Summary: Neon Genesis Evangelion DVD 3
Review: Neon Genesis Evangelion is, in my opinon, by far the best anime series out there! The three episodes on this DVD are arguable the best in the series, second in my mind only to the last three epsidoes. If you only buy one DVD this year, BUY THIS ONE!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good series
Review: Of the first 3 DVD this one has been the best. This is offset by the fact that there are only 3 episodes rather than 4 on it. If these DVD's were the price of regular DVD's then it would not be so bad. But anime is one of the most expensive of all the buy.
The episodes themselves are quick good. They show some different aspecs of the Angels and also some small ideas about them. The characters are all changing as the series goes along and for the most part the animation itself is quite good. There are only a couple of places where they have every character doing the same movement and moving at the same time.
This is a quality series and if you are enjoying it then buy this one for sure.

Summary: "Your innocent eyes as yet have no idea"
Review: On this third collection of Evangelion (episodes 9 through 11), Asuka commands most of the attention. Which is no surprise, considering that the young woman from Germany is still looking to prove she is the best of the three pilots. Her interplay with Shinji and Rei shows that her overweening pride is simply a mask to hide deeper insecurities, yet her fierce bravery is undeniable in these episodes.

The first of the three tales finds Asuka and Shinji pitted against an Angel (Israphel) who can magically duplicate itself when it is under attack. After a failed first effort, the two EVA pilots must learn to coordinate their efforts perfectly. Considering how little they like each other this may be harder than destroying the Angel. It certainly is funnier.

Next, NERV scientists discover an Angel embryo (Sandalphon) deep in the lava of an active volcano. Asuka, deprived of a chance to go on a class trip, is determined to destroy it on her own... If she can just get over the embarrassment of her special heat-resistant suit. Misato's determination puts Asuka in severe danger and the outcome is in doubt to the very end.

The final episode finds NERV headquarters in darkness due to human sabotage. Without power, Shinji, Asuka, and Rei must break into NERV to get to the EVAs before they can face an acid wielding Angel (Matriel) determined to liquefy Tokyo-3.

These episodes show the EVA pilots at their best and their worst. We do get a tiny glimpse of whatever it is that motivates Asuka's abrasive bravado, and how this balances and contrasts with Rei's calm acceptance and willingness to do whatever is needed. Poor Shinji, cursed with a brilliant but cold and distant father finds himself attracted and bewildered by both. Writer/director Hidako Anno again uses short glimpses, rather than long exposition to build interest. This enables him to accomplish a great deal of layering of story, development and symbol in the sparse context of the Anime medium.

Summary: Enjoy it now. It gets serious later.
Review: Out of all the DVDs of Evangelion, this by far is the most hilarious one. After Auska's arrival, things get weird. First, Shinji and Auska have to doulbe team an angel which means they have to live together. The next epiosde is even more entising as Auska shows off her new bathing suit to Shinji. And things get a little perverted at the spa. However, if your looking for a less silly epiosde, episode 11 on the disc is a little better. Tokyo goes completely out of power and NERV is hot and in the dark. The only silly moment I could find in this episode was when Auska kicked Shinji for looking up her skirt. This volume is more of a charcter devolpment rather than intrique. But you might as well relish it. After this point, there is bearly any silliness at all. There is the most popular scene on this disc though where Shinji and Auska fight to classical music. That was the best part on the whole disc. I do not know what Bios are going to be on the disc, but I can assume that there will be bios on Gendo and Kaji. I hope ADV continues in this tradition.

Summary: The Deeper You Go...
Review: The more involved in the story you become. In this disc, we see more of Commander Ikari's true nature, which really is not what you'd expect from a father. He ruthlessly gets what he wants, no matter what. Wonderful episodes add more and more to this excellent anime series.

The DVD quality is stunning. The sound is perfect, the score is wonderfully poetic and violent at the same time, and I cannot praise this any more. Go buy it!

Summary: The condition of Music
Review: The NGE series is, in one word, amazing. It is a completely original take on the Christian myth of the Apocalypse. Based on an amazingly insightful interpretation of the entire body of mideval christian scholarship, the dead sea scrolls, and post-modern theory, NGE is haunting, beautiful, and insightful. It is visually amazing, emotionally challenging, and spiritually astounding. As a Christian, I dare to say that this helped me explore and expand my faith. As a fan of Japanese cartoons, I say that this is pretty damn cool. As a human being, I say that this is mind-blowing. It is too easy today to say that nothing more can be said about God, Man, or their relationships. Neon Genisis proves that there is indeed something new under the sun.

Summary: Don't regret not seeing this anime after life
Review: This is quite possibly the best fantasy ever devised on the face of the planet. It has large unique mecca, nifty technology, emotional byplay, philosophical questions, great characters, unique music, great artwork... you name it it's got it. If you love anime watch it! If you hate anime watch it! Be warned though it looks deceptively simple at first. To get its full effect you must be willing to watch the entire series.

Summary: Better and Better!
Review: This was my favorite DVD until I reached 0:5, mainly becuase it made me feel even more sorry for Shinji. The next Angel appears but it has two "hearts" so Shinji and Asuka must learn to fight as one to defeat both cores at once. This means both children have to SLEEP TOGETHER (what could happen there?) and wear tanktops and possibly short-shorts (I'm not sure on that)! They defeat it eventually with their combined strength but the action doesn't end there (nor does the comedy)!
In the next episode, Asuka is refused permission to go to Okinawa with her class by Misato. Asuka, throughly ticked off, feels she isn't treated right. In a pool, Shinji tries to understand physics. Asuka gives him a college crash-course (seeing how she finished college that year) which is actually a lesson on how when an object is heated, it gets bigger. (...)
During the rest of the episode, Asuka has to defeat an Angel in a volcano and in the third episode, all three Children have to defeat an acid-emiiting Angel above NERV HQ.

In all: this is the continued standard of the first two and doesn't lessen their quality at all. Extras still suck but that's enough to put up with when you're watching the Best Anime in My Humble Opinion!

Summary: Latest and much anticipated Evangelion DVD from ADV Films
Review: This will be the third DVD in the series. I already own the entire series on VHS and VCD and am now building the collection on DVD. I have already purchased the first two volumes on DVD and they are well worth it. For those fortunate enough to own any kind of surround system (like myself, Full Dolby Digital Surround 5+1), you will find these absoultely breathtaking. If you are considering buying than consider getting the first two volumes first "take my word for it". It is said that there were scenes cut from the original import VHS versions that only appeared on the Laserdisc version in Japan. With the added features on DVD Im almost sure that sooner or later ADV will be sure to include the deleated scenes (they appear later down the line, so dont worry). As a serious fan of the Evangelion series I bought the Dubbed version and Subtitled versions on VHS, now you have your choice with DVD. The VHS versions come packed with two episodes as opposed to the four on each DVD+ added extras. If you own a DVD player and like the series or are new to Japanese Animation you are better off to invest in the DVD version. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. As far as the content of this new release I see that the other reviews listed here are right on and I take my hat off to whoever wrote them. The most memorable part is definately the musical fight scene (Its good enough to give Fantasia a run for the money, its extremely well done)!! I hope that they continue the release of Evangelion on DVD as well.
