Summary: A Macross [copy]
Review: Get serious, of all the stories to write about surrouding the Macross world, the producers went and write a story about a love triangle. Thank God that it's only a 4 part series.

You have Isamu Dayson, Guld Bowman and Myung, childhood friends and basically Myung undecided about these 2 guys and while they ended up hating each other's guts fighting for her. But both vowing to protect Myung, regardless. Get it now - IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MACROSS!!!

Then... oh what a coincidence, Isamu gets to be a test pilot for the VF-19 fighter while Guld is the test pilot for VF-21 and both of them are vying for the same government project. yeah, yeah some fight scenes... so what. And oh wait... what about Myung, she quits singing after an 'incident' involving the 3 of them. But lends her talent as the supplier of 'emotions' to this AI holographic rock star, whilst disguising herself to the public as the producer to this so called AI rock star. The public is duped into thinking that it's total AI but little do they know that Myung is the puppet mistress behind it.

Anyway, to tie it all together, the AI went nuts coz the scientist behind it removed some safeguard on the program. And of all the things - guess what. It went nuts becoz the AI also fell in love with these 2 jokers (emotions were supplied by Myung - pft... pft... yucks...).

Ok, so what does a love sick AI program do - hijack SDF-1 and kidnaps Myung, and to tie it all together, Isamu and Guld puts their differences behind to save her... some more fight scenes after what seems like hours of corny dialog.

Soppy, soppy, soppy, sloppy, sickening, dumb misuse of the Macross Universe... what a waste...

Summary: dated
Review: I used to think this was the most incredible thing ever. Now I realize that: 1. This series is retarded / 2. It's nothing but a Top Gun rip-off / 3. Anime is for teenagers / 4. Anime only seemed cool and futuristic in the early 90's / 5. The only good Anime is still AKIRA / 6. This DVD has some of the most sub-par video quality I've ever seen for this format.

Summary: A Better Sequel
Review: Let me say it right out: Macross Plus is thousands of times better than Macross II.
There. Now, as for the show, it is a surprisingly well done work in the theatre of anime. The plot seems cliched at first, and it does take a little while to reach the first twist, but it does manage to pull together. The story does shift around a bit to the untrained eye, but if you pay attention, you can grasp the concepts in play. The rivalry between the two test pilots is revealed to be deeper rooted than is first apparent. Part 2 reveals information that will turn the relationships upside down.
This is a skilled work, put together masterfully, and worthy of your money.

Summary: A Great Trip
Review: Lets start out by saying that if you buy Macross Plus V1 you might as well buy V2, because you will have to see the entire thing.

Vol 1 reminds me of a "Top Gun" kinda flick with the whole Japan mecho-...in the background. *But* we have the mysterious video gal who is there to captivate us.
Vol 2 is the resolution and is most amazing. If you expected a simple mano-au-mano resolution then you will be disapointed, otherwise you will be both surprised and amazed at the last part of this anime. What a great flick!!!

Summary: Little previous knowledge required.
Review: As far as the Macross/Robotech series go, I have only read the McKinney novels and winced at some of the early Robotech episodes. This has a whole different feel, having almost nothing to do with wars and everything to do with relationships. Superb animation. I loved seeing the Valikres drawn so well. It helps if someone in the room knows something about Macross for when questions come up like "dude, why is that guy green and stuff?"

Summary: Nice entertainment, but just another anime
Review: This is anime epitomized: mechas, exaggerated characters, plenty of action and a completely infantile ending which leaves you asking yourself, "do they really think I'm that stupid?".
Lets begin with the technical aspects of this piece. The animation is smooth and detailed by any standard (although the characters seem to have pointy noses uncommon in most animes). There are some very kinetic flight sequences and the camera work is very good. The music is nice, but lets face it, my cat writes better lyrics than Yoko Kanno, they're really very silly. Kanno is a very talented composer, but why can't she leave writing lyrics to more talented people? But, quibbles aside, technically speaking this title will stand up to even the most detailed scrutiny.
Now for the content. Anime fans like to brag how anime is so different from western animation. This is a load of nonsense. This movie is just like any Hollywood blockbuster, by definition: a lot of entertaining eye candy which really doesn't make sense once you think about it. My advice is: don't. I'm a bit too old to believe in "song attacks" - the fact that people can alter reality by singing. Also the final resolution of the conflict between Isamu and Guld is, to say the least, unbelievable, and relies on some dime-psychology explanation. Finally, the idea of an artificial intelligence computer doing what it did is, once again, quite stupid.
I've always been a believer in animation as a highly expressive medium. That's probably why I get disappointed so often. My advice is: don't expect too much sense out of this OAV if you're over 20 years old. If you don't mind that, I guess you should give it a go. Like I said: this is nothing but a silly Hollywood blockbuster.

Summary: Anime at it's best
Review: I must say that this is a great anime movie to own. I first saw Macross II on the Action Channel and found the movie quite boring and dull, but one day I happened to have found Macross Plus on and started to watch it getting hooked very easily into the plot. The music itself was beautiful enough to tag me to watch more. The japanese version is even better than the English that I saw on tv, it is a great anime with beautiful animation. I loved this movie and I've seen many

Summary: For me, it didn't live up to the hype...
Review: I know from the reviews I've read here and other places that this is a well-loved anime. However, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, and I happen to have a different one. The animation in this was beautiful--unbelievably fluid and detailed, quite breathtaking. The music was, unsurprisingly, similarly inspiring. However, I just didn't find myself in the slightest bit interested in what was happening to these characters. Of the two main competing pilots, neither one had me rooting for them. Oh, they both liked the same girl and now they've met again. That's nice. That's about how involved I got.

As for the convenience of the plot, that annoyed me too. Oh, so Dyson gets reassigned to this faraway place, and it just *happens* to be where his rival is stationed and his rival just *happens* to be working on this competing fighter and their long-lost love just *happens* to be in town because she's a concert producer for Sharon Apple (okay, I recognize the joke there, but still--Sharon *APPLE*? lame). One too many coincedences for my tastes.

Normally, in this genre of film, you root for the "good guy" to beat the "bad guy." I'm assuming that Dyson is our "hero." I liked him at first, but finally found him to be an irritatingly cocky jerk who looks at women as pieces of meat. I know I'm being harsh here, but I was extremely disappointed in what I was hoping would be a much more entertaining experience. In the end, despite the amazing animation and score, I found myself checking my watch and wondering when it would be over.

As always, this is all simply MHO, I welcome yours.

Summary: The Original Roughneck of Dela-musia High school
Review: This was the first Macross anime I had ever seen. And ever since then I have been hooked on Macross. This is definately one of the best out there and has, in my opion, the BEST valkyries ever! The movie has a nice plot to it and the typical Macross elements: Love triangle, pop-singer as a major role, nice air battles. The animation in this is probably the best ever. If you love anime and like Macross, love Macross and like anime, or are new to both, you will defineatly want this as part of your collection.

Summary: Nice
Review: Macross Plus is a wonderful little anime. It has all the hallmarks of anime, complicated intertwining storylines, epic battles, a distinct sci-fi edge, and all the style that goes along with it. It has plenty of shots of stationary figures in fields that have their hair blowing everywhere, still a favorite of mine after so many times. The plot is very strange actually, it involves two competing pilots who are working for different companies trying to get a defense contract, and a woman who is the architect of the most popular pop star in the galaxy. It all comes together somehow, and thats all that matters. It is consistently entertaining, and just plain cool. Anime fans who have not bought this, should give it a whirl. You won't regret it.
