Summary: Horrible.
Review: Horrible is the word I would use to summarize this film in one word. This is one of the worst movies that I have ever seen. The only reason anyone would see this movie is to keep up with the series. However, you are not missing anything by not watching it. The film is way too dark and, not to mention, it is not entertaining at all. Director David Fincher's style does not fit the Alien series at all.

Summary: Alien 3 gets 3 stars
Review: Uneven episode in the ALIEN saga and perhaps the worst. However the accting is okay and the film is alright, but it seems far too dull and will prove dissapointing and boring for some.

Summary: Actually, this isn't as bad as it's been made out to be.
Review: In a way, it's an improvement. We kill off the pointless people from the second film, and we have several really talented actors. Unfortunately, we can't tell them apart. I've never managed to identify Paul McGann. The cinematography is downright bad. This picture is less fun than the others, but it's trying for something better, and once it gets rolling, it kicks. It just takes a damn long time to get there. I love the way the FOX theme slides into dissonance...

Summary: Possibly three and a half
Review: The Alien series is probably my favorite series of all-time, and Aliens is one of my favorite movies. While Alien 3 does have a lot of good points, it has flaws too. It's a strange movie in that respect.

Best things first: ATMOSPHERE. The brilliant David Fincher (see Seven and Fight Club, two of my other favorites) creates a very chilling atmosphere. At times the sets and atmosphere are the best of the entire series with this movie. It is high-tech yet primitive in some respects, and things always seem to be wet. Also, Sigourney Weaver is good as Ripley. There are a lot of very suspenseful moments as well.

On to the flaws: first and foremost, the alien itself. The nightmarish creature has been totally desecrated in this movie, it looks terrible. I'm not sure how much faith I have in computer-generated xenomorphs, although Alien Resurrection's aliens are infinitely better. On the flip side of the coin, we don't actually see it that much. And the scenes where it runs across the ceiling and we see what it's seeing? Excellent. Also I was kind of sad at how abruptly Newt, Hicks, and Bishop are chopped out of the story. I understand why it was done, but it seemed unresolved, even after the parts involving Newt and Bishop.

Another thing: the finale is superb. I won't say what happens as not to spoil it, but it is very good and quite chilling. To close, Alien 3 is a pretty good movie and it really is worthy of the series. It's just not as good as the others.

Summary: Flawed in spots - but it rouds-out the Trilogy
Review: This film could have stopped David Fincher's young career right in its tracks. It took over a year to shoot, it went well over-budget, and it was only a hit in Belgium, France, and Japan (in other words, cultures in which existentialism is popular). But it was incredibly photographed by Alex Thompson (Excalibur, The Krays), well acted by quite an impressive cast (including Charles Dutton, Charles Dance, Pete Postlethwaite, and Paul McGann, just to name a few), and featured outstanding editing, costume design, and set design.

And the film even spawned discussion about a possible AIDS analogy. If you accepted the early 1980's view of the HIV virus, the film could mirror the scenario of a predominantly-male population slowly being killed-off by an entity it cannot stop. Of course the view that HIV is only a gay man's disease is totally inaccurate. However, the film did remind people of that old view of AIDS. "Bram Stoker's Dracula" of the same year featured a better AIDS analogy, in which the entity, vampirism, was sexual in nature and could kill anyone.

But Alien 3 is still a good film. Certainly better than the fourth episode.

Summary: Depressing, disapointing
Review: Alien3 is a very disappointing movie. For one, it has many unanswered questions: How did the eggs get aboard the Sulaco? Were there more than 2 face huggers? They attempt to show you this during mini-cuts during the credits, but it never gets explained. The majority of the movie is spent showing Ripley as she tries to find out what happened. She only finds out what we already know, which is very anti-climatic. The alien is interesting in this movie, but is isn't given much to do but kill "idiots" who are just asking to get killed, which is something that the first two movies avoided. Another disappointing aspect of this film is how everything she worked for in the first movie is destroyed in the first 10 minutes. Sure, it makes for a good drama, but Ripley is a symbol of being a survivor. The script and dialogue was pretty bad as well. It seemed, by midway through the film, that there was only one word that they could say and it got ridiculous after a while. The movie has it's good points: the set design, the "Christ" symbols, the continuity story of the "Company." However, this doesn't hide the fact that this is just a story about letting an Alien loose and have it kill off everyone. If I could be a Hollywood producer, I would write this one (and the 4th film) off as dreams she had in hypersleep and make a sequel to the 2nd film. I give this film a D+.

Summary: The 3rd movie to the sci-fi horror series has UK actors.
Review: David Fincher (The Game) Directs the 3rd movie in the ALIEN series "ALIEN 3" This movie contindos where ALIENS left off. On their way back home, Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and her companions crash land on a Planet. After an Alien on-board the Marine ship. Survco set a electric fire. Ripley is nursed back to health by a Kindhearted medical officer named Clemens, And her companions are dead. Ripley finds herself among Murderers, Child Molesters and Rapists, in a Isolated shut down Prison colony called FURY 161. But a Alien Predator is in the prison and it's killing off the Prisoners, this where Ripley has to battle it again. The music in this film is inbetween ALIEN and ALIENS, making the enviorment sound like a real Horror movie, The Alien effects with a new kind of ALIEN PREDATOR, is still good. This time it's hiding in the most terrifying place of all. I give Alien 3

9/10

Summary: Greatly underrated, but a few problems.
Review: Alien 3 is the darkest and most emotionally driven of the series. Yes, I loved Aliens (which is my favorite) and the relationships between Ripley and Newt & Ripley and Hicks(see the director's cut), but I feel very strongly for some of the characters as the movie progresses. Ripley feeling satisfied that the Aliens were destroyed only to find out that they are back and still controlling her life. Finding an adopted daughter and possibly romance from Hicks only to wake up with them dead.

The performances are great, Weaver's, Dutton's and especially Dance's. Visually, this one is the most striking and contains the most beautiful ending in this series. Still there are some problems. Everybody's favorite complaint is how the egg ended up close to the cryo tubes. All they needed was a shot during the opening credits of two eggs behind the dropship's landing struts. The CGI effects were usually unconvincing, but I can understand why they were need for the Alien to run across the ceiling. The film also suffers from the gross overuse of the f-word in the second half. Many people complain and wish to know why the Alien looks and moves differently. Simply put, it was born out of a dog. The writers were trying to establish that Aliens born from organisms other than humans will be different. When you think about it, the only Aliens we ever saw were born from humans. We never saw the Alien that was born from the "space jockey" in the first movie. I also wish that the movie would have gone into more depth with the prisoners' adoption of religion. Yes I am a knitpicker, but I think this is a great film and logical ending to the series. What am I hearing about a director's cut to this one. I know about the Special Edition of Aliens, but could someone say how I could get the director's cut of Alien 3?

Summary: a good follow up from Cameron's extroadinary sequel
Review: Alien 3 got bad reviews but for the wrong reasons, The movie was more about the story rather than alot of special effects, the effects it did have were fantastic, along with some really great camera work from the alien's point of view. This movie is a very good installment in the series.

Summary: Why does everybody say this is so rubbish?
Review: At first I wasn't too enthusiastic about seeing this. I'd read allot of reveiws[about ALIEN3]and 70% of them said it was rubbish. When I[finally]saw it I thought it was great. I think most people didn't like it because a) it killed off Hicks and Rebbeca[a.k.a Newt]and b) because after the action-packed ALIENS they wanted something on the same lines as that. This entry into the ALIEN saga was very dark and gothic, and what made the alien threat even more scary/threatening was the fact that the most hi-tech weapon they had was a fire axe. Sigourney Weaver should have won an oscar for her acting, while the British cast were excellent. The only thing that lets this down are the poor special effects, but apart from that this is one to watch. P.A.B 10
