Review: I've seen all of this series, and I found it to be one of the creepiest series I've ever seen!It impressed me right off with the theme song, which was beautiful. Fair warning, the plot gets wierder after the first 4 episodes, so it's best to watch again and again. :)

Review: Where to start? This series is absolutely amazing! Very odd though. The whole thing looks reminiscent of some drug-related trip. This anime has won at least one very serious culture award in Japan, and for good reason. This anime was very artfully done, and the ideas behind it, although creepy, are very powerful! Great to have on DVD! Go Pioneer!

Summary: Superb sci-fi suspense
Review: This title is a treat for aficionados of Japanese animation for the "mature" market, and would make a fantastic introduction to the genre for anyone who has had limited exposure to it before. "lain" bears certain resemblances to the excellent series "Key The Metal Idol," but with the creepiness/surreality factor cranked up full blast, a la "X-Files." "Navi" includes the first four episodes of the "lain" series, which, as it turns out, is just enough to uncover the underlying themes of the story without revealing much. The animation is simply rendered, but rich with visual subtext: lain's world is a world where shadows loom large, like giant oil slicks against antiseptic daylight; where the saccharine trappings of female adolescence are contrasted with the menace of death and the unknown; where telephone lines tower, constantly. The plot moves slowly, methodically, and the visuals establish a rhythm that is almost felt rather than seen. The central conflict of the story -- who, or what, is lain exactly? -- is something the viewer and the protagonist find out simultaneously, which has the function of really pulling the audience in. Pioneer is far and away the leader of the pack when it comes to North American DVD releases of anime, and "lain" is a fine example of their work. The supplementary materials on the DVD are not extensive, but they are fun. The English dubbing is very good (lain's father is a real standout in the English-language cast). Also, the introductory theme song (in English!) by the British band Boa is charming and catchy without being treacly, a real bonus. All in all a fantastic release.

Summary: Very intriguing start to a mystery.
Review: Based on the first four episodes on "Navi", this looks like it will be a very interesting cyber ghost story, with mysterious forces lurking in the background. I'm hooked, and can't wait to see more. The first installment is quietly and deliberately paced, with more mood than action (fans of action anime might find it boring.) I hope the rest of the story lives up to this beginning.

Summary: Incredible series, Incredible DVD
Review: Pioneer does it again with their Digital Remastering of DVDs! The series is as weird and deep and interesting as everyone says it is. Not only great animation (a lot of hi-tech computer graphics), but a great social commentary about the world and the cyberworld. PLEASE NOTE: I bought this from Amazon.com, and although it says only English Audio, it DOES have Japanese with English Subtitles.

Summary: Must-have Cyber-Mystery Drama
Review: This is an incredibly animated drama about the relationship between the "Wired World" and the real world, and how Lain is connected to it all. The story is very layered and in the beginning, may be confusing, but as the mystery unfolds, it becomes more and more intriguing and clear. The animation is absolutely gorgeous. I already have the fan-subtitled series but I MUST HAVE the DVD (Pioneer does an incredible job digitally mastering animes on DVD). That's how good it is. It's already won some National Cultural award in Japan.

Summary: Very trippy anime
Review: Very interesting (and sometimes confusing anime). Watched a few episodes of this series fansubbed around 4 months ago and wondered when it would be brought here to the US. Even better that Pioneer is selling both the DVD and VHS versions of this AS it is being released. Thank you Pioneer!

Review: I have read some reviews for lain that say that it is too hard to follow, and that they couldn't stomach the first episode. Neither could I. but than i watched the the next three.And than i watched them again... and then i kinda started too get it. and it blew my mind.
It says 16 and over on the box, but i think, purely content wise, it is a 13 and up. It features some profanity, but mostly just in the episode "religion".
BUY IT BUY IT!! it is so good.
