Review: I don't care what you say, Martin Lawrence is just damn hilarious! Blue Streak is another example of why we keep coming back for more of Martin - and regardless of what other's say, the Pizza guy in the beginning of the movie was one of the funniest scenes in the whole flick!The only disappointment for me was the ending of this movie... it was a bit of a let-down. But I'll still watch this movie a million times, because it's classic Martin Lawrence. Take this movie for what it is: COMEDY! Martin is a funny man that does great characters, and really, that's what this movie adds up to. No one can deliver like he does. Does it matter that he plays similar characters in most of his movies? Does it matter than much of the play and plots are the same? Does it matter that his delivery is pretty predictable? HECK NO! Because each time, no matter how many times you've seen him do it, Martin is hilarious - PERIOD. I searched for this movie all over, and finally had to order it on-line because it's not available to buy anymore. I'll watch it over and over, because with Martin Lawrence, that's what you do.

Summary: (3-1/2 stars) Doesn't he play the same guy in every movie?
Review: Martin Lawrence seems to play a cop or other law-enforcement-type who's on the side of right and wrong simultaneously in most of his movies. Check out this, Bad Boys, Big Momma's House, or National Security (the previews of that aren't even funny) to see what I mean. And the plot of this movie is kind of complicated. Martin plays Miles Logan, a bank robber who left some of his loot in a securely-guarded office building, and he somehow gets recruited by the FBI or CIA by giving the impression that he's clean and that he just wants to recover the loot. He is then given a partner, and the two of them go through a string of wild adventures trying to get the loot because some of Miles' thuggish friends get their hands on it. This movie wasn't a complete waste of time or anything. I thought it was funny when some hoodlums confront Miles and his partner, and Miles denies being authoritative. The thugs don't believe him, so they tell him to shoot his supposed partner, and he says 'No problem' and then easily shoots him in the shoulder. But I think the end of the movie was weird. You'll have to see it to understand what I mean. But next time, Martin, see if you can get a script that has you playing a different character. But then again, that's what happened with Black Knight. (*sigh*)

Summary: Martin Lawrence in an action comedy where neither is forced
Review: Our public library recently started a DVD collection providing patrons with the opportunity to check out classic films like "Citizen Kane," "Seven Samurai," "Lawrence of Arabia," "Mickey Mouse in Color," and "Blue Streak." If that last one is rather surprising given the select company imagine our amazement when Martin Lawrence makes it through this 1999 action comedy virtually profanity free. Like "The Wedding Planner" for Adam Sandler, "Blue Streak" shows Lawrence that less is more. The story is that once upon a time there was a jewel thief named Miles Logan (Lawrence), who heisted a $20 million jewel which he had to hide on a construction site right before he was popped. Two years later he returns to the site only to discover it is the new LAPD Police Headquarters and the only way to get inside is if you are a cop. So, Logan becomes a cop. To the surprise of his colleagues, the viewers and even himself, he turns out to be a pretty good burglary detective (after all, the man is a professional), and the best part of "Blue Streak" is when Logan does the serve and protect bit while his new found colleagues express their growing admiration. These are a lot better than his get up for the pizza delivery scam, but no one involved in the production seemed to notice this was totally out of place with the entire rest of the film. For the most part "Blue Streak" is quite enjoyable, with neither the humor nor the action being forced, with the aforementioned exception. We put this movie on expecting a raunchy little late night comedy and ended up enjoying it (half way through we stopped saying, hey, this is a lot better than I thought it was going to be). This may well be the Martin Lawrence movie for people who do not like Martin Lawrence.

Review: Martin Lawrence is awesome as the Jewel Thief Miles Logan. this movie has comedy, action, thriller written all over it. it is a great comedy. i never get tired of watching it. i love Martin Lawrence's work. he is hilarious and when him and Tulley get together he is so good. this is my favorite movie.

Summary: Things They Are A'Changing.
Review: I admit, I'm not a very big fan of Martin Lawrence. I don't find his type of humor very funny and do find it crude, unoriginal, and rude. Unlike, say Richard Pryor, there is no wit in Lawrence's comedy. He goes for the lowest level of humor and does not seek any depth or to grow. However, I was pleasantly surprised by BLUE STREAK. The film stars Lawrence as a jewel thief named Logan who is sent to jail when a heist goes sour. He hides the jewel in a building under construction, but when he returns to the site two years later after serving his time in the pen, he discovers the building to be the site of a new police headquarters. So, he goes "undercover" as a cop to get his "baby" back and along the way nabs crooks and impresses the rest of the force. The premise of the movie has been done before, but for the most part works here. However, the movie works best when Lawrence is interacting with other actors. When left by himself, the action halts and the film loses continuity (like in the pizza delievery scene). Nevertheless, the movie does have a few moments and rises above it's major flaws.

Review: My 9 year old son loved this movie so we just bought it on DVD. This movie has lots of action and a great plot. Lots of really funny scenes. The humor can be somewhat adult. The movie is about a guy (martin Lawrence) who steals a diamond then hides it in a building under construction. When he gets out of prision this ex-con goes to collect the loot he stashed only to find the building became a police station. He goes undercover as a cop to find the goods. This movie has all the makings of a good action movie like die hard, james bond, etc. but yet also is a great comedy. Martin Lawrence did a movie last year (big mommas house) that was of a similar type comedy/action genre. This movie was better than big mommas house.

Summary: classic Martin Lawrence!
Review: Martin Lawrence is absolutely hilarious as a jewel thief who hides a diamond in a construction site right before he is caught and sent to jail. A few years later, he gets out and heads to the site to get the still-undiscovered gem, only to realize that the site is now a police station. The temper tamtrum he throws up and down the street in front of the station --- with cops watching -- is worth the price alone! After numerous attempts to get in as a pizza delivery man, among other things, Lawrence passes himself off as a new detective and gets to train a rookie cop (Luke Wilson). Because he knows the criminal mind so well (as well as the criminals he encounters on the job), he is seen as a seasoned pro from whom all the cops can learn (as their supervisor says of him "You don't get that kind of training at the Academy!") This is hilarious, I recommend it for anyone looking to laugh real hard for a long time!

Review: This movie is hilarious! If everyone would stop comparing it to "Beverly Hills Cop", they would agree with me. Dont get me wrong, Beverly Hills Cop was a great movie- just different from Blue Streak. If you like "Bad Boys" or "Big Mommas House", you will surely like this.

Summary: ...comedy's best feature is its short running time
Review: I am not a fan of director Les Mayfield, who has brought us such ... fare as Flubber and Encino Man. I am always willing to change my opinion of someone's abilities, especially if it's a negative opinion. In this case, my view of Mr. Mayfield remains the same. The best thing to me about Blue Streak is that it is a very short movie. I decided to start this review off with these comments because people differ so much over what they find funny. So, Flubber fans can stop now reading now. The movie starts with a spectacular heist. Miles Logan [Martin Lawrence] and his cronies are lowering themselves into a skyscraper from its roof. Object: a $17,000,000 diamond. As ambitious as this opening is, it is remarkably similar to high-tech robberies in recent movies like Entrapment and The Thomas Crown Affair. The reason for this is obvious to me. People who make movies do not generally hang out with these types of thieves. Research into this line of work is by nature sketchy. Therefore, movie makers get their ideas on how such a feat can be brought off from the same source we do - the movies. The robbery is a botched one, but Miles gets as far as nabbing the diamond before he is caught. Just as the cops rush in, he manages to hide it in some ductwork of a high-rise under construction. After spending two years in prison, he returns to retrieve his prize. There is a small problem. The building turns out to be the new headquarters of the LAPD. It's as well guarded as Fort Knox. Undaunted, Logan tries to get in by posing as a pizza delivery guy. When this fails, he returns armed with fake IDs and paperwork. He claims to be a detective who has been reassigned to the precinct. This works too well. The police accept him as one of their own, and our criminal is suddenly a cop. Based on reading this clever plot, you might assume that this movie should be hilarious. Indeed, any of the following stars might have made it so - Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Chris Rock. While Martin Lawrence is tolerable in his sitcom Martin, he seems unable to master the longer time span that movies require. His wise cracks and bodily contortions wear off too quickly. In the scenes where he is teamed up with detective Carlson [Luke Wilson], things work.It is possible that Martin's talents work best when he has a partner to bounce off of. It is also possibile that Les Mayfield's heavy-handed direction was too much for him. Time and again, Mayfield takes scenes which could have been brilliant and makes them flat. There is also a problem with Lawrence's character. When a person incessantly makes smart remarks, it's hard to relate to them unless there is some side to them that is lovable. There is nothing to love about the totally self-centered Logan, and this makes us start to not care if he gets the diamond back or not.
