Summary: Aw come on!
Review: I got a DVD player last week and Joshua Tree was one my top ten movies to get. Then I discover that Artisan have released it in fullscreen and not even in the proper title. Jeez, was I upset and deeply crestfallen.

This is an outrageous action movie that very deserved a better release than it got. The Dolby 2.0 soundtrack may be better than the VHS but the musical score (awesome) sounds terrible and even "chewed up" in places. The fullscreen picture is even grainy and has too much color shimmer.

All us fans can do is hope that the ever falling retail price of this DVD means is that Artisan is planning to do a proper widescreen release sometime in the future.

Summary: Dolph Lundgren's best movie !!!
Review: I have watch this film in French Language and it's a very good video. Dolph Lundgren is very persuasive and his scuptural body is perfect. It's a rare movie into he plays the play of a bad boy.
Special effects are wonderful.
It's a great film!

Summary: BOTTOM OF THE BARREL TREATMENT FOR TOP DRAWER MOVIE
Review: I honestly don't know what Artisan were thinking by releasing this in pan and scan with terrible Dolby 2.0 sound that desperately needs remastering. The cropped 1.33:1 picture is grainy and has quite a lot of speckles and dirt thru-out. This really is Dolph's best movie and Segal makes for a seriously cool villain but with this pathetic treatment by Artisan all the cool gun battles and car chases and explosions are just as rubbish as they were on VHS. Pick it up if the price temps but don't expect much.

Summary: A Fantastic high-velocity action thriller movie!
Review: I like Army of One the best out of all of Dolph Lundgren's films, it's one of the best action thriller movies I've seen and it's all high caliber action right from the start to finish.
Wellman Santee's (Dolph Lundgren)partner is killed during a botched heist and Santee is convicted of a crime he didn't commit. He escapes from prison and takes a woman (Kristian Alfonso)hostage not knowing she is a police officer and takes off across the desert in a high-speed race for his life while trying to set a trap to get revenge against the corrupt detective who sent him to jail. I like the car chases even better than in Gone in 60 Seconds. Also starring in this movie is Ken Foree of the original Dawn of the Dead, I just knew this movie was going to be good when I found out that he was in it and if you like these action type of movies then I also highly recommend Hangfire, Terror Squad and True Blood all of which also star Ken Foree in them and all of them are absolutely brilliant some of the best movies I have ever seen!
I prefer the DVD format which has special features but unfortunately this particular version is not so good so I ordered the other DVD version as well!

Summary: Used to be a good film.
Review: I saw this as Joshua Tree. It had a different (and better) ending than the DVD. The action is seriously cool and proffesionally handled by BAFTA award-winning stunt co-ordinator Vic Armstrong. Joel Goldsmiths musical score will put you right into the emotion of the story and Dolph is remarkably stoic as Wellman Anthony Santee-the hero. George Segal turns in a good performance and Kristen Alfonso is a babe.

But Artisans DVD is terrible. No widescreen (the AR of Joshua Tree is 2.35:1) and very bad Dolby 2.0 sound. The DVD is not even digital. Instead it is directly mastered from the VHS tape and is of the same quality. A single trailer is the only extra and it even advertises the film by its actual title. Not this Army of One nonsense.

Anyways, this is a cool movie and I suggest you check it out sometime.

Summary: One of Lundgren's better movies
Review: I thought this was a good entertaining movie. I wish there was more hand to hand combat, since Lundgren is specialized, but overall it was good. I got double my money's worth. Non stop action. George Segal was excellent as well as a corrupt cop.

Summary: Pathetic Pan and Scan version of ace movie.
Review: I'll make it quick seeing as how what I have to say is already echoed in many other reviews for this DVD. Joshua Tree is one of the best action movies ever. And this DVD is NOT the way to watch it for several reasons.

Title-Army of one, which is not the title of this movie at all. Joshua Tree makes more sense and is not as crass as 'Army of One'.

Picture-The movie was filmed in Clairmont-Scope with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1. This DVD presents the movie in pan and scan format. Not 'fullscreen', which implies the movie was shot the way it is presented here. It wasn't.

Sound-Absolutely terrible. Muffled, almost totally mono in nature and does Joel Goldsmith's awesome score no justice. The sound design of this film had the potential to be marvellous. But this DVD sounds like a temporary/work in progress, rough mix.

Extras-Only a trailer (which calls the movie by it's REAL name). I remember seeing a documentary on Sky Movies about the making of this film. There were extensive behind the scenes footage and interviews with Vic Armstong (Die Another Day, Gangs of New York). Artisan could have dug this up and along with OAR, a 5.1 soundtrack, some motion menus and possibly a commentary it would have made a very respectable release which I'm sure would have sold well.

Though I doubt this will ever happen. But I would not suggest buying this DVD. That would only prove to Artisan that pan and scan sells.

Summary: Want To Know How To Ruin a Great Film? See This DVD!
Review: Joshua Tree is a very good and well-made action film that'll no doubt appeal to moviegoers and action fans of all kinds. While the plot isn't exactly original, the movie itself is really quite spectacular. The performances are excellent (especially Dolph Lundgren & George Segal) and the action scenes are priceless (the Warehouse Shoot-Out is simply one of the best action scenes ever filmed, period). Plus, the musical score is terrific and the movie looks very nice. This is one of Dolph's best movies, if not his best. However, it's a shame I can't the same for the DVD.

First, why is it in dreadful fullscreen format and in an incorrect 1.33:1 aspect ratio when it should be in it's original 2.35:1 aspect ratio and with widescreen presentation (and 16x9 exhancement)? The picture itself looks horrible. It's quite grainy and there are numerous specs throughout. Plus the movie looks very dirty and looks like it was shot on a film stock that had been collecting dust and wasn't cleaned.

Second, the sound. Just as horrible as the picture. It's very poorly presented in Dolby 2.0 and it really hurts the film. The music, sound effects and dialogue don't sound right at all. It should've been in Dolby 5.1, which would've been a superb sound transfer, but the (...) who produced this DVD instead gave it a dreadful Dolby 2.0 mix.

Third, the extras. All it has are the trailer and scene access. That's it. The trailer (like the movie) is in fullscreen and Dolby 2.0 as well. I was hoping to see a making-of featurette, and being able to listen to an audio commentary by the production team. Plus an isolated musical score would've been a superb extra.

And fourth, the movie's title has been changed to Army Of One, which is a (...) title.

Overall, a very disappointing DVD with an awful picture and sound and lackluster extras (and a different title, too!). The transfer really ruined my enjoyment of this movie which I normally enjoy very much. Please wait for a new DVD with a widescreen 2.35:1 transfer with 16x9 enhancement and a Dolby 5.1 sound mix, as well as a bunch of nice extras (like making-of featurettes, commentaries, isolated musical tracks, etc.) and it's original and correct title of Joshua Tree. Everyone who produced this DVD should be ashamed and be kicked out of the movie industry (and DVD industry, too!).

Summary: TERRIBLE DVD OF A GREAT FILM
Review: Joshua Tree was one of the best action movies of the '90s and Artisan (who can usually be relied upon to make awesome DVDS) have given it a terrible transfer.

All we get on this very poor and lazy release is a flat and static main menu, Dolby-Surround, a fullscreen trailer and THE ENTIRE MOVIE IN FULLSCREEN. UGH!

This film is supposed to be in 2.35:1 but instead Artisan, for some reason, released it in a mutilated 1.33:1. This is not right. The directors vision of the film is the one that should be respected and seen by everyone. I advise you to wait for a more definative release of Joshua Tree (not Army of One). Joshua Tree is the REAL title.

I really do hope that Artisan change their minds about this DVD and release a better version soon. Widescreen is the most important feature of ANY DVD released. But it is not present here so save your cash for a future release.

Summary: FULLSCREEN SHOULD BE ILLEGAL ON DVD
Review: Normally I would reccomend this DVD to you. But only in widescreen. Artisan have butchered an excellent action film. Leave this edition be.
