Summary: RIVETING!
Review: First of all this movie had a good introduction that kept my attention. The actors Mekhi Phifer and Delroy Lindo did a great job. So did Isiah Washington. I think this movie is one of those hood classics that should rank up there with Menace II Society and Boyz N The Hood. If you think it's that kind of movie though, you're wrong. Because this movie is set in a different location and different situations. I think this movie has a greater message than Menace II Society, bout equal with Boyz n The Hood. The movie kept my attention well and I thought all the characters were believable. This movie is more like a cop and robber/crime drama more than Boyz N The Hood or anything. I think everyone should go rent this movie and watch it and then write a review about it. I would even like people to e-mail about this movie.

Review: Highlights: Harvey Keitel's, Mekhi Phifer's and Delroy Lindo's amazing performances; the tightest script ever written by Spike Lee; philosophical themes well-developed; candidly brutal depictions of the projects, with all their crack dealers and lack of aspiration.Lowpoints: The musical score at times gets a little too overwhelming; Clockers' pace falters, but that's to be expected from a Spike Lee joint, and Clockers is the most successful venue on his resume yet. Conclusion: A fine, powerful drama that deals with the life of a young man, born in the projects and trying to make a living from dealing crack cocaine. The acting is exceptional, particularly Harvey Keitel's, who always mesmerizes and here delivers a performance that, in terms of intensity, could only be compared to his work in Abel Ferrarra's Bad Lieutenant. The characters are spot-on, the script sizzles, and there are scnes that will make viewers choke on tears of compassion. SEE THIS IF YOU LIKED: Do the Right Thing, Menace II Society, Baby Boy.

Summary: Spike Lee's Best Film
Review: I don't know that film critics would agree with me, but this is clearly Spike Lee's best film (in my humble opinion). It's the only film he's made in which he apparently felt no need to hit us over the head with his message (something he is known for that I wish he would stop - he just doesn't trust the intelligence of his audience). In "Clockers" he allows issues to reveal themselves in much more naturalistic ways through the characters and their simple, yet convoluted lives. This is a truly spectacular film that will withstand the test of time and earn a place in the phrase, "one of the best films ever made." Spike Lee shines here as the incredible artist he is. I am rarely so touched by a film that it actually makes me shed tears, but I was sobbing by the end of this one. Bravo Spike! I'm so proud that you continue to work and shine in a Hollywood system that isn't always kind.

Summary: Wonderful movie
Review: I first watched this movie several years ago. It has since then maintained a place in my mind as one of the better Spike Lee movies ever made. I often wonder why it has not gained more notoriety when compared to movies such as School Days and others of his lesser works. I think that this movie is far less heavy handed and judgemental than Spikes movies normally are. And this use of subtlety allows you to understand how each of the characters is feeling.

Summary: they did justice to the book, plus
Review: I read the book a few years ago, just before the movie was made. I especally liked Mr. Phifer, plsying the role of Strike, and the actor that played his older brother. The stars can be split evenly between them, with one left over for Mr. Turturro. Just because I happen to like him.

Summary: my 1st spike lee movie.. and i loved it
Review: i rented this movie because i wanted to see a 'who done it' in the hood movie. what i got was much, much more than a simple murder mystery. the main characters are really well developed, as i watched, i felt their pains and joys(more pain than joy). they had motivation behind their actions, had a past, and had future plans. a clocker is a person who deals drugs day in, day out. always on the clock, doing his job. when a former clocker is found brutally murdered, the police are notified and a man (isaiah washington) eventually turns himself in for the crime. but its not as simple as that. the man is a good samaritan, but his brother (mekhi phifer) is a known clocker. the man has a wife and kids, his brother seems to have neither. a homicide detective (harvey keitel) is determined to find the truth... he believes that the clocker is the killer and the family man is innocent. the movie is so much more than your average murder mystery. there are powerful images that will stay in your mind; actions and words that linger long after the movie has ended. the dialogue is good; it moves the story along nicely. there is not a dull moment in this movie at all. every scene held my attention as i wondered what was going to happen next. the moving score by terence blanchard plays at key moments in the movie making it a truly emotional and enjoyable ride. after renting the movie, i headed straight to the store and bought a copy. this movie deserves to be watched again and again. spike lee did an absolutely amazing job directing this picture. phifer plays his part well in a stunning debut. the film also stars delroy lindo and john tuturro.

Summary: An underrated classic
Review: I think this is one of Spike Lee's best films - it deftly balances a compelling murder mystery with a wider portrait of the people, both innocent and less so, whose lives are warped by their community's decay in ways both obvious and subtle. The movie juggles a cast of a round dozen characters seemingly effortlessly, and with enough skill and density that you feel like you know them far better than their actual screen time would warrant. The cast is first-rate, the acting is excellent, the direction keeps the story moving at an exciting clip, and the music is a perfect balance of hip-hop beats with a more traditional score. Most importantly, the story veers away from exploitation and glamorization. Strike's miserable condition and his endless ulcers give us a portrait of a confused and misdirected life that feels sadly plausible. What's really interesting is how Lee enlists the setting of the movie as a sort of omnipresent background character - his camera is always roving around, showing us the little details, from the cyclone fencing to the burnt-out neon signs, that make up a ghetto. By the end of the movie, we know the charred landscape well enough to experience firsthand Strike's profound relief upon his eventual escape from it.

Summary: Fair to middlin'
Review: I'd probably like this movie a lot better if I didn't feel it was such a disservice to the novel it's based on. Delroy Lindo does give a standout performance as Rodney, but I just wasn't that impressed with Keitel. I guess it's a testament to Price when I say that the Rocco Klein of his novel felt more lifelike, more deeply conflicted, and more rounded than Keitel's Klein seemed on screen. I found it irritating that there were certain surreal elements added to the script which seemed to compromise the grittiness of the story. The additions didn't make the movie funnier, they just made it strange. As a side note, less than ten years old, the soundtrack already seems incredibly dated. Don't even rent this one, go read it. If you're dead set on spending your loot, buy two copies of "Do the Right Thing."

Review: Next to Malcolm X, Clockers ranks as Spike Lee's best film. Gritty and hard-hitting, this street crime drama packs soul. I've watched it at least 5 times and never tire of it. The performances are top-notch, directing on target, and the score mesmerizing. On Par with LA Confidential or better.
