Summary: Top quality animation, but lacking storyline
Review: When this movie was first released I heard a lot of good things about it and wanted to see it for myslef, but when I did I was extremely disappointed. First of all, there's no real storyline here, sure there's an over-all plot, but they don't take the time to get into the characters. Take Saya for example, I'm sure she could've been a very interesting character, but with the film being only 45 minutes, there's no chance for her to develop. They leave many questions unanswered, like if she's the last original vampire, then why does she work for the government to kill her own kind? And for that matter, how did vampires turn into the dumb beats we see in the film, and yet she remains looking like a human? The film being so short also takes away from the quality, but when you watch the trailer for it, you notice that there are several scenes shown that aren't in the film. For example, we see that agent Louis shooting at one of those monsters in some kind of warehouse, and we also see helicopters chasing after the plane that the last monster was trying to jump on to at the end. I know this film had a lot of potential, but because of the way it was made and edited there's a lot left out that could've made it ten times better. I'm not sure if it came out the makers had hoped, but I found it very disappointing. The only thing that saves it is the animation and sound effects, both of which are pretty flawless. But if you're looking for a more detailed vampire related manga that delivers, try out Vampire Hunter D or it's sequel Bloodlust.

Review: Save yourself some money and a stale aftertaste in the mouth. This DVD should have NEVER reached the market. The story is poor and shallow; the animation is nothing to write home about. This short episode - did you think you were getting a complete story?, is a huge blunder on Manga's part. Do NOT believe for one instant James Cameron's glowing review slapped on the cover! "The standard of top quality in digital animation"? Yeah right! Next!

Summary: Would be good as a pilot episode.
Review: I was quite impressed with Blood the Last Vampire. However its very short (45mins) and written like a pilot episode. It simply isnt long enough and doesnt go into enough detial to be a stand alone film. If this was a pilot episode with more episodes to come then I'd give it the resounding jaw-dropping 5 star review it deserves.. but since its a one off, never to be continued deal it just isnt enough... in the end though i recommend this on its artistic merit alone..but! if you mainly get anime for the storylines and nothing else then pass this one by.

Summary: Blood Excels
Review: Despite a real clunker of a title, Blood is a surprisingly excellent movie. This anime was created deftly by Production I.G., which is both blessed with veteran Mamoru Oshii ("Ghost in the Shell", "Angel's Egg") on staff, and, at the same time, a fair share of the hottest up-and-coming Young Turks of the anime industry. Blood is a great success for I.G., for it includes two important components: great action, and great art. The first thing I noticed was that this anime looked spectacular. The animation is clearly created through a computer, so it looks smooth, a little glossy, and very unique. However the art is all dark hues, genius shading, and captivating imagery. I can't even imagine what watching the original "Vampire Hunter D" would be like after seeing this movie, as Blood is such a stunning improvement on the animated horror genre. It is one of the few works that reinvents its niche in the industry. Complementing the animation is the plotline, which is not nearly as simple as it would seem. There are complex themes of imperialism at work here, as the scenery and subtle artistic elements will tell you, though the dialog will not. Topping things off the action is good, carried along by the Oshii-esque suspenseful pacing. I've not been much of an anime horror fan in the past, but this anime and "Boogiepop Phantom" have changed things. Overnight, it seems animated horror has advanced from sex and violence to a sophisticated, mature genre. Cheers to that!

Review: The animation is really good but the movie begins in n odd way. And it ends leaving you confused.

Summary: Techincal masterpiece? True. Is that enough? No.
Review: I got this movie after a couple of recommendations... and I sure am regretful of doing so. I would have done much better without this piece in my collection. Sure, Blood is one of the movies with the best visuals... technically speaking. When it comes to art, it's something different. They're not up to their job. It's sure pretty and everything, but it's not enough. The visuals really lack a certain life to them, not just the technical value. But what about everything else? The sound is just forgettable. There's not one track that stayed in my head for more than a coupld seconds. Sound, however, isn't it's biggest fault: It's the story, or lack thereof. It starts with Saya killing someone, then going to school, then killing some more things. After the hangar sequence, I was saying "This movie might really pick off from now on!"... and the next scene were the ending credits. It just feels as if it was axed at the middle. Not that the part that you can see makes sense, though... Characters aren't introduced, nor they seem to have a soul... I frankly couldn't care about what happened to them. In the end, I not only can't recommend this, but I strongly suggest to steer clear of it. I've always valued story over style, and style over technical merit. Sadly, this one lacks any story or style.

Summary: Not what I had expected, but most excelent none the less...
Review: I just watched Blood for the first time and was completely amazed! The animation was tip-top, setting the feel and mood all the way through.
The reason I did not give this Five stars is mainly because I agree with a lot of people in that I wanted to see and experiance a LOT more of this story. But that aside, I think the story that is there is acctually quite good and should be aplauded for the openness of the ending. It allows you to draw your own conclusions.
At its base, I think the plot is what I have below. Twist it a bit and the end does make sense in a way...
American government working with a creature to destory others like it, and in the end you can see that the killer does not really hate what it is killing, but for its own reasons does just that... I guess that's a little vauge, but it really struck with me and I think people should fly with their own wings on it ^_^
So yeah, get this film!
