Summary: Ludicrous, but carried off with a certain panache
Review: G Gundam premiered in 1994. It was the first "Gundam" show to abandon the main, serious "Universal Century" (UC) continuity that had linked all previous Gundam series and movies. While UC series like Gundam 0083, Zeta Gundam, and Char's Counterattack all take place in historical relation to one another, with recurring characters and reference to past events, G Gundam, like Gundam Wing after it, is off in its own little universe. G Gundam was also a big fat commercial ploy by Bandai to goose Gundam model kit and paraphernalia sales, which had been slipping since the lukewarm reception of Victory Gundam (1993-94). The result is something like Gundam meets Street Fighter by way of Dragonball Z. Dozens of over-the-top Gundams representing the different space "nations" come together in the Gundam Fight. These "mobile fighters" all have ludicrous traits that represent their nations. E.g., the "Neo-Canada" entrant is called "Grizzly Gundam" (Lumber Gundam in Japan), and is built like a ... well, a lumberjack, with a big old mecha chainsaw on its back. Seriously. If you think that's wild, you need to check out the Mummy Gundam and the Mermaid Gundam, which transforms into a fish. Mermaid is actually an elegant design, in a psychedelic sort of way. Each pilot has a finishing move with his Gundam, and in the best PlayStation style, yells out the move as he does it. "Shining Finger!!" The main characters are a bunch of top Gundam fighters who come together in a playing-card-motif kind of club called (ahem) The Shuffle Alliance. All of this is obviously a long way from the semi-realistic, gritty military drama of the UC Gundam shows. For that reason a lot of older fans despise G Gundam. They figure, with some justice, that it gives potential fans the wrong impression of what the other, more serious Gundam shows are like. (Gundam Wing's popularity with preteens likewise misled lots of people to think Gundam is about pretty-faced misanthropic boys riding invincible uber-Gundams and giving incomprehensible speeches about war and peace. Actually, most of the good UC shows are about military men and women piloting all-too-mortal mobile suits, and they contain some genuinely moving scenes.) Me, I wouldn't buy G Gundam on DVD or go out of my way to watch it, but I gotta admit it played out on TV somewhat better than it sounds. The fight choreography is excellent, if liberally laced with drama/cheese. Several cool technological tricks are unveiled, like the skintight movement-sensitive suits that the pilots wear inside their cockpits to direct the machines. The final God Gundam piloted by hero Domon Kasshu (Burning Gundam in the US) is a gorgeous mecha. Schwarz Bruder's "Neo-German" Gundam Spiegel (Shadow Gundam) is also sweet. The actors manage to invest the campy mecha fights with passion. Rain Mikamura is a babe. In sum, while there are a lot of more nutritious Gundam series out there (Zeta Gundam is FINALLY coming on domestic DVD, in fall 2004!), G Gundam offers decent brain and eye candy for fans.

Summary: Not the best gundam but good
Review: G Gundam was crap compared to other series like 08th MS Team and Mobile Suit Gundam, but it is awesome when looked at next to 0080 and Stardust Memory. It doesnt stand up to animes like Bebop Slayers Inu-Yasha and Outlaw Star because of the lack of good characters.
The drawbacks to this series is mainly that the characters get annoying. by the end of the series the only person youll be liking is Fuunsiki cuz he doesnt talk.
On the other side it has a very good plot and the best mecha out of almost any anime out there. If it wasnt turned so child oriented by Cartoon Network more people would probably like it (same with almost any anime on cartoon network).
If you alredy own all the 08th MS team DVD's then go for this but if you dont and are looking for an anime where youll actually LIKE the characters then buy that

Review: G Gundam was one of the best gundam series all around(in my opinion). O.K. Listen up. I`m not going to go into every single
detail,meaning the colonies and stuff.But I will tell you some characters.first of all the main character is Domon Kasshu,
representing Neo Japan(oh,by the way,this is a tournament of brawlers representing different nations.The last nation`s gundam that survives will win the tournament).He pilots the mighty Shining Gundam,accompied by his crewmember,Rein Mikamora.Along the way the meet new pilots and gundams.The reason Domon has entered the tournament is to find his brother Kioji(don`t worry.All will be revealed in the DVD.)who pilots the Dark Gundam.Along the way Domon loses the Shining Gundam,which gets destroyed,but soon finds the Burning Gundam,but don`t worry about that.It`s a lot of episodes ahead.You`ll just have to watch to see! This DVD is a good one so get it.READY? G-G-G-GO!

Summary: voices horrible
Review: I have seen this series already in the original Japanese language, and I have to admit that the Japanese version is indeed better than the one currently airing in America. The voices fit the characters better, and the voice actors put more feeling and emotion into the voices. For example, instead of adding an echo to Dommon's voice to simulate anger and excitement, the Japanese voice actors actually yelled, which was much more convincing and added more emotional impact. Rain's English voice also bugs me quite a bit. Changing the names of the Gundams was also a stupid move as well. How stupid does Mummy Gundam sound? I prefer the original Pharoah Gundam; also Minaret Gundam (Scimitar), Kowloon Gundam (Haow), Mandala Gundam (Mandor) and others. The three that upset me were the changes from God Gundam to Burning Gundam; Devil Gundam to Dark Gundam; and Gundam Heaven's Sword to Raven Gundam. I loved this series when I watched it in Japanese, but the English version is a total joke. There are too many disappointments that ruin this great series.

Summary: A great Gundam Series
Review: I was first kind of steptical on how this series was going to turn out, but after watching the cartoon network version I have lost all of my regrets. The series was just plain awesome, I enjoyed every moment of it. To me the series felt like across between Dragon Ball Z, because of all the fighting and Cowboy Bebop because the main character in G Gundam Domon Kasshu remindes me of Spike Spiegel ( because all of the martial arts.)
If you are a fan of DBZ, Cowboy Bebop, or any other type of martial arts anime then this series for you. Caution though some gundam fans may dislike this series, because of its different over all style.

Review: it is one of the only gundam series i like ive seen a couple of them and they were to melodramatic but g gundam was awsome ok so the fight seen were a little bit to much like dbz but it was still an excellent series and is recommend to any who likes gundam or an anime with action and romance g gundam will not dissapoint buy it now!

Summary: Great and way better than Gundam Wing
Review: Just when you thought you've seen it all, G Gundam throws it right back at ya. G Gundam, in a nutshell, is Street Fighter and Dragonball Z mixed with Gundam. At first, I thought it sounded lame, but as it progressed, I grew to like it. Also, unlike Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Wing, G Gundam actually has good characters. Domon's not whiny like Amuro or suicidal like Heero. And unlike Gundam Wing, the women on G Gundam actually look like woman and are not too muscular. THe Gundam fights are cool, but when you're watching it, you feel like you're watching Dragonball Z or Street Fighter. It plays more akin to Capcom's Dreamcast mecha-based fighting game, Tech Romancer. Overall, this is a worthy addition to the fine Gundam series. Semper Fi, carry on.

Summary: The best alternate universe Gundam
Review: Many, many people will pass up this series beacause of the goofy looking mobile fighters, almost DBZ-type antics, and because of the fact that it's a Super Robot show. Well those people are missing out on yet another great Gundam series. The plot goes way beyond the "Gundam Fight" tournament. And so what if it's a Super Robot show? I like super robots. Like a lot of the more recent, non-Universal Century Gundam shows, the first few episodes of this series are pretty so-so, until you get to the main plot, which centers around Domom Kasshu (the fighter for Neo-Japan and the Shining Gundam's pilot)'s search for his brother, who has stolen the evil Devil (Dark) Gundam. Once the plot picks up, this series can get very, very engrossing. Also, while the initial fights aren't that exiting, the ones later on in the series are VERY exiting. At the very least, it's better than Gundam Wing. (You can say that about every other Gundam series, too, as well as most other anime in general.)
