Summary: Great for kids, terrible for others
Review: Simply put, this is a great set, but only for fairly young kids. For anyone who has seen and enjoyed the uncut Japanese versions it's more of a disappointment than anything else, and you'll find yourself spending a lot of time remembering what was changed or cut out. On the good side, the video and audio look very good for an animated series of this age. There are plenty of episodes, and of course the story is wonderful. It's also still quite funny, despite the criticisms below. On the bad side, everything is highly edited and is only available in a cut and dubbed English version. The set appears to have been geared to ages 8 and below. Though the addition of underwear to an otherwise naked Goku may be understandable, there are far more dramatic changes from the original. The most egregious of these may be Master's Roshi's demand to see Bulma's panties in the original having been changed into a request that she set him up on a date. Even worse, he makes a point of stating that she should be a woman around his own age. At best this is excessively toned-down, at worst it makes the surrounding scenes nonsensical. As a gift for a young kid, this would be a wonderful set. But if you're more than about 10 years old or enjoy the humor in the original, it's best avoided.

Summary: the severly edited episodes
Review: After watching this one can tell that this was not the recent releases done on cartoon network. If anything after watching this it brings back the thought that this was once released years ago in a severly edited format. Not to say that this is bad or anything because for the most part the story arcs are still there. However the most comedic elements of these episodes like when goku first heres about a bath and Bulma has to bathe him, or the severe pervertedness of Master Roshi are all edited out and replaced with dialouge that is corny or removed entirly. This is an allright set at the right price, and good for little kids. But for fans who have been getting the sagas that funimation has been releasing as of late, I would not bother.

Summary: Fun For All Ages
Review: When I first bought this DVD, I was expecting something similar to what I saw on Cartoon Network. Well, I was partly right. There were more parts in the DVD than on the TV show, but the voices seemed a little off. Other than that, the humor was great, and you get the Curse of the Blood Rupies free in this Box Set. I recommend this and other Dragon Ball DVDs as a good way to start watching Anime or just go back to the simpler, more carefree anime.

Summary: My Dragon Balls Hurt
Review: You know what...I like the entire Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z series'. I've watched them all on cartoon network (Great channel by the way) I've even gone to the trouble of renting the original Japanese versions from out of the way Japanese rental stores. I got my hopes up when I thought the Saga of Goku boxed set would include the original, uncensored versions of all the episodes. The Japanese rental store has uncensored versions but they are in Japanese, no English subtitles or anything. That's ok...if you don't mind not knowing what's going on. I can't understand why funimation, or whatever company put this box set out, didn't release an uncensored version. This show might be marketed towards little kids here, but there are plenty of people who want to see these cartoons as they were intended to be seen. The series is called Dragon Ball; I just know I am missing some "Ball jokes" just because the only way to view this series is censored. So to whom it may concern, please, oh for the love of god please, release an affordable, uncensored version of this, and every other Dragon Ball, and Dragon Ball Z series.

Summary: First Dragon Ball DVD I ever bought, but not the last...
Review: Excuse my bad english!I bought this DVD because I have read some of the books and I thought It would be really cool to see If It was as great as the books, IT WAS! There are only two things that bothers me and that Is the fact that It's edited and that there aren't very much fighting In the first episodes (this volume), the real fighting begins in The Tournament Saga!
But It sure Is worth the money, but If you buy this, I recommend you to buy some of the other volumes while you're still shopping, becuase It's really annoying when It ends, you just want more, more and more!

Summary: Uncut version coming in 2004, hopefully.
Review: If you are wondering why the first boxed set of the Dragon Ball series is edited while the others are uncut it is because Funimation doesn't have the rights to these first set of episodes (Pioneer has them, I think). According to Funimation, they should get the rights back some time in 2004, and they promised to released an uncut version at that time. So, if you are like me wanting to watch this exellent series from episode one in all its uncut glory will have to wait until then.

Summary: Be warned, fans! This set is NOT UNCUT!
Review: This set is the entire Dragonball classic series Emperor Pilaf series, as it aired on TV, totally edited. To make things worse, this is the 1995 dub, not the 2001 one, which is vastly superior. There are edits left and right. To quote another reviewer, this set is "good for kids, bad for others." Also, the DVDs have virtually no extras whatsoever. The only reasons I didn't give this set five stars are as follows: One, it's Dragonball. Two, it's got Curse Of The Blood Rubies. Though this film can't actually take place (it's a retelling of the first few episodes of the series), it IS uncut. DO NOT BUY THIS SET. Eventually, FUNimation is bound to release the originals, in all their uncut glory. But until that day, hold off. Patience is a virtue.

Review: This DVD is pretty good. It's edited, but contains the fist 13 episodes of Dragonball. If u are between ages 3-12 u will like this DVD. If u are 13+ wait for Funimation to realese the uncut version. It haves drastical changes. The Kamehameha is HORRIBLE!This DVD also contains the first Dragonball movie: ''Curse of the Blood Rubies'' or ''The Legend of Shenron''. Wathever...this DVD is pretty good.

Review: Dragon Ball.
A wonderful TV series. In Japan, that is. Sadly, in US, the series has been butchered by translators to make it appropriate for kids. The problem is that the series was never meant for kids, as it contains a lot of violence and dirty humor. Luckily, the translators have started to release uncut DVD box sets, containing both the dubbed version and the uncut japanese original (with subtitles). These are [well priced], and I really recommend them. However, this is not one of those box sets. This set contains nothing but the dubbed version, which was a very poor job, and generally disgusting to watch. Hopefully, the nice people at FUNi will release an uncut version of the first season as well. Don't buy this.
