really draws you in. But the reason why I can't fully recommend it is that there's too much story for only six episodes (they could have made a whole several season TV show out of what happens here!), you don't get to know the characters well enough, and it's so confusing! I had to have my sister explain it to me several times, and I still didn't get it. You'll have to get some info off the internet and keep it handy as you watch the show. Too bad... it could have been so much better.

Summary: Not the best
Review: I love the character design and animation on this release, the dub is quite bad in places (thank goodness for the Japanese track) and the plot canm be confusing early on. However, most people that bought this would probably admit to getting it for either the short skirts, fantasy feel or Clamp's design work, the latter of which was the high point for me with this piece of animation.

Not the best but the 3 hour length makes up for it. Quite enjoyable and lovely animation in places.

Summary: Good but wierd way to end it
Review: I loved the action sequences and the character designs were amazing. The story though twisted and a bit confusing kept you on the edge of your seats. The only problem with the whole DVD was that the story started in, after I saw the entire DVD, what seemed to be the second chapter of the movie. The chapter last put on the DVD would have made the whole thing make since if it was put as the first chapter. So the DVD should be viewed in the order of Section 3, then 1, then 2.
It had an unexpected ending but its a must if you like sorcery and fights.

Summary: SP plot - response
Review: I reall enjoyed Shamanic Princess, and I'm not big on similar shows (such as Vampire Princess Miyu or X), but was hesitant to try it initially. In response to the first review of this title, concerning the statement that the "writers had to artificially create a ense of mystery by withholding information from the viewer": this doesn't detract from the show, and I believe the way the story was structured was great. Since the 5th OVA (which would have been first chronologically) is much slower going and doesn't have the same feel as the rest (since it covers the girls' childhood), placing it first would have turned off potential viewers (plus no Japolo!) More importantly, the last two OVAs were done over a year to year and a half after the first 4 OVAs, and were done because the first four were popular, not as a ploy to add 'mystery' to the show. Lastly, there are books (Faulkner's work comes to mind) where a nonchronological technique is used successfully; don't make it sound as if Shamanic Princess pioneered the idea or used it as a sneaky way to get you involved.

Summary: Excellent film, layout a little confusing
Review: I recently watched this series and it's good. There is a lot of action and the story tends to flow rather quickly, maybe too quickly. Although the technical material was not really explained, you can still understand it.

The box is rated at 13 and up and that is rather suiting. There is a lot of violence (as with most action animes) but the nudity is VERY brief, maybe 5 seconds of actual nudity within the whole 3 hours (towards the end), and those 5 seconds you don't really see anything. The rest of the series is just the tight clothes the female characters wear. Basically, if you're comfortable with the cover of the box, then there should be no problem.

The layout of the series is a little confusing. Episodes one through four progress through. At the end of the fourth episode is the "end" of the series. Episodes five and six are flashbacks to before the first episode. So the chronological order of the series is 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, and then 4. I would still watch it in the order it is on the DVD simply because episodes 5 and 6 contain things that would spoil the other episodes if you didn't see those. But if you are confused after the fourth episode, keep watching the second two because it will answer a lot of the questions you may be having.

Overall, it's a good series. The animation is good and the English dub is good. The plotline isn't so complicated you can't follow, but not so linear that you get bored. If you can afford the somewhat hefty price tag, I would highly recommend this.
