Summary: Much better than the crowd estimates
Review: Mystifies me why the intense, lovely gothic edge of this little film escaped most reviewers. Who needed more of the repetitive themes of the first two movies? This is literate, claustrophobic, creative--I mean it took guts and imagination to strand these characters without weapons against our familiar predator. My only complaint is that Charles Dance buys the farm way too soon. By contrast, Alien Resurrection is a complete piece of trash. Series should have signed off for good after this one

Summary: What Happened?
Review: The other 3 were great. This movie was terrible, why spend Aliens trying to save Newt then have an uneventfull death at the beginning of 3. Clearly, the worst of the series.

Summary: If only it had been more of the same...
Review: The first two entries in the Alien world were beautifully crafted, cohesive, actually believable stories, and I have only good things to say about them. Three was an awful disappointment, but based on the absurd premises, uncommitted direction and writing, and general ham-handling of it, the result was perhaps the best we could hope for. It's a lot of gray, yellow and black motion brought to you by a director who should have known better than to tell a two-hour story with Nike-ad blur-and-flash action shots.

Review: Although this movie is well directed, has good special effects and is very exciting to watch. At moments it is slightly boring and confusing. with the quick camera changes it is hard to understand what is going on at times

Summary: Chills, Spills, Guts and Gore, the alltime best Horror!
Review: When you think of an Alien, you think of a little green man with a cute little face and and good will to humanity. Well, these Aliens aren't green, their not little, and sure enough, you can throw the good will to humanity out the airlock, cause they have one thing in mind, your utter annihalation! If you want a gut wrenching, clausterphobic, edge of your seat, acion/horror, get the Alien Triology. Or you can always wait for the little green cute guy.....

Summary: All I have to say about this movie is... IT'S EXCELLENT!
Review: The first Alien I think is an excellent movie, but I don't like the scene where Sigorney Weaver appears to be exploited (the scene where she gets undressed and she is wearing those unusual underpants).The second Alien movie,Aliens, I don't think has anything wrong with it. I'd say it's one of my favorite movies. I thought this one was just perfect.I thought this one was a little better than the first Alien movie.The third one is not that bad, but I happened to like it least. I do like that surprise ending though, where Ripley (Sigourney Weaver)sacrafices herself to save her crew.

Summary: Largely Underappreciated
Review: Though it's not really fitting for a movie in the Alien series, Alien3 is an interestingly done if monochrome-looking exercise in religious allegory. Weaver handles the constantly changing role of Ripley well, combining both the independence shown in Alien with the maternal aspects of Aliens. This, combined with the rest of the cast and some effective camerawork, makes for what is at least an interesting film. It must be seen letterboxed for it to make any sense, however. The end of the movie (and what should have been the end of the series) is amazing, of course, and worth waiting for even if you find the preceding two hours unbearably dull. Give the film a second look (or a first!), but again, in its original Panavision format if possible; otherwise it becomes very visually garbled. END

Summary: Greatly underrated, but a few problems.
Review: Alien 3 is the darkest and most emotionally driven of the series. Yes, I loved Aliens (which is my favorite) and the relationships between Ripley and Newt & Ripley and Hicks(see the director's cut), but I feel very strongly for some of the characters as the movie progresses. Ripley feeling satisfied that the Aliens were destroyed only to find out that they are back and still controlling her life. Finding an adopted daughter and possibly romance from Hicks only to wake up with them dead.

The performances are great, Weaver's, Dutton's and especially Dance's. Visually, this one is the most striking and contains the most beautiful ending in this series. Still there are some problems. Everybody's favorite complaint is how the egg ended up close to the cryo tubes. All they needed was a shot during the opening credits of two eggs behind the dropship's landing struts. The CGI effects were usually unconvincing, but I can understand why they were need for the Alien to run across the ceiling. The film also suffers from the gross overuse of the f-word in the second half. Many people complain and wish to know why the Alien looks and moves differently. Simply put, it was born out of a dog. The writers were trying to establish that Aliens born from organisms other than humans will be different. When you think about it, the only Aliens we ever saw were born from humans. We never saw the Alien that was born from the "space jockey" in the first movie. I also wish that the movie would have gone into more depth with the prisoners' adoption of religion. Yes I am a knitpicker, but I think this is a great film and logical ending to the series. What am I hearing about a director's cut to this one. I know about the Special Edition of Aliens, but could someone say how I could get the director's cut of Alien 3?

Summary: Only Alien Film With Staying Power
Review: "Alien 3" is an exciting, scary, sci-fi film with fantastic, gothic art direction and, dare-I-say, beautiful photography. As such, it's a great film in its own right, on par with its visionary predecessors, "Alien" and "Aliens."

Oddly, "Alien 3" only suffers criticism due to its relationship to those earlier films. Here's how: In "Alien 3," director David Fincher tries to unencumber the saga from the baggage of the first two films, where the story arcs of favorite characters Ripley, Hicks, Bishop, and Newt had already come to complete resolution, with each character saved. By dismissing (read that: killing off) all but Ripley so as to get on with a new story, Fincher, to fans, had negated the victory that was "Aliens." Most of the criticism of "Alien 3" stems from this.

Taken on its own, however, "Alien 3" is an entertaining film with impeccable production value, a tight storyline, great performances, plenty of scares, and more replay value that any other film in the franchise.
