Summary: Worth 500 Stars, our generation's Blade Runner
Review: Every decade or so, a phenomenal science fiction film emerges that transcends the traditional "Oh, but it's sci-fi" barrier. In the last few years, the media, the X-files, a lying president, Television Warfare, MTV-culture, and the internet have the solopstic scenario of The Matrix possible.

Look about you, 5000 people are dead in Turkey. What does this number mean? It's baseless to us - another cipher on the evening news. The same as Vietnam's kill ratio: "What does it mean? What does it measure?" Only the absurdity of our modern time. The fact is, The Matrix is already here - and kiddies, there's no way out.

But that's reality, to the movie - Rich, dark, and complex, The Matrix weaves Biblical references, Homeric allusions (compare Odysseus and Telemakhos' shootout vs. the suiters and Neo & Trinity's finale assault), post-Structruralist ontology, and a visual poetry unlike anything seen before. It's like Beethoven's passionate symphonies, Hegel's conquering Spirit, the final scenes of Faust. It is a phoenix borne of the massive weight of it's own message. I can't express how wonderful the film is - metaphor fails.

Perhaps the best part of The Matrix is that it gives voice to the underlying tensions of this era. As we approach "The Millennium" (or to those familiar with Baudrillard [Author of Simulacra and Simulation - where Neo keeps his cash] we could say the "sign" of The Millennium), many have become aware of an edgy nexus where something about us or in us may by revealed...Ergo all this Y2K paranoia, flim-flam (note to consumers: someone's making money on your paranoia).

The Matrix gives voice to this suspicion and resonates with the braveness we must hold in stepping out into the following years.

In short, the movie is the animus for the cynicism, the doubt, the danger, the disillusionment of our time. It is not truly a film, but an embodiment of the spirit of the time (zeitgeist; or, if I may abuse Hegel's terminology: "A world-historical film").

That the movie is phenomenal and should be bought goes without saying, that it is a powerful representation of our society must be acknowledged.

Summary: Wide Screen Blues
Review: Sure makes me we wish that I had a Wide Screen TV So I could actually see the awsome VIDEO impact. I Buy a big screen TV and what does the movie industry do . They shrink the movies into a bandage strip across my screen. I'll just have to buy it on VHS I guess.

Summary: The Matrix is a masterpiece!!!!!!
Review: I'm totally in love & obsessed with this film (I'm a bit embarrassed to admit how many times I've actually seen it)! It is the best sci fi ever! It's mind-blowing. I actually still find it suspenseful when I watch it! No film has ever held me like that before...I'm usually bored out of my mind when I know what's going to happen next. Edge of your seat eye-candy! The effects are incredible and I was amazed with how they used computers in producing them. This film has definitely inspired me to be 'in the know' computer wise. It made me want to know just how they did it all! And it has actually inspired me to study film! The effects are the most incredible I've ever seen...seamless, flawless. Beautifully done!!! And the casting for the film was extraordinary. I can't wait to add this fantastic film to my collection. This film has so many layers...full of philisophical truths! I love Neo's journey to enlightenment! I love the symbolism used & connectedness throughout the film (lots of little gems to notice if you watch closely enough). They did a fabulous job...the script was alive , flawless choreography, beautifully shot, unique concept, exquisite set & wardrobe design. Pure art...a work of sheer genius!! I recently picked up the soundtrack. It's great. The best movie soundtrack I've ever heard! All others, I've always had to skip a couple of songs. But I enjoy the whole thing which is a pleasant surprise! (Another favorite film of mine is'Face/Off' which is beautifully shot. The Matrix uses a similar shooting style but takes it much farther!) The Matrix is a masterpiece!

Summary: Fantastic!!
Review: Matrix is the movie of the year, maybe even the millennium. It is a huge movie with a huge plot and a huge cast to carry it off. Keanu Reeves was "The One" he managed to go from a scared and nervous thief to a savior of the world. And I believed every minute of it. The special effects are great, but its the ones that are doing it that makes it "special" I still have the picture in my mind of Trinity walking on the wall, Keanu doing Kung Fu and ducking bullets in slo mo or jumping in the air and getting off 3 kicks before hitting the ground. Don't miss this one!

Summary: Best Special Effects of late!
Review: The Matrix is a must for any DVD owner, and to even get close to the incredible special effects seen in the theater you need to own it on DVD. The Matrix is a 5 out of 5 for action.

Summary: Very good
Review: This film is a better example of the genre than many you will see, the best for some time. The plot was not the strongest, but the acting and effects carried the film through very well. The only quibble I have, major one at least, is that the Agents were never really developed enough. At one point near the end we got some from the leading Agent that he was not in total agreement with the others and I thought that that would have been developed a bit more. It ended rather abruptly, I wasnt too sure that that was going to be the end until it was over. Also that love bit at the end with Neo coming back to life was a bit corny and spoiled the end for me. Worth going to see.

Summary: It blew my socks off!
Review: After waiting for what feels like forever for this movie to open in Swedish theatres I managed to get a ticket for the opening night. I must say that I was kinda sceptic at first since Keanu Reeves was the leading actor, and I have seen many movies that he has totaly destroyed with his acting, and it almost seemed as if he was going to destroy this one aswell. But then the twist of the movie kicks in. He is the only actor that could do the part of Neo convincing. He acts kinda stupid and slow as always, but the thing is that it works. (You have to see the film to know what I am talking about) The FX in the movie are awsome. This alone is a very good reason to go see the movie. My recomendation is to see it on a big screen first.

Summary: In the Top 3 of 1999 so far
Review: I have not seen the video version of this, since it is not out, but this is one of the best action movies I have ever seen. The plot is complex, but too hard to follow, and the special effects are wonderful, but don't take over, as in most action movies lately. The real wonder of this movie, is the fact that Keanu Reeves didn't annoy the hell out of me. There is only one other Keanu Reeves movie, where he was able to accomplish this, and that was Speed. This can be the makings of a new image for Reeves. I hope he doesn't blow it, when he makes the 2 sequels.

Summary: Must see for any science fiction fan
Review: This will likely be the first DVD I purchase (will need to get a DVD machine to play it)! I echo some others in saying that I rarely see movies that are in the theater more than once. I saw this twice and could have seen it many more times. The first time I saw it I actually knew very little about it and hadn't read any reviews. I was completely blown away, from the very beginning. For me, this ranks with science fiction movies such as Star Wars, Aliens, and Bladerunner.
