Summary: Blood the last great anime
Review: If you want to watch an anime with great animation, watch this movie. The story could have been defined better, but the animation will keep you captivated. If you are the kind of person who watches Japanimation you will agree, this is a great flick. The problem with this movie is it'll leave you wanting more.

Summary: Short... but very potent...
Review: Blood is a reckless thrill ride that starts fast, gives you just enough time to catch your breath before it careens you down another rollercoaster sequence... it suceeds more in evoking a dark mood and ambiance than giving you every motivation for every character in what they think and feel.. you literally feel like you've been dropped into the middle of what's happening and you have to try to play catch up and figure exactly what's going on.. and I enjoyed not being spoonfed every plot turn ahead of time like some anime's do.. it might be considered a guilty pleasure as opposed to many multi-volume animes.. but it's one that I'm happy to indulge in..

Summary: Blood... hmm. Flows like Niagara...
Review: I have just watched the film about ten minutes ago (4:33am Saturday, Sept. 8th 2001) and I must say: No hype there!
I am generous enough to give it two stars because of the special effects (which conduct 80% of the film) and because the mother of this film is the same as the mother that brought to life: "Ghost In The Shell". The story (what story?) begins in the middle of a first degree murder commited by a minor and ends in the exact same position (only without the girl, she... left town). The blood flows all right... Flows at the same speed my patience ran away about twenty-five minutes into the film. It lacks story (big time) and has nothing going towards it besides hopes for more blood and gore. Very unimpressive and I leave u with only one thing left to say: Please cover for this film with a sequel that makes sense! PLEASE!

Summary: Short and badass
Review: Movie was short only 45 minutes hardly a movie and most of it is her running around for the demons but it was badass visually
wish my ghost in da shell would hurry the hell up

Summary: Fantastic Thriller!
Review: Even with its somewhat brief running time, this is one of the best Anime I have ever seen. The characters were intense and believable, the story was simple, but incredibly effective, and the music is absolutely amazing.

The story, focusing on a seemingly minor battle in a war against Vampires takes place on an American Air Force base in Japan circa 1966. One of the things I really appreciate about this movie is that it made the Vampires seem scary and violent. This, of course, is quite a departure from how Vampires appear in most modern works of fiction. There was a constant air of danger surrounding the protagonists involvement with the Vampires and that made for some compelling viewing.

Also, the animation itself, which was rendered digitally is astounding. I found myself constantly mesmerized by the way scenes were framed and rendered. Voice work is top notch too. I think the film was produced with English AND Japanese and the English work is not over the top as most of us have come to expect from Anime. I hope to see more work by the creators of this piece.

Summary: Short but Sweet
Review: As a fan of 'One Tape Anime' I thoroughly enjoyed Blood - The Last Vampire. The animation is superior in quality, with the CG not being blatently obvious. The fact that the movie is partially done in English is thrilling - and I mean that it's not dubbed, but that the voice actors were picked for their ability to be bilingual. This puts a new spin on what vampires are and how they operate. I do hope they put out a sequal.

Summary: Hopefully not the last of the series.
Review: I found this movie by recommendation of a friend, who said it is an awesome anime flick. After getting home, I eagerly popped it in, being a big fan of the vampire genre. The beginning was like many animes that I've seen; you're thrown into the middle of something and slowly are brought up to speed. In Blood, you have to watch carefully to catch exactly what is going on; nothing is told outright. The animation is breath-taking and the audio makes a nice compliment. It really shows off the beauty of DVDs. The story all in all is VERY brief (43 minutes or somewhere around there, minus the credits) leaving you wondering what the other 40 minutes or so is supposed to be that was mentioned on the back of the box. That's my only real complaint about this. Throughout the story, many possible sub-plots are brought up but are never touched on. This left me wanting more. Despite what others have said, Saya is characterized fairly well although she is mysterious like many other characters of the genre (Vampire Hunter D comes to mind). The story is quickly paced and doesn't have much of a slow-down to it. As I said, the only real complaint I had about the movie was it's length. With any luck, there will be more sequels made. So if you're into the whole anime/vampire genre, this is a must have. Hope this is of use to someone out there.

Summary: A very mixed bag.
Review: I beautiful piece of Anime that was crippled by being way to short. The worst part is Manga misrepresents this as a full length 83 minute film. The fact is its only 45 minutes long.

The visuals are excellent and the two major battle sequences are action packed. The problem is there is no character development and no time is spent to really flesh out any kind of storyline. What could have been a masterpiece is reduced to a action fest that is over before it really starts.

Its worth a rental, but I can't recommend it to any but the most hard core Anime fans. The film did not live up to the hype.

Summary: Short but Sweet
Review: In a time when animated movies are becoming more and more frequent, some surprisingly good (Atlantis) but most others mediocre at best (Shrek), Japan has offered us Blood: The Last Vampire and has taken a giant leap in the right direction. Spear-headed by Mamoru Oshii and the Oshii Team, BTLV uses digital technology to create a truly unique anime experience. The look of the film is simply incredible, with some shots that look almost photo realistic, and the picture quality on the DVD suffers very little (if at all).
The characters in the film are some of the most memorable. Saya, despite being dressed in a stereotypical Japanese high school uniform (though it is for story purposes), comes across as a pretty cool character all her own. The demons come across as a unique hybrid of your traditional monsters, and they look pretty frightening when crawling around on all fours.
Most other aspects of the film are excellent. Great cinematography and lighting, superior music (by Yoshihiro Ike) and sound, and a great setting/atmosphere. However, the film has two major drawbacks. First is the underdeveloped story. It's a short film (about 45 min), so you have to infer a lot from what you see. Though I think you learn enough from what is shown to get a clear picture of some of the backstory. The second drawback is that it is very short. I wish it was longer because it's so darn cool!
Judging by most of the other reviews, people hated it because it's not like other anime movies, but my question is: why should they all be alike? I'm glad the makers of BTLV decided to put atmosphere before action and try something else besides the normal hyperkinetic anime.
If you're interested in anime and digital animation and if you don't mind an interesting story packed into a short time frame, then you should give BTLV a look.

Summary: Works as a pilot episode for a series, but not as a movie
Review: Blood seems to have been over-hyped. While visually pretty (featuring lots of macho animation which doesn't advance the storyline), it does not present a coherent story. Instead, it introduces characters and a little interaction and a lot of hinting... and feels like nothing so much as a pilot episode to a series.

By itself, Blood is a frustrating entity due to its enormous lack of completion. If this doesn't turn into a series, its creators will have wasted a lot of time and talent on a gorgeous dead end.
