Summary: Must have for dbz fans
Review: It's simple it's all about what happened in (future) trunks's past. It starts out when he is a baby and goku dies from the terrible heart disease, even vageta is shocked! Several months later the androids 17 and 18 arrive and kill one by one all of earth's special forces except for gohan. With no one left but him and trunks, he goes out and fights the androids alone. 10 years later trunks is dying to be trained and gohan begin's the harshest training trunks has ever been in. It is a must have, very dramatic. It shows you what kind of bond trunks and gohan had and why trunks hates the androids to the extent that he will not give them a second chance to think they're a bit differen't than the androids he fought even though they said they didn't want to kill anyone but goku (in the android saga). I have both english and japanese versions and the english has the best music for the very dramatic scenes it portrays.

Summary: This is a great movie
Review: I have seen this movie and must say that it is one of the best Dragonball Videos dubbed so far.The Two Japanessee TV Specials, Trunks Special and Bardock Special, are supposedly some of the best the three Dragonball Series has to offer. I do not have access to Japanessee Videos and if I did, I would have no chance of owning one. I have read and would love to see all the Dragonball/Z/GT episodes and specials, but I am just forced to wait for these dubbs that FUNimation edits untill it can make the NAMECK SAGA, look like just a jumbled mess of the same monotonus story without realizing that this saga illustrates a large contrast between good and evil. I have seen and read fractions of this information on websites and I am glad to see that there are two dubbs that are dramatic, tell a good story, and put together more pieces of the Dragonball world. If you want the best Dragonball dubbs out there, then buy The History of Trunks and Bardock the Father of Goku.

Summary: A Recommended Buy
Review: I would recommend this tape to people who aren't as uptight about Funimation's dubbing process of DBZ, sorry but if your a really big fan of DBZ there isn't any of the orginal music or dialog in this tape. However that doesn't make it totally useless. The current soundtrack suffices just as well as with the original version and the american dialog isn't bad. I would recommend it to any Trunks fan who wants to know what went on in Trunk's time period. This tape has some really emotional scenes in it. Although the Japanease version has a bit more edge I still recommend it. And if your a fan who wants to see the orginal version of The History of Trunks wait for the DVD which will be out in Mid-December of this year. I for one can't wait for the DVD! Besides Funimation has to have some extra features to sell on their Dragonball Z DVDs. The DVDs will include the original Background Music as well as English Subtitles and you might also discover the magic of the orginal DBZ opening "Cha-La-Head-Cha-La."

Summary: Wow!
Review: I'll start with the best part about FUNimation's latest foray into DBZ dubbing; the music. Being a long time fan of DBZ, and a fairly recent fan of Dream Theater's own special brand of progressive metal, I absolutely adored the soundtrack. Almost every time a battle broke out I could hear the song in the background and say "Hey, I have that CD!".

The actual voices were done pretty well. Most of FUNimation's bad work is with the older characters (presumably because they are copying the old ocean group voices) which are not present in the video. Trunks sounds great, Gohan actually sounds sort of like his dad as an adult, and they didn't try to make Bulma sound old. The androids sound as cold-hearted and mechanical as ever.

The plot is also great. It's fun to get a little background onto what happened to Trunks BEFORE he arrived in his time machine. My only complaint is the length. It's only about as long as two episodes, making it comparable to the first Dragon Ball Z movie. However, I still recommend this to any fan of the series, except maybe those who aren't satisfied until they are watching a totally japanese, subtitled episode (you know who you are).

Summary: Wait for the DVD
Review: Face it people..... Funimation will never get better. The voices are terrible and the BGM is atrocious. Wait for the DVD with the original japanese version and stop wasting your money on the tapes.

Summary: Awesome movie
Review: This movie shows what would happen to the dbz world we know if Trunks would have not gone back .It is awesome whan Trunks becomes a Super Sayain .Trunks asks Gohan( last surviving member of the Z fighters) to train him,but Bulma doesnt like the idea at all .The Androids have a slight different personality .19 , 20,and 16 are not Known in this world .This movie will make your heart turn .If you get the uncut versian & thinking its too expensive ,well its worth your money believe me!I suggest if your a new or an old fan you should get it!

Summary: How WORSE can it get?
Review: I see a lot of the reviews upfront are from people that have only seen the original japanese version. And they are right, it is great. But if there is an example of how bad funimation can screw up Dragonball Z this video has got to be it. The soundtrack is terrible and annoying, the constant loud jamming of electric guitars not only sounds louder than the voices and attacks all the time, but whoever decided that the music was in mood with the scene being played should be fired. This is almost a guitar jam music video, and the voices don't match those of the regular funimation dragonball z videos, with the exception of the androids. Don't waste your time buying this, better get the original japanese version, at least the soundtrack there is in mood with the scenes. Funimation took a good DBZ movie and tried to make it too kid's friendly. This is a sad story by design, and the japanese version reflects that. I know now I won't be buying the Bardock special from Funimation when they release it.

Summary: a good, solid story for DBZ fans
Review: in general, i refuse to watch the americanized versions of dragonball z episodes and movies. too often they are altered dramatically from their japanese counterparts to appeal to a younger audience. however, this is one video that stays true almost completely to the japanese version, and with good results. this special contains probably the most emotional moments one will ever see in dragonball z, and a damn good amount of action as well. the only drawback to this video is its length-under 50 minutes. it is well worth the cost, however, and has a great deal of replay value. anyone who considers themselves a true dbz fan should pick this one up. or if you're just starting to view dbz, this is a great way to make you a fan. and if you like this special, look for the bardock story later on this month; it's even better, and essential to the dragonball universe.

Summary: This is the story of a messed up future
Review: I enjoyed this movie mainly because it doesn't have your typical Dragonball Z plot in it. Usually it is Goku who saves the day. Well Goku doesn't save the day, in fact the day isn't saved at all. The music was real different from the series. I liked the music in this alot better. The androids 17 and 18 were a little different in personality. In the series they weren't all that bad, but in this they were cruel killers. The only thing I didn't like about this movie is that it was so short. If your a Trunks fan you will want this.
