Summary: Oh My Goddess DVD (Volume 1)
Review: Oh My Goddess! DVD (Volume 1)
This series is a pretty good one. Not really your average anime. This has existing elements used in anime but, this has more to offer. I haven't seen an anime with Godesses! Yeah, I admit, it is yet another anime romance story but, this one is really sweet. Must see for anime fans!
DVD review
Poor picture. The picture seems very pixelated alot. The DVD release is barely over VCD and SVCD (1.5 to 2.5 Mbps) quality. The MPEG-2 encoding could have been alot better. Frankly, I have made MPEGs at 4 Mbps that look a hell of a lot better. Extras is B. Not much to really care for. Nice work with the angle feature. Angle 1 has the original Japanese Text for the intro and ending. Angle 2 is textless. (If you have subtitles completely off.)

Summary: Romantic, sweet, and very entertaining
Review: This Anime series was recommended to me by a friend. After taking a chance and purchasing the first volume DVD, I was very impressed. The storyline of Belldandy and Keiichi really draws you in, along with Belldandy's sisters Urd and Skuld, and even Keiichi's sister and friends adding to the entertaining factor of the series. The characters are fun and very likable, especially with the English voice actors for the series that really give the characters their personalities. After recently watching the last two episodes which should be released on DVD very soon, I love this series even more. Now it has become my favorite Anime/Manga series. A very emotional, charming, and unique love story. The series is only 5 episodes long, but for those who want more out of it, the movie will be released on DVD in November by Pioneer. This is one series that once you start watching it, you don't want to end. Very sweet story to watch as well as addicting.

Summary: Oh-My-God!....ess!
Review: Important link below for the fans!

I never thought that it would actually happen. They finally brought it over to DVD! Its pretty amazing that they made the OAV so short. From watching it for the first time I there would be much more than just 5 episodes! I can't complain though cause at least they animated the manga at all.

Now we get both Japanese and English dubs, subtitles, and the extras with the solid and reliable quality that we all expect from a DVD. I can't wait any longer, I'm just too excited!

Now if only they took out the AMG! Movie. That would be the best. I wonder why they didn't even release it on VHS? Kinda too late now cause its been...um...a few years since the OAV's VHS English dubs came out.

If you haven't even seen the manga for this series you are missing out on one of the greatest anime series of all time.

Now the link I promised. This leads to a fan-subbed Ah My Goddess Movie DivX video! (The only problem is that the sound and picture sucks - someone just put their DV camera on a tripod and filmed the TV...

Summary: Oh My Goddess on DVD?! AT LAST!
Review: After many years since the Oh My Goddes realease, alas, it makes it way onto DVD in the US... All hail its release...I would like to take this time to point out another fact that makes this DVD release heavenly sent (excuse the pun)...

Consider this: Anime is originaly made for a japanese audience. Oh! My Goddess is such a short series that commercial companies really don't HAVE to bring it over (for lack of making money). The only release we have had in the past is on VHS... you will save [considerably on DVDs] from what you would be paying before. And this total is actually the price that the Japanese paid for ONE DVD in their release of Oh My Goddess... Hmm, looks like we're making out on this, especially since we get BOTH the Japanese track AND the Dub on the disc, as well as some extras...

My only remark is that I was sad that the anime was so short, the manga had a much longer story... I won't complain. I love the series, and it's finally on DVD. Oh! My Goddess is definitely a gift sent from heaven.

Summary: No, it's not out yet, but it's bound to be good.
Review: The charming story of a common university student meeting up and building a relationship with the perfect, pure goddess after misdialing a phone number. A classic story to this day that shan't be forgotten...the show was on three, count 'em, THREE DVDs, on a 2/2/1 episode basis, and each SINGLE one costs as much as BOTH domestic DVDs combined.

Let us not forget that due to the way AnimEigo does their DVD authoring, they are restricted to using DVD-5s (single layer, single sided DVDs) only. Also, let us not forget they are busy and well at work with using the same video remastering magic they used on the recent Vampire Princess Miyu DVD, and are using on the Macross set. Lastly, let us also not forget that OMG! has first-rate visuals.

If they were to cram the whole set onto one DVD-5, with all the extras (...it's coming with extras. Shin Kurokawa even said so) with its limitations, we'd be stuck with one ugly release with blatant video artifacts all over the place. OMG! does not deserve this. The artwork needs a beautiful transfer.

Finally, as AnimEigo has hinted, this is getting some royal treatment, with great care being taken. A keeper and a definite classic. One of the best in its genre-- romantic comedy.

But I give it 4 stars... why? Sure, it's nice little series, but it's vastly inferior to its manga (comic book) counterpart-- I am spoiled by it. While this animated series only runs 5 episodes, its print counterpart is over _30_ times longer, more detailed, and simply more satisfying, being over 150 episodes long and still counting! 90 of these have yet been translated into english by Dark Horse Comics.

If you liked this show enough, felt empty after the conclusion, thirsty for more since it's so short, or want to know the characters more, don't run for the OMG! movie (it's not really designated to OAV fans), start reading the manga ASAP! You'll be glad you did.

Summary: Excellent OVA on two DVDs? Ridiculous!
Review: Let me start off by saying that I love "Oh My Goddess" and I was really looking forward to the series' DVD release. It is very sweet, funny and easily one of the most charmingly romantic series I have seen. I am most happy to spend some time with Belldandy, Keichi, Skuld and Urd.

That being said, I am shocked and disappointed to find that they split the series onto two DVDs, each for separate sale. The episodes are very short, totaling a little over an hour per DVD (I believe it is 82 minutes for Vol. 1, and 62 minutes for Vol. 2). There are no extra features included. Yikes! That's a lot for two and a half hours of viewing.

I find it hard to believe that Animego could not do more justice to this excellent series, or provide more value to their customers. The six-part "Moldiver" OAV managed to find it's way onto one well-priced DVD. How disappointing that "Oh My Goddess" could not do the same. I am sad to say that this is an excellent series to rent (but not to buy).

Summary: A Nice Break From Anime
Review: Oh, My Goddess or Ah, Megami-sama is a cute and endearing series which is a nice break from the repetitive bloodshed, giants robots, and transforming school girls. Don't get me wrong I love those shows to but this is a nice break away from that.

This is the story of a boy who is calling for take out, dials the wrong number, reaches the great beyond, and contacts a goddess who gets bound to him by the powers that be. The whole story revolves around their love and the problems that having a goddess in the house can present.

This is the ultimate masculine fulfilment series. Sort of like 'I dream of Jeanie only not as problematic'. The characters are very endearing, the music is brilliant, the animation is so beautifully done you will wish you were a part of the series. I highly suggest this for anyone. It's a beautiful romance film with a lot of chuckles in between.

Summary: A great series anime, but it can get a little expensive...
Review: Oh My Goddess! is, quite simply, a very enjoyable anime. Keiichi, a teenage boy is in the college dorms alone while his sempais are out. He misdials the phone when trying to order a pizza and accidentally calls the Goddess Help Line. Belldandy, a beautiful goddess, comes through the wall and tells Keiichi she will grant him one wish. Thinking this is all a prank by his sempais, Keiichi tells Belldandy he wants her to be with him forever, not knowing she's the real deal. His wish gets granted, and one thing leading to another, Keiichi gets kicked out of the dorms, and so the story starts.

The only real complaint I have is how only one episode was put per tape. At $14 a dubbed tape, this can get quite expensive. Even more so at the almost $20 per subtitled-version tape. The dubbed version is surprisingly good, so at least you can save a couple bucks and buy the dub.

Summary: cute.....
Review: Fujishima Kyosuke has got my vote for "Most Sugar-Coated OAV Writer of the Decade" award (Miyazaki would get "Most Sugar-Coated Writer"). Even his "villians" aren't very nasty -- more troublesome than truly evil. A!MG! is so sweet, that you'll want to keep your toothbrush handy. But I didn't find it sickening. In fact, A!MG! has the unique distinction of being the first videotape series that we've worn out to such a point that we've had to purchase three sets of tapes, and then the LD's. Why? It's because it's so nice, to the point of being idyllic. Morisato Keichi (Kikuchi Masami) is a fairly typical junior in college, who can't seem to find a girlfriend if his life depended on it. When Belldandy ends up being his constant companion, his own uncertainty and naivete really hinders his attempts to "put the moves" on his new female room-mate. To top it all off, add Megumi, his younger sister who's decided to move in because she'll be a junior in the same college as Keiichi (she has an especially memorable introduction!) Characterisations aside, the story is very simple -- your typical "boy meets girl goddess" script. Animation is nothing spectacular, but the detail of the backgrounds are good, and the colour choices are strikingly beautiful at times. Both the opening and closing themes are catchy, sung by the "Goddess Fan Club" (Inoue Kikuko, Tohma Yumi and Hisakawa Aya). Light comedy -- a good video to watch when you really want to escape. (An little trivia point to note -- those old temples you see featured in a lot of anime -- yes, the floors are damnned cold, even in the middle of summer.)
