Summary: Style and substance
Review: One of the best works of director Soderbergh, Out of Sight is based on the Elmore Leonard novel of the same name and, to the credit of all involved, came closer to capturing the spirit of the book than any previous Leonard-based movies, including Get Shorty. I was pleasantly surprised by George Clooney, whose performance struck the right note - the combination of hardness borne of a life in crime and the very human yearning for love and companionship we all can relate - apropos of a character from Leonard novel; Jennifer Lopez is adequate as the US marshal, terrific as eye candy; great supporting roles turned in by Don Cheadle, Dennis Farina and Michael Keaton, all held together by Soderbergh, with masterful use of cameraworks and flashbacks. If you like Elmore Leonard and enjoy crime stories in general, grab this one.

Summary: Boring and shallow...
Review: I don't how this movie got **** so far. It's so boring, full of endless and meaningless talk (meant to be cool? come on!)

How is George's performance? No comment. But he sure chose a wrong role.

Summary: J Lo's Last good Performance
Review: I won't review the movie too much since there are so many telling how excellent this movie is. This movie shows that Jennifer Lopez is in fact, a good actress. She was wonderful in this movie and hasn't been this great since(not The Wedding Planner, The Cell or Angel Eyes) How ironic this was the last movie to come out before she started singing. Please Jennifer, give up the music, your voice isn't that great, and stick with acting! She should have her talents shine more often like in this film

Summary: what an absolute gem of a movie!!
Review: this was a fantastic moive. now it may be a guy thing, though. i'm not sure.

i loved the dialogue and the chemistry between Clooney and JLo. and the acting was superb all the way round. the use of time in this film was *very* effective in my opinion. the music was great. even the ending is very good - suggestive, but understated. the directing and use of filters and different lenses was very good (it was annoying as all get out in *traffic* however :(

the only flaw is that there won't be a sequel (as far as i know).

so watch *out of sight* and enjoy! :)

Summary: Possibly a perfect movie...
Review: Don't let the faces of J. Lo and George turn you away. This movie has incredible pacing, cinematography and feeling. You identify with all the characters and even like the "bad guys".

Summary: One of Soderbergh's Best!
Review: This movie is the first sign of great things to come from Steven Soderbergh! I really enjoyed watching this film. It was intelligent, interesting, and downright fun! Jennifer Lopez did an excellent job in this film further solidifing her credits as a most note-worthy actress. While George Clooney, continues to sizzle on the screen. Overall, this movie has it all: action, comedy, and romance! Definitely, an underated movie back in '98 that needs to get its props!

Summary: Outta Sight!
Review: I love this movie. One of the few films of a Elmore Leonard novel that captures his off-center, ironic, quirky humor and style. A typical genre-buster, it is a prison/caper/crime movie that is really a love story that is more of a comedy that is really a character study.

Steven Soderbergh brings intelligence and just the right understanding of the material to bring off this oddball romance. And, he is helped enormously by a perfectly cast ensemble of players who make it all work nicely. Up front is George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez who generate some real on screen chemistry and heat and are a wonderful match. There isn't a missed note in the supporting cast of Don Cheadle, Ving Rhames, Steve Zahn, Dennis Farina, Albert Brooks and (unbilled) a nice cameo by Michael Keaton and also Samuel L. Jackson.

A bank robber escaping prison (Clooney) briefly captures a Federal Marshal (Lopez) who accidently interrupts the escape, and while riding in the trunk of the escape car with her, their respective masks drop briefly and they make a human connection. Neither can get the other out of his/her mind and their lives are destined to become intertwined.

That this simple premise of the accidents of fate and the fateful attraction of opposites works so well is a combination of great material to begin with (thanks Elmore Leonard), perfectly realized in all the details (thanks Steven Soderbergh and Frank Scott). His color schemes in the film show that Traffic was no accident. Nice touches with the music too!

George Clooney really stepped into Leading Man shoes with this one, and Jennifer Lopez (pre JayLo) is fine, and I do mean fine!

There is some nice extras and the Making Of documentary has Soderbergh actually telling us something about how he visualized and shot the movie, as well as the added treat of observations by Elmore Leonard and humorous comments from the cast.

A sexy romance with some graphic violence and loads of humor this is a unique and original piece of work. So glad that Frank Scott added the tag of hope on the end. Didn't detract from Elmore Leonard but made it all click!

Summary: Good, but not as Great As Some People Said
Review: Out of Sight is a crime story with some style to it, and it focuses less on the crimes and more on the humor, it never takes itself too seriously.

I found myself picking up a copy after reading so many great reviews for it. The movie though, is just good, it's not as good as it's said here. The plot is of George Clooney a bank robber (who robs banks with such ease, that was a fun part, watching the beginning of this movie, the very beginning when he robs the bank), but he gets busted and sent to jail. He eventually gets out (in a pretty humerous way), and there his romance with the federal marshall, Jennifer Lopez starts.

My expectations were real high for this one, but it just wasn't that good! Soderbergh has some real nice shots, which reminded me of "Pulp Fiction," and even the time line is of "Pulp Fiction" style, but only this one is confusing in that you really have to be paying attention to understand how the timeline goes.

Eventually, I just got kind of bored with the sub-plots (the cliche one last score), and the annoying guy with the sun glasses.

About Lopez' romance with Clooney. I found it true to itself, and at the end when she must choose between love and her job, I was a little dissapointed at her decision.

Overall, it's worth a watch or two, the DVD is okay, but I hated the menu's. Clooney always plays the cool guy, even in this one, but the movie just wasn't too upbeat and exciting

Summary: An interesting tale, marred by excessive profanity.
Review: A good plot (with likable characters) and superior acting make this a film worth seeing (not just because Elmore Leonard and Scott Frank supply the two literary bases). But why did Soderberg choose to make it foul-mouthed (?), because if it weren't it would simply carry its R rating for violence. The story is the cliche of a thief falling in love with a federal marshall, but it is inventive and funny.
