Summary: A well-balanced blend of action and drama
Review: As a dyed-in-the-wool pacifist, I don't usually choose to watch military action films. I chose this one because someone in the cast is an acquaintance. I had to see it on that basis alone, and I'm glad I did! It held my attention, and I think I would have found it worth the watch even without the added personal interest and the tantalizing glimpses of Bulgarian scenery. :)

I'm not well-equipped to review a film on Navy SEALS, but here's what I liked: watching the SEAL team of inexperienced recruits evolve and work with such precision and efficiency--I guess that's what military training is all about; the dialogues between the SEAL captain (Tyler Christopher) and "Casper" (Bentley Mitchum), the terrorist who is in competition with the SEALS to steal "Stormbringer"; the cinematography; and the pace at which the action unfolds, with enough screen time given to the one-on-one interactions between the characters to keep the story on track and allow it to become something more than a 2-hour exhibition of guns, explosions...

Not a deeply complicated story, but it touches on some timely questions of the moment--like what causes a man to choose violence, when, if ever, is revenge justified, the role the US plays on the world scene, and the human face behind some acts of terrorism and violence.

I won't get into small criticisms, as I'm sure a more knowledgeable reviewer will follow me and point out whatever logical lapses, tactical and equipment errors, etc. there may be in the story. Dramatically I thought the film held together pretty well...and most of all I enjoyed the performance of "Lt. Jacobs" (George Stanchev).

Summary: Ridiculous and goofy. If I could give it 0 stars, I would.
Review: I rented this movie recently and it is just about the worst movie I have seen in a very, very long time. Whoever wrote and directed this are obviously totally unfamiliar with the subject matter, as the SEALs in the movie had absolutely no idea what they were doing. I guess they didn't have the budget for a technical advisor, because if they did, the actors would have known how to move and act properly (absolutely no clue as to how to carry or handle their weapons), they would have been outfitted properly (closed-circuit rebreathers, not cheap [stuff] from some diving gear rental place, for example), and would have had a clue about how to fight or use a knife.

The story was equally ridiculous, and the terrorists were equally unbelievable as they had no idea what they were doing either. The acting was almost too horrible to bear.

I could do better for under $100,000 using local talent and spending a good chunk of that to hire someone like Richard Marcinko, Harry Humphries or Chris Caracci as a technical advisor or maybe to do a cameo.

If you're looking for a decent movie featuring Navy SEALs that actually act like Navy SEALs, check out Tears of the Sun which Harry Humphries was the military advisor on, or The Rock which both Harry Humphries and Richard Marcinko were advisors on.

Summary: Zero stars. I threw it away after ten painful minutes.
Review: Possibly the worst "military" movie I've seen. Well, sort of seen. It went right in the trash after ten brutal, endless, painful minutes. I bought it off a dollar rack (which speaks volumes right there) and didn't even have the heart to give it
to someone else.
This makes the old 'Navy SEALS' with Charlie Sheen look like 'Tears of the Sun'.

Summary: excellent
Review: This movie is really good. It is action packed from the beginning til the end. It is not one of those typical Commando movies where one guy takes on an army, kills them all and escapes without a scrath. This movie is very realistic with figthing scenes, where half of the Seal team are killed in combat. Once again it's an excellent flick and if you think it deserves only one star, you need to get your head examined.
