Summary: A wonderful collection
Review: This includes ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. I happened to think this was one of the best bond films ever made. Moonraker is in here where Jaws is reunited with bond. it is a classic collection:Dr.No included.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: MAN IN THE GOLDEN GUN AMD MOONRAKER BURDEN THIS COLLECTION
Review: I love DR. NO and SPY WHO LOVED ME. BUT THE OTHER THREE BOND MOVIES IN THIS COLLECTION ARE JUST NOT VEY GOOD. MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN IS SIMPLY UNWATCHABLE ALONG WITH MOONRAKER. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE ISN'T THAT BAD BUT ITS NOT GOOD! MY ADVICE IS STICK WITH VOLUME 1 AND 3 OF THE BOND SETS. BUY DR.NO AND SPY WHO LOVED ME SEPERATE TO AVOID TWO MAYBE THREE OF THE WORST BOND MOVIES EVER.

Summary: A DVD set review
Review: This set of DVDs is the best collection I have in my library. Altogether they beat any other set. Each DVD is a special edition DVD, not just a normal set. Each one has it's own documentary produced in 1999 which runs from 30 to 45 minutes. You hear very interesting interviews with cast and crew that are narrated mostly by Patrick MacNee of 'Avenger' fame. Each one also has a special mini-documentary about some aspect of James Bond such as a biography of the first James Bond director, a feature on stunts of James Bond films, a section on Q branch, a section on the art/set director of a lot of the films and a section on the special effects. These run about 25 to 30 minutes. Each DVD comes with trailers, TV spots and even radio spots; not that interesting. The older films also contain some original featurettes. The DVDs' also come with picture galleries that contain some short but interesting production notes. Usually I find galleries boring, but these pictures are all very interesting because they aren't just traditional publicity photos, but behind-the-scenes shots. Alas, the one item missing here is deleted scenes. Some of the trailers and photo galleries hint at deleted scenes but none of the DVDs' have them. The only other item I didn't care for were the documentaries that were edited together and are moderated by some fellow from the Ian Fleming Foundation. First of all they have too many people on the documentary. They have comments from over a dozen cast and crew from each film. They often don't talk about the film you're watching but some aspect of Bond films or the movie industry in general. Although sometimes interesting, mostly verbose, the commentary is easier to listen to without a picture. I'd prefer comments that are directly related to the film you are watching. A lot of the comments are lifted from the documentaries, so this will be the second time you hear them. The commentary is a feature that I'll only listen to once. Overall this set is hands down the best of any collection I have. Each DVD by itself is good to average, but taken together this set is a must have in anyone's collection whether your like James Bond or not.

Summary: A step down from Vol. #1
Review: I got this a while ago, but for some reason, never wrote a review on it until the third and final set came out.

For me, this is not as good as the first collection. First of all you have the films.

Obviously, you cannot beat the original, DR. NO. Apart from being the first Bond film, this is also the only Sean Connery film in this set. I feel that there is too much Moore and that it would have been better if they would have swapped a Moore film from Set #2 with a Connery film from set #3. That way, things would have been more evened out.

Then there is ON HERE MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE- This is one of the most underrated Bond films in my opinion. Superb locations, a brilliant performance by Diana Rigg, a good job By George Lazenby(I wish that he got to do more than one Bond film...He had the potential), a pre-Kojak Telly Savalas as Blofeld, and one of the best stories written. Plus there's my favorite Bond song of all, -by John Barry(naturally), put to also the best Bond title sequence- obviously by Maurice Binder

THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN is the campy Bond film, in my opinion. The only thing that really sparks it up for me, is Christopher Lee. I have long been a fan of the Hammer Horror films, and he plays a brilliant Scaramanga. The film is lightened(maybe too much?)by Herve Villechaize as Nick Nack.

THE SPY WHO LOVED ME has to be Roger Moore's best outing as 007. It definitely is a great film- from start to finish. It has one of the best Bond songs- Carly Simon's "Nobody Does it Better", Barbara Bach puts in a good performance as his lover/opposition, great gadgets- the Lotus submarine, and of course, terrific adversaries- in this case, Jaws.

Finally, there is what must be the "black sheep" of the Bond films: MOONRAKER. Trying to capitalize on the Star Wars momentum, they tried to make a space-orientated film. The gamble failed(if you ask the majority of people)

As for the regular DVD features on all the films: Three out the five films are mono, while MOONRAKER and THE SPY WHO LOVED ME are Dolby Digital 5.1, which is a bit of disappointment- as is only two of the films having English subtitles(yet again, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, and DR. NO), compared to the first set where all the films had English subtitles. I find these a necessity because I'm a fan of the commentaries, and while the people are talking, it is good to know what the actors are saying. But unlike the first set, all the films only have one commentary, whereas six out of seven had two commentaries in each DVD.

You also get the regular stuff: A documentary on the film on each DVD about the film telling how the film was made, then there are special documentaries on each film specializing on a specific topic:

Terence Young

Q's gadgets/A tribute to Desmond Llewelyn

Stuntmen

Designing Bond

Special Effects

Plus there are also the movie trailers, TV and radio spots, photo galleries, and mini booklets that come with each DVD. So you are definitely going to be watching for a long time. And as usual, all have great menus with tremendous graphics and interesting one-liners.

All that being said, I would say that if you were NOT to get one of the Bond sets, it would be this one. Three of the five films are good- the other two.... But one thing I did appreciate about this set, was the extra space for THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH. Thanks!

Summary: Magnificent and magnificently Bad.
Review: These Bond bundles were apparently designed to package one or two essential movies in each set together with several bad movies. Vol. 1 was a reasonably good collection with not too many weaknesses, Vol. 3 a travesty with the incomprable From Russia With Love lumped in with the bottom of the Bond barrel. This set falls somewhere in between. Dr. No, the first movie in the series, is also one of the best. Man With the Golden Gun is one of Moore's least annoying, I actually found it pretty enjoyable. The Spy Who Loved Me is not horrible but pretty forgettable. Moonraker is a joke, with the worst climax ever. Hardest to review is On Her Majesty's Secret Service. George Lazenby plays Bond for the first (and mercifully the last) time. The tragedy here is that they waste one of the best Bond scripts and the best heroine on the worst Bond. Diana Rigg is magnificent, virtually the only Bond girl with an actual character to play. If Bond was ever going to truly fall in love, it would have to be with her.

Summary: Some things you need to know
Review: I just received this yesterday and haven't had time to watch all of them. I did see the most of Moonraker last night, and I feel the need to warn you Home Theatre freaks out there about some stuff. The movie is in widescreen format ONLY. MGM (or whomever remastered the soundtrack) seems to have concentrated on restoring the picture, music and sound effects, but not the dialogue; The dialogue is weak and sounds like it has just been recorded directly from the original reel without any attempt at enhancement. The music/FX are waaayyy louder than dialog, so your thumb will be sore from operating the volume control unless you have auto volume on your TV. The picture quality is wonderful though, and this is still a great addition to anyones collection. I still recommend it despite the techno-freak nitpicking noted above!

Summary: The Best Bond Films All In One Set!
Review: this is probably the best collection of bond films avilable out there! it features:dr. no(the first and one of the best all time bonds),on her majeties secret service (probably one of the best only if sean conery was in it!), the man with the golden gun(a bit goofy but still good), the spy who loved me(definetly one of roger moore's best), and moonraker,(this would have been my favorite bond film except for the bad ending that spoils it all!) of all the other sets, this has my personal favorites. in my opinion there should have had a conery set, a moore set and the dalton/brosnan set but thats not what happened so i'd go with this one! the dvd has all the tailers and other good extras. if you'r gonna bye one of the bond sets, get this one!

Summary: Oh James . . .
Review: Well, perversely I got this second volume first, and I'm absolutely blown away. For a start these DVDs are without question the best presented I've seen, from the interesting booklets to the sumptious graphics designed for the menu structure of each film. Additionally MGM have obviously spent some well deserved time and effort (and money!) producing a range of features that definately deserve the adjective 'special'. Finally I've got these classic films in much needed widescreen with superb quality prints. Just waiting impatiently for volume three now - any Bond fans out there would be fools to hesitate with these sets!

Summary: Excellent Gift Set for JB Fans
Review: Like the first James Bond gift set, I enjoyed the features of the DVD's in this, the second gift set. However, there was one problem I ran into that turned out to be more of a headache than it should have been. In the DVD "The Man With The Golden Gun", it seems that tracks 21 and 22 will not play on certain DVD players (of which mine is one of them). I didn't find this out until I had tried three different sets. Kudos go to Amazon's customer service department for supplying me with multiple sets to try and fix the problem. Unfortunately, they weren't able to, but it seems that MGM has come up with a solution. If you have a problem viewing "The Man with the Golden Gun", you should contact MGM Customer Service at 1-877-MGM-4YOU for assistance. Other than that, the set is great!

Summary: #2 is great, but needs more Connery!
Review: This gift set is rather strangely put together, much like the 1st one. Dr. No and The Spy Who Loved Me are Excellent (The only problem with The Spy Who Loved Me is that i can't listen to "Nobody Does it Better" it makes me cry). The Man with the Golden Gun is alright, but I'veonly seen On Her Majesty's Secret Sevice a few times, it's too sad for me, but still a great story. Unfortunately, Moonraker was the fisrt bond movie I saw (Oh Horrors!) so I kind of have a mental attachment to it. I would have preffered puting these sets into better oder, mabye all the Connery's is #1, the Moore's in #2, and the rest in #3. Oh well. Buy this set, even if you don't watch Moonraker at all.
