Summary: "Dead or alive, you're coming with me."
Review: **Note: This review deals with the "Criterion Collection" edition**

Still hailed as a sci-fi classic even today (and happens to be one of my personal favorites), "Robocop" is a marvelous and outstanding film. This is one of the few movies I can watch over and over again and never get sick of it. I may not be a big sci-fi buff, but that's one of the great things about this movie; you don't have to be one.

"Robocop" takes place in the future where Detroit is plagued with crime and murder. Cops are threatening to go on strike while crime lords and gangs run amuck. And when a police officer is brutally murdered by a relentless crime lord and his band of thugs, that's when corporation giant OCP resurrects him and transforms him into the ultimate crime-fighting machine. In all of it's violent and dark glory, "Robocop" is a film that proves to be both a successful action thriller and a clever satire.

I love everything about this movie. The story, the plot, the characters, everything! This is one of the few movies that when I pop it in the DVD player and hear the music for the opening titles, I get chills. It's like seeing it for the first time every time I watch it. It's very well written and directed. It also has some terrific acting. (Who would've thought that the father from "That 70's Show" could prove to be a very effective villain?) And for an older movie, it has some incredible special effects.

Be warned, this is not a movie for people who do not like excessively violent movies. This one's as violent as they come. Gun shot wounds, arms and heads getting blown off, people getting shot multiple times... you get the idea. After all, this is Paul Verhoeven we're talking about (the very man behind "Total Recall," and "Starship Troopers"). So be warned.

The version I have is the "Criterion Collection" edition. It's a shame that this one is so hard to find, because I do think this is the best version out there. Not only is it loaded with some very cool features, it's also the unrated director's cut that offers a few extra seconds of extra gore in two specific scenes. (I think it's only two.) Now, that's not a very big deal and doesn't really add much to the movie, but it is something at least. And the picture and sound is great. I am aware that the newer version is supposed to look a lot better than this one, but that DVD doesn't appear to have ANY special features on it. So I will stick with this one until a better one comes out. (I have a feeling that a better one will come out in the future.)

Some special features included on the Criterion version are storyboards, theatrical and teaser trailers, commentary, film-to-storyboard comparison, and more. It would've been nice to have a few more extras, but it's not a bad package if you ask me.

"Robocop" will forever remain a classic in my eyes. It's one of the few sci-fi flicks I can watch over and over again. THIS is the one to see (while #2 wasn't too bad of a movie, the third one is a complete embarrassment). If you want to see a great sci-fi movie with brains and action, this is the one to experience.

In the very wise words of Robocop himself, "Stay out of trouble."

Summary: DECENT MOVIE FOR ITS TIME=3.5/5
Review: I remember hearing about this when I was younger. A movie called Robocop was released in 1987 in theaters when I was only 7 at the time so I didn't see it till I was 10 when it was on video. This movie does have a unique and original concept about a police offer being murdered and then coming back in machine form, which seperates the movie from a lot of sci-fi/action flicks at the time. Peter Weller does a good job as Murphy and as Robocop and Clarence's character played by the father from that 70's show(i don't know the actors name)does a good job convincing the audience he is a real evil guy. The movie however does have several annoying things apparent. One the corny effects done for ED 209 were even terrible in the 1987 era and the fight sequence between Robocop and ED 209 looks horrid(major claymation element to it)and secondly the guy who plays Dick Jones is really annoying and not that great in the movie. Lastly the most annoying and lame character that I was actually rooting for to get killed is the nerdy coke sniffing new OCP vice president who really was pathetic in the film. Also if you think you are getting a lot by buying this CRITERION your wrong, like other reviewers said you basically just get a few seconds more of Murphy's death scene and the scene where ED 209 flips out in the office(which is a lame scene anyways) and your better buying the regular version for 12.99 in the bargain bin at your local Target or Best Buy. BOTTOM LINE DECENT MOVIE,WORTH A RENTAL AT LEAST BUT IF YOU'VE SEEN ONCE ITS NOT A MOVIE I EVER WANT TO SEE AGAIN

Summary: Exciting Movie!
Review: This movie turned out to be a very good movie. In this movie a
policeman is killed. Due to the efforts of a private company he
is brought back as a crime fighting cyborg.Peter Weller who plays
the role of Robocop becomes the criminal world's worse nightmare.
He begins a mopup on the forces of evil. The special effects that
are used in this movie are outstanding as well making Robocop that mucher more menacing to the forces of evil. You also have some excellent supporting cast member who make this a good movie.
All in all a very good movie.Buy this film and watch it. You will
not be dissapointed.

Summary: the 80's, oh how wanton you were!
Review: Commentary on Reaganite plutocracy, double standards and internal and international political deviance boiling in about a cubic ton of corn syprup. A classic and then some. Wonder if a thinly veiled attack on the George Dubya 'regime'will ever come about.

Summary: A contemporary classic!!!!
Review: The year was 1987. By the end of the decade, many film producers and directors had established themselves among hollywood's finest and the getting was better than ever when it came to screenplays and visual effects. In addition, it was also a time for newcomers, such as dutch director Paul Verhoeven. Having been lured to the U.S. by this film project, which his wife, of all people, finally convinced him to take up, it seemed worth the time and effort for all who were involved. The result, in my opinion, was a "contemporary classic". Not only does the film tell an unforgettable story of vengence, laced with several scenes of extremely graphic violence, but it also has so many social, not to mention political, themes embedded within, it's not funny. Bottom line, if you base your opinion of this film solely on its gruesome content, to say the least, then you should watch it again. Because you would have missed the other half of the movie the first time around!

Summary: DICK YOUR FIRED!!!
Review: Still to this day this movie remains as an all-time favorite of mine. This movie has it all. Guns, explosions, mass shootings , foul language, and of course shotgun dismemberment. This is an all-time 80s classic action movie with the right amount of special effects with a great futuristic plot. Peter Weller plays the role of Robocop perfectly. I highly recommend this movie to all those who live for action and horror movies.

Summary: Clarence Boddicker, Old Man, and OCP. What more can you get?
Review: No more!!! RoboCop is perhaps the most violent movie I have ever seen yet not half as bad as most violence. If you have seen my past reviews, I am highly fond of RoboCop 3 yet if had to, RoboCop is the best way to go.It is dramatic and action-packed and unlike James Bond, this guy can do the stunts that Bond does and it does not make a farfetched film.In it, Alex J. Murphy is murdered in a steel mill in front of the eyes of his partner, Ann Louis.IT IS A BLOODY SCENE!He is immediately dragged to a lab where he is half dead and is brought back to life as a crime- smashing cyborg. He sets out to help the innocent and has flashbacks of his family yet is suppost to be memory wiped and at the same time, Murphy goes after his killer and evil gang, Clarence Boddicker, but find it may not be the easiest thing, even with in-destructable medal!!!
The action is heart-stopping yet almost soothing and addicting! And remeber kids, "STAY OUT OF TROUBLE!"

Summary: WARNING: THIS IS AN EXTREMELY VIOLENT MOVIE!!!!!
Review: If you're looking for a good supercop science-fiction movie mixed with tons of strong violence and blood & guts, then this is the movie for you. Robocop is the ultimate supercop movie that takes you on an incredible thrill ride like no other film has ever done before. Peter Weller does a splendid job as a police officer who is gunned down by baddies and brought back to life as a supercop robot known as Robocop. There's plenty of bloody carnage and for gorehounds. The action scenes and climax are very very intense! If you loved Terminator 2: Judgment Day then you'll friggin' love this, man. I guarantee it!!!!

Summary: Classic '80's sci-fi
Review: Before Paul Verhoeven directed the lambasted Showgirls and the dreadful Hollow Man, he helmed this sci-fi masterpiece that would become a box office hit and inspire inferior sequels, a dreadful TV show, two cartoons, video games, and a horde of comics. Peter Weller plays Detroit cop Alex Murphy who is brutally (and graphically) gunned down in the line of duty. Through technological enhancements, his brain is resurrected (with snippits of memories) in the form of a cyborg built by corporate company OCP (which owns the police force) to be "the future of law enforcemnt". While RoboCop is an action sci-fi blast from beginning to end, but what lies beneath that is a satire of the news media and it's influence on the public in a city raging out of control (Verhoeven would later use a similar type of satirical style with 1997's Starship Troopers). The casting is superb: Nancy Allen is perfect as Murphy's sympathetic partner, Ronny Cox is his usual slimy self as crooked OCP vice president Dick Jones, and Kurtwood Smith (Red on That '70's Show) is utterly fantastic as Clarence Boddicker, the S.O.B. you'll love to hate. All in all, this is one of Verhoeven's finest directorial efforts, and is essential to any lover of action or sci-fi. Get the Criterion Collection edition if you can, it's worth every penny.
